  • Would explain the pasta :) White potatoes give me problems too. I've never noticed an issue with rice or sweet potatoes. Over the past several years I've had a lot of trouble swallowing and the doc thought I had something called Schatzki Ring (Schatzki Ring - a Schatzki Ring - not sure how you use it in a sentence - I…
  • Yeah. Me too. I've been lowish carbing with no grains for the past 8 months and my arthritis seems much better. Last month we went on vacation and I didn't follow the plan. My arthritis acted up the whole time we were gone. When I resumed my lowish carb/no grain plan the pain diminished significantly. Good luck!
  • Me too! I love a glass of wine or two at dinner.
  • Wonderful Blog. I wish you all the best. Debbie
  • Hi Kayla: Don't beat yourself up over it. I have a terrible time staying on track when I travel or visit relatives too. Most of my relatives are very supportive but some aren't. They aren't trying to sabotage my diet, just into partying hearty when we all get together. I know some people stay the course completely and some…
  • You look amazing. Good for you!
  • I use this almost every day: http://www.amazon.com/OXO-Good-Grips-Salad-Chopper/dp/B001AEH634/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top It doesn't really replace an unfriendly carb like pasta per se but it makes a great salad for an easy yummy low carb lunch. Only caveat is a chopped salad doesn't stay fresh as long as a torn salad. It…
  • DeadVim: I do eat fruit every day - small enough portions so I can stay under my carb limit though. Fruit is my go to carb because it's easy and because I like the sweet taste. That being said - after reading that article on Tuesday I switched the fruit out for starches - sweet potatoes, white rice and a tiny bit of…

  • Thanks DeadVim: Wow. That was a great article. I think it makes a lot of sense. I haven't really noticed a dry mouth but my eyes are really dry. The carbs I eat are almost exclusively from fruits and veggies rather than from starches. I think I'll try to cut back on the fruits and add a few starches and see what happens.…

  • Thanks everyone for your replies. I'm going to the doctor next week so I'll ask him about it. Now that I think about it though, I've been running around so much the past two weeks I haven't really paid attention to keeping hydrated. I'll have to up my water consumption and see if that helps. It really is driving me crazy…

  • Hi Lynzend: I check in most days - less frequently on the weekends. I've been here about seven months. Feel free to add me. Debbie
  • Good for you Pam. This is a great place for motivation. I'm doing moderate carb and no sugar too. Health reasons for me too. After years of being overweight with no major health problems - lots of bad things cropped up this year so I had to get serious. Good luck!
  • Jennifry:. Just like the storytelling in the movie. So cool.
  • Love mine. It helps keep me active throughout the day. Pre-fitbit - I focused more on getting in that one block of exercise per day. I think, at least for me, that being more active all day long has been much more effective than hitting the gym once a day. I've got a bum knee too - so I move pretty slow. Still seems to…
  • You look amazing. The exercise is really paying off because you look like you've lost way more than 23 pounds. Well done!
  • I do lowish carbs (about 80) and calories too. I'd love to be added. Debbie
  • Got to chime in even though everyone else has already convinced you. My husband and I consider our fitbits the best (exercise) equipment we ever invested in because we are constantly finding ways to fit more steps into our days. We do our walks but we have also become the folks who park the furthest away at the store, pace…
  • Csouto: You've done amazing and hopefully this will be a very short plateau. I'm going to have to stick to weight loss goals and some minor fitness goals for the first couple of weeks of June as my knee (hopefully) get's better. I'm hoping I can lose 5 pounds in June.
  • Weeks Two/Three was awful for me. I hurt my knee and couldn't do anything for a while although I feel quite a bit better today. Managed to do the Biggest Loser Walking DVD today (a mile anyways). It was very low impact. For the last couple of days May I'm going to have to stick to just water aerobics and some short slow…
  • Great job. You look wonderful. Debbie
  • Week One in the Books: Here's my Week one check in and my Week two goals: WEEK 1 IN MAY GOALS: Walk 24 miles - MANAGED 25 Swim laps once - DONE Log all my food - DONE 1 strength training session - NOT DONE - BOO I managed to lose 3 pounds but I'd gained two the week before so I guess I've netted a one pound weight loss.…
  • Hi TC1: Hope your stall is short lived. I seem to lose weight in fits and starts as well. This may be a complete figment of my imagination but the last couple of weeks I've started taking a half hour walk after dinner (when I can) and I feel like it has helped with the stalls. I'd already been exercising every day -…

  • Hi DrDonald: Love this site too. I've been here since January. It's been very motivating. My husband, my daughter and I got fit bits several months ago and they have been real game changers. We check with each other several times a day to make sure everyone is getting their steps and to crow if we're ahead. Not a Habs fan…
  • Mea culpa. I suppose after a lifetime of fudging internally (it wasn't such a bad day. I didn't eat the whole pizza besides there were veggies on it...and I didn't pick off all of them off) it's hard to come completely clean just because I started myfitnesspal. I didn't log the two times I went out of town. Told myself it…
  • I'd love to join as well. Is it too late? Debbie
  • I know everyone says eat your exercise points but I would definitely gain if I ate them all. For one thing, when I wear a heart monitor to exercise it shows that MFP is way too generous (with me anyways) as far as calories burned. I usually burn significantly less than MFP says I'm burning. I'm older and not in great shape…
  • I'm in for May. Here's my goals: For the month I'd like to lose 6 pounds. I'd like to walk 24 miles a week. Here's my first week goals: WEEK 1 IN MAY: Walk 24 miles Swim laps once Log all my food 1 strength training session WEEK 2 IN MAY: WEEK 3 IN MAY: WEEK 4 IN MAY:
  • Hi all: Didn't meet two of my three goals but there's no use crying over it. I lost 4 1/2 pounds rather than 6. Would have made that goal but had a bad last week and gained two pounds. Boo. Still - hurrah for 4.5 pounds less of me. Walked more than 75 miles so that was good. Didn't get all my exercise classes in - out of…
  • Have you tried some of Rocco Dispirito's recipes from Now Eat This? You can get a lot of them on line. He isn't low carb per se but he has several low carb recipes. I've used several of his lower carb recipes or cut some of the carbs in his other recipes. I love his Jamacian jerk chicken with cauliflower (net carbs 13).…
