I think it just depends on whether or not those activities are part of a persons everyday routine. For instance, if I shovel after a big snowstorm, I'm burning more calories than I do in my day to day life so I will log it. If I am cleaning the house like I normally would, I would not log it. It's easy to get discouraged but it sounds like you are still making awesome progress like making food changes and exercising. Keep going, the changes will catch up :)

Calories don't dictate whether or not a meal is healthy. Those chickpeas are full of calories but also full of fiber and other valuable nutrients. You absolutly can go to Mcdonalds and eat crap, but those are empty calories and you will feel like crap afterward.
