  • Newbie here. Bumping this great thread and thinking about September. I used MFP a couple of years ago to lose a chunk of weight, but started working full time at a foodie type office about a year ago. I try to bring my lunch and stay strong but it is so very hard to eat clean when there is a constant flow of treats…
  • It looks like you joined recently. Keep at it...I encourage you to experiment with a variety of healthy foods--lean proteins, veggies and fruit, no white foods, substitute whole grains-- so you don't get bored. It took me about a year to reach my goal weight (23 pounds on MFP and about 30 before that.) I found that when I…
  • I'm sorry you've had rude and negative comments. I would hope that we could have discussions on the boards, not dismissive zingers. "Forks over Knives" is a very interesting documentary and it did impact the way I eat. I watched it at the same time that I read "anti-cancer" and was struck by how many of the same…
  • Great idea! I started out walking and found that I had more and more energy, which then turned into additional types of exercise...now I can't go without. Gyms are nice, but not necessary. Find something you enjoy. Go at lunch if you can't find other times. Good luck!
  • I'm getting ready to go out in my Adidas right now; they have been great. Husband enjoys asic. Key: try them on!!! Everyone's feet are different and there is a shoe just right for you.
  • Do you put any liquid in the bottom of the slow cooker?
  • Oh, and Dr. Servan-Shreiber said that you should drink a couple cups a day, brew it for 10 minutes and drink within a couple of hours for the best results.

  • Here is an excellent summary of the benefits of green tea: http://www.webmd.com/food-recipes/features/health-benefits-of-green-tea Green tea fights cancer, improves circulatory function and may burn fat. The highest concentrations of its unique antioxidant is in Japanese green tea. I started with Jasmine and fruit blends…

  • We started grinding our own at the grocery store this year and now we can't eat anything else. Cheaper too.
  • I forgot to order no dressing on my Southwest salad wrap at Togos this week. Turned 340 calories into 700+
  • Thank you I am trying these! I did the recipe and the entire thing (substituting multigrain breadcrumbs for me) is 335 calories...so 28 calories each. What a great value.
  • Um, yes, everyone else is right, you can go do something active if you have the time! I guess I just have food on the brain right now!
  • Imagine Organic "Creamy" Tomato Soup about 90 calories. 2 cups of romaine hearts about 30 calories drews sugar free peppercorn and garlic dressing 70 calories Small handful of chopped bell peppers, radish, green onion, etc. for about 15 calories...woops over by 5 :-) If you need more you can minimize going over by choosing…
  • Bump and thank you!
  • Hi, if you like to grill try throwing veggies on the grill instead of steaks! We bbq thick sliced sweet potatoes, zucchini, portabello mushrooms and of course, corn (but cut in rounds, bbq'd in foil with lime juice and chili powder instead of butter) serve with brown rice or quinoa and black beans.
  • Clearly you are happy with your diet, and I'm not here to argue the lifestyle choices we make. Personally I found that cutting sugar led to a need for less sugar, that cutting fats and processed foods made them seem gross when I did eat them and that I feel lighter and healthier overall on a mostly veg diet. I don't think…
  • Whoops. I'm clearly a big fail at figuring out how to quote and comment. I would like to add to the discussion though...AeolianHarp I would agree with you that stress factors into health in a big way but I do believe there is plenty of research proving that the diets our cattle are fed have reduced Omega 3, and increased…
  • News report this morning (5/16) links refined sugar to memory loss and cognition problems. Consuming Omega 3s mitigates the effect somewhat.
  • People are so different...I think you'll know when you get there. I'm 5'3", pretty big boned, starting at 175 with a goal weight of 145. Then I changed it to 135. Then 125. I am still in the middle of my healthy BMI range, and think I am getting very close...I will probably stop at 120-125...so why don't you get to a…
  • CW 134.4 GW: 125 4/1 - 134.4 4/8 - 133.2 4/15-132 - 2.4 pounds off at the halfway mark... 4/22 -131.4 a measly .6 this week, but at least it's in the right direction! 4/30
  • Hi Eagin. I'm a bc survivor. I've lost 43 pounds since dx, 13 of them here on MFP. I strongly urge you to pick up "anticancer: a new way of life" by Servan Schreiber MD, PhD, who talks about diet and health for cancer survivors. I would also suggest that you watch the documentary "Forks over Knives" which is available for…

  • My first challenge. Including MFP I have lost 41 pounds so far, very slowly. I'm here because I'm really afraid of the "final 10" -- everyone tells me they are the hardest. My moment: Accidentally reached for my 15 year old daughter's jacket for my walk and it fit. (OK, it fit snugly :-)) CW 134.4 GW: 125 4/1 - 134.4 4/8…
  • Mella, what "gray areas" are you hearing about stevia? I use it and would be very interested in knowing!
  • Neanderthin, or anyone who knows: Doesn't fructose absorb differently than refined sugar? My understanding is that the nature of fructose combined with the fiber of the fruit you are eating slows it's absorption and lowers its GI rating. Before you bash me about Glycemic Index again I will share that yes, it is important…
  • So right neanderthin, but I think you know where I was going. Stevia is derived from a plant (like sugar) but unlike sugar it has a very low glycemic index-zero I believe. Forgive my lack of precision.
  • Stevia is not a chemical. I haven't heard anything "bad" about it and it tastes good. (Please post if you have heard differently.) Find an organic brand that is minimally processed and doesn't use fillers. Sugar and other high glycemic foods are bad for you. Here is a brief article summarizing some of the things I think…
