  • I think it's sad and partly due to our addiction to technology. A few minutes ago I looked at a relative's photos, on facebook, of her grandson's 5th birthday party. The boy is obese. His gifts were all electronic.. no balls or other toys that would involve any type of exercise, let alone moving. There are pics of him…
  • Peri-menopause is before your periods stop, and it's hell as you'll find out someday. Menopause is when it's over.
  • I never have 'cheat' days, because I'm not on a diet. I do however, make room in my diary for treats once in a while so I don't feel deprived and feel like I'm on a DIET. When I first started MFP, I'd have a blizzard once a week, usually on a Friday after a good day of working out and it's worth it. I still do that once in…
  • Good luck with it. Peri-menopause is even worse.
  • I know this is an old thread, but I'll throw in my 2 cents. I always thought I had cravings until I had a hysterectomy, keeping my ovaries intact, with all the hormones. No more TOM and no more cravings, probably because I didn't know when it would be happening. No more excuses. I did however, still feel like killing…
  • That's gross, but my opinion. I'd say it depends on if your chicken calories include the skin. That's where most of the fat is.
  • How did your total cholesterol change if your HDL and LDL are the same? And what were those numbers and your ratio? Just curious.
  • I'm not in my 20's or 30's, but I'm 51 and I'm in better shape, but not as thin as I was in my 20's. I've been told that I look much younger than I am and that's cool. I'm happier, stronger physically, set financially, my kids are grown, I don't have to work and I do what I want, when I want. Life gets better as you age.…
  • Maybe they can explain how I lost 40lbs by walking 3.8 miles per day for 4 months??
  • The only big clothes I kept are my robe, because it ties, its soft, comfy and I can't find another one like it in a smaller size. It still looks crazy big on me but oh well. I also kept a few coats that I use for layering now, because they are big. And, I kept one pair of my 'big' jeans to remind me just how big I was, so…
  • I use a Polar FT4 heart rate monitor and when it's hot out, I burn nearly twice the calories, so I'd say yes! It's obviously harder to work out when the temperatures are up. If anyone disputes this, come to central IL in August! Also, when I'm sweating like crazy, it's because my pulse is in the higher range, therefore…
  • My waist could be smaller, but I do have a 'nice', rounded butt shape, if that makes sense. lol I love how Levis 505 (I think) bootcut jeans fit me, They fit my shape perfectly, but I think if my waist gets smaller, I'll have to alter them. I refuse to give up the shape of my butt in them. :)
  • You can, but it's a LOT harder and different outside. I can do 10k on my treadmill easily, ran 5k outside Saturday, I was miserable and I'm very sore. Here are a few things I noticed... Running against the wind made it a LOT harder. I don't think there is anything you can do to prepare for that. I tend to run faster…
  • I count when I run, walk, jog, bike, swim, etc., but only when I'm alone. Sometimes I want to slap myself and say STOP IT! I just can't help it. I count steps jogged, pedals turned, tiles on the floor, stairs, cars, whatever is around. Sadly, I know that 20 right legged, pedals on my bike equals 1 tenth of a mile. The…
  • I drink at least 2 cups each morning and have lost 40lbs. I used to add Splenda and 30 cal per T. creamer to it. Now I add fat free half and half with my own vanilla bean seeds added to it. 10 cals per tablespoon.
  • See a nutritionist. Don't diet. If you eat the right foods, you won't even feel hungry! Make sure you pick at least one day per week to have a treat so you don't feel deprived (like you're on a DIET), and then binge because you're craving crap. Prepare all of your food on one day of the week, like grilled chicken breast,…
  • I lost 3 pounds off mine. After walking into a surgeons office, 500 stitches later, they are perfect. lol Honestly though, I have no regrets. I was in agony because they were so big, I couldn't jog, I couldn't stop getting rashes under them, bra straps had made dents in my shoulders and I looked ridiculous because I'm…
  • As much as I love bacon, steak, etc., I can't stand the texture of fat, in the form of meat fat, in my mouth. Yuck. That is one reason why I choose leaner meats. Also, after attending the autopsy of a person who died from cardiovascular disease, I had to cut into the arteries and the plaque that had built up felt and even…
  • Thanks! Now I want a cream filled, frosted donut with bacon on top. If I binge, I'll blame you!
  • Good for you! A lot of people don't realize that people like Beyoncé probably have personal chefs, 24/7 access to a personal trainer, and probably all day to work out. Being fit and looking good is their job, and if we spent 8-10 hours a day working on it, having plastic surgery, then having our pics photoshopped, we would…
  • Not worried at all. I'm not on a diet. It's one day and if there are leftovers that aren't 'healthy' enough to stay at my house, they will find a new home or go in the trash.
  • The rest of my fat clothes. Someone out there will wear them. lol
  • I had a small stroke! I was in total shock, but thank God I recovered 100%. Right after I had the stroke, my older sister (53), had 3 strokes and became permanently disabled. A few months later @179lbs and 50 years old, my neurologist told me that I had a blood clotting disorder that would also add to my stroke risk. My…
  • Higher weight + higher intensity ='s higher calorie burn
  • I used to like goats until Chelsea (4-H project gone bad), kept jumping on my back whenever I tried to mend the fence. Baaaad goat!
  • Running With Pitbulls
  • I make room in my cals for treats weekly, usually on Friday or some event or birthday party we have to attend. If I didn't, I'd feel like I'm on a diet and I'm not! It's all about moderation, not starving yourself and setting yourself up for a binge.
  • I make my own in the summer. I use 2% milk or fat free greek yogurt, Splenda , whatever fruit, nuts and/or vanilla beans, chocolate, etc. That way, I know what's in it and it's delicious! With fresh fruit, sometimes I don't even add the sweetener.
  • Kale Big Mac A large order of fries, anywhere. Seaweed 'crackers' Black truffles Anything made by 'Little Debbie' Okra Tripe Chitlins (sp) pig intestines, I think (ack) Quiche Powdered protein shakes Buffalo, Wild boar, goat, ostrich, elk or moose A Shamrock shake Nutella Yeah, this probably aren't usual foods, but I added…
  • I'm a bit taller at 5'3", but I started at 179lbs, looking like I could be rolled down the sidewalk, and now I'm down 40lbs and I feel great. I still have 15 or 20 to lose, depending on how I look. I mainly want to be stronger and look healthy, not emaciated. Oh and I'm 51 years old.
