thyroid disease needs close follow up at first. Do not be fearful of returning to your doctor. Yes, if you have a question then call her/him. When I was having my thyroid adjusted after surgery my doc was seeing me every 4 weeks and checking my blood levels. Thyroids are tricky, don't worry, this could take a year to get…

Synthroid 88 mcg. once a day. Cytomel 5 mg. in A.M. and 2 1/2 mg at 1P.M. This works great and I don't take 2-3 hour naps anymore. I also only take brand name meds as the endocrinologist said that some of the generic doses are not accurate.
-
Yes! see an endocrinologist. T 3 replacement has done wonders for me in addition to the synthroid. Your g.p. knows little about T 3 meds and that is obvious/scarey.
-
I like that your doc said to come back in one month and not longer. Yes, this can change quickly.
-
You probably need a specialist...this is way above your GP's ability. I agree with other posts that you need t 3 replacement. In the U.S. is is cytomel. My doctor only uses brand name synthroid as the levothyroxine can have a variation in dose. I strongly discourage you from increasing meds on your own as you can really…

I take synthroid (t-4) and cytomel (t-3). Both brand names as my doctor stated that the generic have some variation. Some people change to armor, but again the dose is not consistent and I am very sensitive. Good luck!

I try and eat a balanced, good, tasty food plan. Not over eating, the right portion. Something I can live with forever. I avoid fad, and quick 'diet' plans. They never work for me, but good luck to you.

Yes, I became hyper after 40 years of being hypo. It depends on what caused this to happen. In my case it was multi nodular toxic goiter and the little nodes got bigger and got carried away producing thyroid hormones.
-
I was hypo for 40 years, then hyper and now hypo again after 1/2 of thyroid removed. Synthroid(t 4) is good (I do not take generic) and also cytomel (this replaces t 3 and gives you energy). I take cytomel in A.M. and about lunch time otherwise I nap for a few hours in the afternoon. I suggest you see an endocrinologist as…

I have a great doctor who can diagnosis amazingly well. She has found 3 diseases that I did not know I had. What you need is a good doc who can figure out what disease or diseases are causing your health problems. If your doctor can not diagnosis I would search for another one who has that skill, unfortunately they are…

cytomel added to the regime will replace T3. I suggest you talk to your doc about adding it and reducing your levo dose. I found that when I take cytomel in the A.M. and then about 1 P.M. I have a lot more energy, feel better and do not take two hour naps in the afternoon.
-
I agree with everyone, get a 2nd opinion. My doc (I fired one before her) started my in synthroid (brand not generic) and when I was stable reduced the dose and added cytomel (for T3). I take cytomel twice a day and no longer take 2 hour naps! She is an endocrinologist. GP's NEVER know how to deal with thyroid issues, even…
-
my doc had me split my cytomel, the synthroid stayed the same. I had the same experience as you. Great isn't it! My only problem is remembering to take the middle of the day dose.
-
don't forget the cytomel for the T3. If I don't take it twice a day I sleep for 2 hours in the afternoon. I am just hypo after surgery, so different disease.

made me sick as a dog. be careful.

beyond words...WOW

I had 1/2 of my thyroid out as I am allergic to iodine and could not have radioactive treatment. Best thing I ever did! glad I did not go radio active. I used to be hungry all of the time and now I am no longer am hungry all of the time. (from my multi nodular toxic goiter). I am much more relaxed. There was no pain post…

I'm sorry you are having such trouble. My doctor put me on cytomil AFTER my thyroid levels were normal to alleviate some of my symptoms, which it did. She lowered the synthroid when she added cytomil. She was willing to try armor, but related that the dosage can vary with each bottle and I decided against trying. Keep…

I had a lot of hair loss with my anti thyroid meds and also some when I was hyper thyroid. I asked my dermatologist what I could do and he said "rogain for men" would help. I looked at all of the side effects and decided to go with less hair. I'm not happy, but at least is covers my head, just not as thick as when I was…

How do you feel? That may say more then the labs. Getting the dose correct is not easy. I love my cytomel. Hope it works for you too.

I just use very little salt when cooking. I'm careful with soy sauce and use very little of that also. Eating out can be a problem as some places use way too much salt in their cooking. I just don't go back to the ones that use too much salt. My hypertension is caused by another chronic disease. I don't like to cook so I…

I had surgery to remove 1/2 of my thyroid. I am not hungry all of the time! I feel great. My doctor adjusted synthroid(once a day) and then added cytomel (twice a day). I am loosing weight! Yes, it is possible to loose weight once the medications are adjusted. I strongly encourage you to discuss with the doctor the use of…

I have trouble when I am ill, which I have been in Oct., Nov. and Dec of this year. Yuck. I have another disease that prevents me from taking vitamin D and from exercising a lot. Since I added cytomel twice a day to my meds (already on synthroid) I have been feeling very good. I don't have snow and it does not get hot…
-
I take mine in the morning and then wait an hour to eat. I tried taking the meds at night and found it difficult to go to sleep which is very unusual for me.
-
You can call the doctor and see if he/she feels you need to be seen. It does not sound like an emergency, but if you have concerns you certainly should call and let the doctor decide if you need to be seen .
-
Make sure your doctor (doctors) have ruled out other diseases. I had some of the same symptoms and turned out I have an autoimmune disease that took the doctor (not too sharp) about 2 years to find. Everything is not the thyroid and other diseases take a skilled doctor (which I now have after firing 3-4 doctors) to find…

my doctor added cytomel to synthroid (brand name not generic). What a difference! I have energy. I take one in the A.M. and 1/2 at about 1-2 P.M. The natural one has a variable dose and I was not willing to risk it as I am very sensitive to all meds. Good luck! Sounds as if you need to try a different doctor.
-
Call your doc if he forgets to call you! Feel better!

Wait and see what your test results show. I have thought I had one problem and insisted to my doctor and she just poo pooed me and tested for something else and low and behold I had a different disease altogether(I also have a thyroid problem). Your doctor should be trying to figure out if you have something else wrong…
