  • I had surgery as I am allergic to iodine. The surgery is VERY tricky and not just anyone can do it correctly. My Dr. N. Duh of UCSan Francisco said he NEVER removes the whole thyroid, just 1/2 at a time. I have half of a thyroid and still some of my own thyroid function. Replacement is not as good as your own production of…
  • I did take ginger peach tea. This helped me not eat more...nausea...well possibly it will help if I drink rather then eat!
  • I lost hair when I was on anti thyroid meds. until I had 1/2 of the thyroid removed. Treating T3 AND T4 stabilized it. On Synthroid (brand name) and cytomel (brand name.) Brand name in this instance apparently is a better product
  • I have a disease that causes it. Wish tea would help. Acupuncture helps a bit.
  • Make sure she gets T4 AND T3 replacement. Be patient with her, she will be on an emotional roller coaster possibly. Also, her energy may be low until her medications are adjusted correctly and can take a long time (3months at least if not a lot more). I only have 1/2 of a thyroid and get tested every 6 months as it can…
  • I gained 6 1/2 lbs back in about 3 weeks. My dog is old and dying, my son lost his job again. I'm eating and out of control. Suggestions?
  • Wow, sorry to hear that. The cytomel keeps me awake and is wonderful. The doctor gave me a choice of reducing synthroid or cytomel and I said less synthroid please. Works great! You are tired because you need cytomel. try and find someone who really knows how to treat this, I hate to hear you are getting such poor care.…
  • I'm not sure what blood tests you are having. My endocrinologist always orders a T4, T3 and a tsh. I'm on cytomel plus synthroid. The cytomel gives me energy, otherwise I'm exhausted.(Synthroid in A.M. and cytomel in A.M. and about 1 P.M.) Possibly you need a different mix of medication. I'm not sure what you have in the…
  • I am hypo and would be happy to add a friend. I have 1/2 of a thyroid and numerous other health problems that also cause me to struggle with weight loss.
  • tender cuts of meat, ground meat, tofu, fish and shellfish, smooth peanut butter, eggs, white breads, crackers(ritz original has no fiber), cereals without whole grains, tender, well-cooked fresh or canned vegetables with no seeds, stems or skins, white potatoes without skins. There's more. I got this from the internet.…
  • I also have sarcoidosis, lucky, no O2
  • rather then experimenting I suggest you add cytomel (T3 replacement) if you are not on it. Mess with your thyroid and BIG trouble. It effects emotions, moods, thinking everything. You can even try a new doctor who will listen to you. I have changed doctors and finally found one I really like. She listens to me and adjusts…
  • I take synthroid and cytomel in the A.M. and more cytomel at 1 P.M. I found if I take it at night I am awake forever. I am very sensitive to medication, so you may not have this problem. I do wait an hour after taking my meds in the A.M.
  • It may not be your thyroid. Could be another health problem such as Reynoids syndrome(spelling?) or just the new you. I also have Nodules on my thyroid, problem is they can start producing or shut down. I had 1/2 taken out as they got carried away and I became hyperthyroid suddenly. I'm now hypo. I test every 6 months in…
  • No, but I take brand name synthroid as my doctor feels that levo is not as good a product. I also take cytomel to replace T4. Synthroid is T3.

  • I also have constant pain and have been using acupuncture to help. I combine Eastern and Western medicine and use less Motrin and tylenol and no narcotics. This is not related to my thyroid. P.T. is also helpful. I bought a great bed, hand made, special order and that helps also (not great for the budget). Just keep going,…
  • I also had a swing from hypo to hyper thyroid. I had nodules that decided to start producing. I tried anti thyroid meds., not much help and lost a lot of hair. I am allergic to iodine so decided to have surgery. My surgeon (one of the world's best and an authority on surgery) said that he only takes out half at a time as…
  • I would consult with another endocrinologist for a 2nd opinion if you were not happy with the first one. I would NOT take any thyroid medicine that an internist or GP suggests when it comes to the thyroid. They think they know what they are doing, but THEY DON'T. I have had some not so good experience. Thyroids are very…
  • Over thinking this thing. Yes, should be on an empty stomach and about the same time, but doesn't always happen that way. Do the best you can, take the medicine sometime in the morning if you can. You need a plan that works for you. Sounds as if you are really trying to change! This is exciting, keep up the good work!
  • I take cytomel in A.M. and then again about 1 P.M. Other wise I sleep away the afternoon and drag around. It works wonders. Weight loss, well I'm not sure it made a great difference, but I have not gained and I have lost a few pounds, but not a lot. I feel better emotionally with the T3 and T4 being replaced. When I feel…
  • My doctor prefers synthroid brand and not the generic (levothyroxine). I also started cytomel which makes me feel much better. Cytomel. T3 and T4 levels need to be checked. If you are going to a G.P. ask for a referral to an endocrinologist. G.P. can not handle thyroid correctly, no matter how much they assure you that…
  • Wonderful! Your hard work paid off!
  • I have been hyper and hypo both! Lucky me. I tried the anti thyroid meds and my hair fell out and did not work too well. I thought about radio active iodine to kill my thyroid, but am allergic to iodine, and really didn't want to kill the whole thing. I opted for removal of 1/2 of my thyroid by a very, very skilled surgeon…
  • Me too. Gained weight, but that was years ago for me. It is worth the fight.....Take care of yourself and lets loose weight!
  • I encourage you to see a thyroid specialist. Internists think they can handle thyroid problems....They can not! What is the doctor doing? Nothing? You have a problem and need a referral to someone who can explain options to you.
  • I take 5mg. cytomel in A.M. and 2 1/2 mg at about 1 P.M. It keeps me going. Makes a big difference with energy---which I have very little of due to another disease. I still frequently nap in the afternoon. I LOVE my cytomel.
  • Without cytomel (T4 replacement) I am much more tired. My doc added it to my synthroid and I take it in the A.M. and at 1 P.M. She figured out the dose with some math that I have no idea of how it works...she does, and that's why she gets paid the big bucks for being an informed endocrinologist.! Yes, the fatigue can be…
  • Great! I saw my x at my son's wedding. I ignored him and ate just the right amount. We have power over our eating! Yes! Great job!
  • I have always found that an internist can NOT regulate my thyroid problems. You need contact your doctor and be referred to a specialist who can adjust your dose of meds and and what meds to take. I agree that a thyroid scan and /or ultrasound is also needed and more tests to find out why you are hypothyroid (if you really…
