  • Good to know! I tend to try and have as loose a grip as possible because it pinches my palms otherwise!
  • I loved the quote on Neghar's site: if your swings look dirty, you're doing it right!
  • I remember being horrified when my butt started to shrink! I was told that squats, lunges, and kettlebell swings would be good for keeping it big and glorious.
  • I hear you! I fell off the wagon and am trying to get both legs swung back up onto the wagon! Kind of gripping on with my claws, maybe? Anyway, I gained most of the weight back that i lost last year but want to keep working at it. not ready to give up yet. I'm going to add you as a friend!
  • Wow, no one ever answered you? I think on race day, you usually do a bit better because of the excitement and energy of the crowd, plus, I bet if you have only been walking, you'll throw in a tiny bit of running on race day... you won't be able to help yourself! By the way, how is the training going?
  • I like tuna (canned or sushi grade, seared) on top of a salad. With the canned tuna, I find if I also have some cottage cheese on top of a leafy green/ vegetable salad, I hardly need any dressing at all.
  • OMG, you all are making me very happy I don't have kids!
  • And next, a favorite salad recipe. I saw it on the Etsy forums years ago, printed it out, and haven't looked back since. Quinoa Salad All ingredients are more or less "to taste". Also, nothing is stopping you from mixing it up a little - want more protein? Toss in some chicken! Prefer dried cranberries to raisins? Dooo…
  • I'll start with a strawberry dessert recipe. It's quick and very tasty. Crumble some graham crackers into a bowl, scoop some lemon yogurt on top, then slice strawberries on top of that. BOOM, YOU'RE DONE. It's so super fast and is really, really delicious.
  • I didn't join until today, but I do recall weighing myself last week and seeing 200. Today I am 199.
  • Instead, you could report how much your weight has changed since your last weigh in. I also don't think weighing in is mandatory; it's a tool for us to use along the way. I think reporting a change in weight does exactly the same thing as reporting your actual weight, IMO.
  • I"m late to join, but I don't think I was "ready" to join on the first!!! This morning, I was thinking to myself, "I really need to make a commitment to start logging again soon." I lost 18 pounds last spring, then gained all but a few pounds back. I"m not ready to give up on myself yet, though! So, I realized, I packed a…
  • From what I've read in previous threads, some women's breast size goes down, and sometimes it doesn't change at all. It really varies from person to person. The plus is that if the rest of you is slimmer and your tummy sticks out less, it will increase how big your breasts look!
  • I'm sorry to hear that you are going through a tough time right now... it can be especially hard around the holidays. I agree with others who suggest hiding the scale. Make it difficult to get to - pack it away somewhere annoying! I have a possible suggestion with regards to the exercise. now, I might not be one to talk,…
  • For some reason, when I saw "ninerbuff", it reminded me of Nannerpuss. You are welcome. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lIN1sHwuOQE
  • Aggh, I only have two months! However, even if I might not be at my final goal by 40, I could make some definite improvements by then. I am trying to claw my way back onto the wagon, so to speak. If you start a group page, let us know so we can all pile on!
  • I made turkey chili from my 300+ slow cooker recipes book. I also made this turkey enchilada verde soup from the internet - it was delicious! http://homesicktexan.blogspot.com/2012/11/turkey-enchilada-verde-soup_19.html I only made a 12 pound bird (the day before Thanksgiving and saved it all for myself before going to my…
  • Some excellent ideas in here! Like many others, I put it on top of any given salad...
  • I love doing fish in a packet! Google it for tons of recipe ideas. Basically, you take parchment paper, put some veggies, some fish, and a little seasoning in there, fold it into a packet, and pop it into the oven. All the flavors meld together nicely, and the fish is moist and tender. You don't need to add oil or…
  • SON OF A.... I have a small frame. CURSES! (un)fortunately, this confirms my feeling that even at 5'11" and 150 (many years ago), I still had an inch to pinch. I"m currently around 190 and feel very fat and bloaty and not healthy. However, I am going to pretend that I have a medium frame. SO THERE! ;-)
  • I have a couple of awesomely warm winter coats from LL Bean. I have this one in brown: http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/42359?feat=610-GN1&page=ultrawarm-coat-long and this one in purple orchid: http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/70420?feat=610-GN1&page=mountain-laurel-down-jacket I got them on clearance last February for…
  • I find I go through ups and downs. Sometimes, it feels like it takes forever, and sometimes, I just don't mind. I have entered dozens of recipes, and I find I sometimes need to psych myself up for the process! I like to cook new recipes all the time, so continuously need to keep adding them to MFP. Overall, though, I'm…
  • This morning: 1/2 cup Trader Joe's coconut milk (the drinkable kind, not the kind in the can) 1/2 cup coconut water 1/2 cup guava nectar 1 scoop flavorless protein powder 1 teaspoon chia seeds 1 frozen banana 1 cup frozen mango 1 cup spinach I totally want to try some of the others that people have posted!
  • Yesterday, I came back to MFP after a bit of a hiatus. I'm glad I'm back, and I'm not allowing myself to get upset about the pounds I gained while I was away.
  • my eyes are watering from those sour grapes! I've dated guys a little shorter, but only ever dated someone A LOT shorter in middle school. Back then, I didn't have much of a choice - I had had my growth spurt, but most of the boys had not! for me, I guess it's a bit of an insecurity thing - it drives me crazy to…
  • Although I'm probably not nearly as exhausted as you are, I have the tired and home alone thing nailed. I am a school social worker, and find that my eating habits when I'm home alone all day can be poor. Here's what I do: 1. never have yummy snack foods in the house. No chips, cookies, desserts, etc. Your body does not…
  • Working in a school can make healthy eating difficult... the teacher's room always seems to have goodies out to share, sometimes you have to gobble your lunch at your desk, and drinking all the water you're supposed to would mean you'd have to pee your pants - not enough time to run to the bathroom when there are kids in…
  • Great question! I think if I lived where you do, I'd do more outdoor cardio! Instead, I live in the downtown of a somewhat rough-and-tumble New England mill town. For a while, I deluded myself that going out for a walk during daylight was safe, until a woman was raped at 10 AM on the same route that I take. I still go for…
  • Ugh, it was so long ago that I hardly remember! However, I do remember my legs just not wanting to work for the first few hundred yards of the run, but they'd always loosen up after a bit. I also remember feeling very disoriented after coming out of the water and having to run to transition! As an aside, practicing your…
