My last 5k I completed the race at 29:48. I was sore for days. Since then I have been slowing my pace to a 15:00 mile due to the fact that I can burn fat at that pace which is needed so I can lose weight before my knees, hips and ankles give way to my excessive weight.

Get new shoes often. I walked for almost a year to begin with being 320 lbs. I got my legs and feet in shape that way. Increase your mileage slowly. Don't just run distance. Run both long distances slowly and short distances quickly. Warm up and adopt a stretching regimen. Eat right, and not just at a deficit all the time.…

Just had my 20th anniversary on the 5th. Marriage is the single greatest adventure in this life. Friends come and go, kids grow up and move out but waking up next to the person you love more than life itself never grows old. Its no fairy tale, especially living with me, but being on the rollercoaster of single, dating, on…

Morbidly obese so I had to start walking for about a year to toughen up my feet and legs. Learned along the way that shoes mean almost everything after running too long on my old shoes especially being so overweight. If you knees start constantly hurting it is time to switch them out. When you first start, walk for about…

Why not go through the cycle of bulk and cut instead of debating the possibility of finding and maintaining the fine line between bulking and fat burning. It is a proven method with thousands of success stories. Even if you did find the magical zone of fat burning while bulking the rate of success would most likely by far…

Let us strike up this conversation a year from now when those who are only doing cardio and eating at a deficit continue increasing their muscle gain and have 20" calves, ripped abs like you see on those muscle builder magazines, a 75" chest and 22" biceps. Arguing is useless in the face of anecdotal evidence when hard,…

I would recommend watching Dr. Who and the Daleks staring Peter Cushing. That is one, if not the first, introduction to the Daleks and it is in Color even though it is from the 50's. Plus Peter Cushing rocks in whatever he plays. Then jump to Tom Baker episodes. Sure you will miss the intro to the cybermen and a bunch of…

Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) is what you routinely do on a daily basis. It is what you normally burn. If you shop, pick up clothes off the floor, clean or do anything that you would call routine then I find it easier to move my level of fitness with MFP from Sedentary to one of the higher levels rather than run…

Losing fat is always disproportionate. It is always taken from the face and extremities first and then from the midsection last. Typically guys lose their gut last and gals lose their hips last. I am sure it was some genius survival adaptation we picked up as humans along the way to help us survive running away from…

Somewhat a novice at weightlifting but know a little bit about running. I lift 1-2 days per week in an effort to not only strengthen but to avoid running injuries. Runners who lift are less likely to get injured from running. I run long Saturday, speed run 1-2 miles on Wednesday and HIIT/Sprint on Thursdays. If you are…

She should be released.....in the neighborhood of the boyfriend's friends and family. And, oh by the way, the same time she is released, there is a buy one get 22 doughnuts free sale across town.

Plateau for the last year. Still changing things up. Meticulous on calculating calories. Lift one day per week, Hiit one day per week and try to jog one day per week. Fat is going down but 280 is still an unhealthy weight even at 6'5" tall. Thanks for the motivation.

I haven't lost any weight for about a year. I am pegged out at around 37 lbs lost. But...I have dropped several fat percentages within the last year. It seems to be a trend for some of us to plateau at 40 lbs and the scale not move for some time.

When I did a pile of cardio I was hungry. When I lift weights for some reason I don't get as hungry. Maybe try to lift at least one or two of your days per week in stead of cardio 6 days a week and see if that helps. Make sure you are eating enough. I eat 2600 calories but I am an overweight guy. My wife is a thin gal who…

I eat hash browns weekly. Love 'em. Especially mixed with scrambled eggs and pork sausage. Yum. Of course I eat in moderation and make sure I eat them on a work out day.

On the STP (same ten pounds) as last year but the fat keeps melting off as I lift weights. I still have 80 lbs to lose but I just fit into my college jeans last friday. Weight? Not as important to me as looking good and feeling good.

I take naps every weekday at work. If they didn't want me to sleep at work than they wouldn't force me to take an hour for lunch in a room without windows. My neighbors at work in adjacent offices have also started taking naps after seeing how rested and relaxed I am after my lunch break.

Started out 6'5" 320. Now at 278. Jog one day per week to not kill my knees, lift weights 2 days per week and run stations for strength training. Did my first mud run last December. It was awesome but grueling. 3 miles seemed like 5. I ear somewhere around 2500 calories per day. More than anything, be patient. If I lose a…

I think we are redefining standards. Grandma and grandpa met, courted and were married for over 50 years. They didn't live together, date for years or in large part didn't get forced into a shotgun marriages. That was standards then. We don't have those kinds of standards today and look what it has done to the family.

Weight loss is easy for some but not others. I am losing fat like a mo fo but my weight is staying for the most part put. Lift weights 2-3 days per week, one day of cardio and the fat melts away but my weight hasn't significantly dropped over the last 5 months. Also, my muscles are way bigger than 5 months ago. Congrats on…

Met in September 1993, proposed late October or early November, happily married for 19+ years since March 1994 and every day of marriage gets better and better. If you find the right one it is like Mario Puzo's 'lightning bolt'. Why wait.

I have 5 boys. Wear the 2nd and you won't have to mention anything about the cell phone.

You eat more to lose fat.

Like Optimum but thinking on switching to Carnivor. Numbers all except for price are better. Anyone tried carnivor?

Weight is like a watched pot. It won't drop if you weigh all the time. Stop weighing yourself and start working on fat loss and on e day you will step back on the scale and viola! you will have lost another 5.

at 1200-1500 I went every 3 days if I was lucky. I was in starvation mode, I was lightheaded but dropping weight like crazy until I hit a plateau. Then I went up to 2400-2600 calories and now I average 1-2 every day. Watch your liquid intake and eat your fiber.

I think everyone should eat TDEE and exercise off their 20% deficit in calories. Sorry I am just seeing a good thread descend into silly conflict and thought I would throw in my 2 cents.

The scale is the biggest threat to make you want to quit than anything else. I have weighed around 280 for the past year. I started lifting weights and even though my weight is the same I probably have less body fat than when I last weighed 245. I am going to have to go clothes shopping soon (I hate shopping) because my…
