  • Oh awesome! Didn't know they had these settings! I'll let another friend of mine in the same boat know too. Thanks!
  • Thanks for the encouragement! Yeah I heard nursing can help a lot and I am breastfeeding. Counting calories is the only thing that helped me lose weight before so I'm back at it now.
  • I recognized that I was gradually gaining weight and doing nothing about it. I have too many friends who have just let it go and then are shocked when they wake up one day weighing over 200 pounds. So I stopped it in its tracks. My main goal was to become healthy as I have a lot of family medical history that isn't pretty.…
  • Document your weight loss with photos. A lot of times our bodies look the same to us because we look at ourselves 24/7. But if you see photos of yourself, you see the difference. I've tried to keep photos of my progress and it has helped keep me focused because I can see the difference.
  • You can do it! I started out with 30 to lose. I've lost 19...on my way! I feel great. It's very do-able. This site helps so much because of the food diary and also just the support from other people.
  • Remember your weight naturally fluctuates so don't beat yourself up about a gain if you've been diligent. Just keep at it and try changing up your exercise routine. You GOT this!!
  • Welcome! This site is such a great tool and resource for meeting your weight-loss goals (do I sound like a commercial or what??)! It's especially awesome just having lots of friends who are going through the same thing. Good for you for committing to a change! I started on here last July and made the commitment to change…

  • You're going to build muscle running as well. You'll build more doing weight training but running is definitely going to make build muscle as well, getting you toned and get rid of inches. I agree with everyone that you are most likely building muscle which is why the scale isn't going down. This isn't a bad thing at all.…
  • Have you tried low sodium soy sauce? I also like balsamic vinegar, rice vinegar, or olive oil and spices.
  • I started at 161.5 at 5 foot 6 inches. My goal weight was 140 but as I started losing weight, I realized the same thing...that maybe I'd want to go lower. I have reached 141 and I still see much improvement I want to make so I've lowered my goal to 130. My main concentration is being fit and feeling healthy. I definitely…
  • One thing that has really helped me is documenting my journey with photos. Because then I really can see that this all has made such a difference in my body. I still have those moments when someone takes my picture and I see it later and cringe...but I know a lot of that is psychological and me just having a hard time…
  • I personally don't really pay attention to the fruits in sugar because it's natural sugars, not the unhealthy kind of sugar. There's a huge difference between eating a piece of fruit and eating a spoonful of granulated sugar.
  • Speaking from my own experience with overcoming that fear of the weight room, have someone show you the ropes. Whether that's a friend who knows strength training or maybe someone who works at the gym. Usually they are more than happy to show you how to use the different machines (and most importantly, what NOT to do in…
  • I was absolutely in the same boat when I began this journey! I was convinced that I never overate and just couldn't lose weight. This site really woke me up and helped me see that I was eating way over my calorie limit. It's been such a great tool and I couldn't have gotten this far without it. Welcome!
  • I'm definitely in the same boat! It was quick in the beginning but the last 10 are dragging their feet. The thing that really made a change for me was taking fitness classes because I knew I would only push myself so hard on my own. So the fact you're going to a trainer is a great thing. But I believe the last 10 are…
  • Welcome!! This site is SUCH a great tool and motivator. Everyone is in the same boat so it keeps me going just knowing these people get what I'm going through. So make friends! That has helped me a lot.
  • Great job!! It makes such a difference when people start to notice the change. It's also important to notice it yourself. I have kept pictures since near the beginning of my journey and it has been so amazing to see myself transform. This is a great community that seriously helps keep me motivated. I hope it does the same…
  • Good for you! Welcome to myfitnesspal and feel free to add me as a friend! It's a great site and it really does keep you motivated. There's some great people on here. My goal is to lose 30 pounds too. So far, I've lost 18 and am at a stand-still but I WILL move past this wall!
  • If you're not already doing it, make sure to track all of your exercise on myfitnesspal. When it says you've earned extra calories from exercising, make sure to eat those calories. I would continue to stick to whatever calorie amount they recommend but make sure you eat those exercising calories. When you don't eat them,…
  • I've never done a challenge before but I'm interested in trying it! I'm 25 and weigh 145.5 pounds. My goal is 130 by the time my husband gets home from deployment (roughly May) but earlier is better. I started at 161.5. Valentine's Day goal: 130 Week 1 (12/22) - Week 2 (12/29) - Week 3 (1/5) - Week 4 (1/12) - Week 5 (1/19)…
  • I am definitely an emotional eater too! And I know how hard it is when you have a crappy day or something comes up or like you said you're just bored and all you want to do is eat everything. One thing that helped me is to have healthier alternatives and allowing myself to eat something but not get out of hand. So instead…
  • The cravings WILL get better. I had a really hard time when I first started out and would feel so frustrated in the evening when I was craving all this stuff and I'd already used up my calories. But just like everyone else has said...if you can eat it in moderation and limit it to just a tiny bit a day, you don't have to…
  • It hit me recently when I was able to fit a smaller size of jeans, the same size that several months ago I accidentally ordered and had to return because they wouldn't go past my thighs! SO inspiring seeing progress in clothes.
  • I agree with everyone else. Pull out the pictures and compare. I was not seeing results (or so I thought!) until I pulled out pictures and then I could totally see a change.
  • I think it also depends on how much weight you have to lose. My goal is 30 pounds and it was slow in the beginning but it was a consistent pound a week or so. Lately it has slowed down a bit and I think it is because I've started running also. Definitely gaining some muscle that I didn't have before which is a good thing!…
  • I hear olive oil is better for you than vegetable oil. And I like having fruit (almost any kind) after workouts and crackers or stir-fried veggies (in very little oil). I like your egg and toast idea.
  • A lot of people are against stir-frying but I don't think it's a bad thing as long as you are using very little oil and keeping it olive oil. Or if you can manage it, no oil at all. I stir fry veggies constantly and add LOTS of spices. My constant uses are garlic, ginger, and rice vinegar and a little soy sauce. It…
  • Agreed. Eat a minimum of 1200. I don't know all the details but it's something like...when you eat too few, your body is actually going into starvation mode and will build up fat faster. So less is not better. And changing up your exercise routine can help a LOT. I was in a rut lately too but when I started using some…
  • I'm waiting to reward myself at the end too. I'm ALMOST half way there which is very, very, very exciting. And I have more than enough time to complete it before my husband gets home. But little rewards here and there are good too!
  • I'm there with ya! Although I am seeing slow progress doing weights and cardio. Any exercise you do is going to help I think. I used to have several tummy rolls. Now I only have one. Hopefully soon it'll be down to NONE!
