  • I love these workouts, too! I'd also recommend Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred (they're 20 minute workouts but give a great burn!). Most of my workouts have been my at-home DVDs, and all of my success has come from them. I did start going to a Zumba class once a week, and I love the burn of that plus all the women to…
  • My initial goal weight is 10 lbs more than the site said it should be. LoL. I know eventually I'd like to be down to129 like it suggests, but I don't see that happening anywhere in the near future. My husband and I plan to try for a baby next year, and if we're successful, I'll be starting back at the beginning of this…
  • A lot of people had some good ideas so far, and I'd like to echo them. Also, I agree with the one poster who said you should look into interval or circuit training. I think it would be right up your alley once you build up to it. If you're only doing 2 minutes to start, break it up into sections of 30 seconds. 30 seconds…
  • Congrats on deciding to make a difference in how you feel! Don't worry. Just stick to your goals, and you should see changes in no time. Don't forget to drink lots of water! That was key for me when I started out! GL! There are so many people here who can help you and support you along the way. Feel free to add me :-)
  • Ada will be voted back in for the same reason you said! LoL Patrick will win, but I think Mark will be the at-home winner!
  • 1. I went back to school for a second degree (teaching) and completed the hardest semester I have ever been through! 2. Found a bigger home with my husband in an area we love. 3. Started a healthy lifestyle and got back to looking the way I did when my husband and I were dating! :-)
  • Don't give up! It sounds to me like you're doing great. Your weight gain could be because of a few different factors. My first assumption is that you've put on muscle (which weighs more than fat). And you want lean muscle because it continues to burn calories when you do NOTHING! So take out a tape measure and see if…
  • What did you select for your goal weight loss per week? 1200 does sound a little too little right now. I know that when I started at 171 lbs it had me on 1500 calories/day. My goal was 1.5 lbs/week. Now I'm at 149 with 1200 a day, which is perfect for me. My goal weight loss in 1.1 lbs/week (set by the site, not me). BWT,…
  • I would be interested in knowing who did these studies. It sounds totally backward, like you said. I would be hesitant to trust it. The only "fasting" I do is between the hours of 7 p.m. and about 8 a.m. (sometimes earlier). I couldn't imagine eating all of my calories before bed. I think I would be so uncomfortable that I…
  • This, exactly! Congrats!
  • AFter I finished the Shred I jumped onto the Turbo Jam wagon. I really like it, but I am also going to get some more Jillian Micheals DVDs. :-)
  • I know what you mean about being healthy all day and then something just snaps in your brain and you go for the snacks. For me, it happens when things are going "too well." As soon as I see that I've made progress, I start to convince myself, "oh, it's ok. I've worked so hard, I can let myself do this just once." It's…
  • I stop mine at 28 minutes, too. I get between 245 and 250. Yours sounds right, too. It all depends on the body type and how hard you're working it :-)
  • I absoluetly love mine. It has completely changed the way I work out. Now I know for sure what I'm burning and whether or not it's enough to maintain my calorie goal. I recommend getting one!
  • Don't beat yourself up. Just remember that the scale is a reference point, not the whole picture. Do weigh in for the first time as well as take your body measurements. DO NOT weigh yourself every day (I used to be guilty of that). Instead, try to limit it to once a week and pay more attention to how you are feeling and…
  • I think it has to do with a woman's body composition. I'm not in health care, nor do I know much on the topic. I'm just making a guess based on prior knowledge.
  • I purchased the Turbo Jam dvd system. I love it. It gives you three dvds to choose from. I like to do the 20 minute Turbo Jam during the week and the 45-50 minute programs on the weekends. I bought a HRM to calculate calories burned. I think that's the best way to do it.
  • Are you viewing it on a computer or a smart phone? I was having problems with MFP app for my android and had to uninstall and re-install to fix it.
  • When I try to read articles that people post, it doesn't show up on my computer. I copy/paste the link into a new window, but I get the page with no text on it. :-(
  • This is a great post, and something I've considered nearly all my life. Both my husband and I have struggled with weight problems growing up. He lost his "baby fat" by the time he was a sophomore in high school. During the first year of our marraige, he did gain a good amount of weight but has since been able to lose it. I…
  • How do you bump?
  • I'm still so confused on how many calories I should eat, and I've been at this for four months! So far I've just been following what calories it tells me I have remaining, and I try to eat all of those, even the calories it adds from my workouts. However, I'm at a point where it has set me to 1200 calories a day and won't…
  • I love Turbo Jam! I bought the DVD set after I saw it on an infomercial. I try to do a 45 minute routine on Saturdays and Sundays and at least the 20 minute Turbo Jam twice during the week. It's good fun! I also bought a HRM to see how much I actually burn. I can get up to 555 calories burned for 45 minutes. Good luck!
  • I've never done the DVDs but I go to a 60-minute class once a week. I log it as the dance option, but I wear a HRM to mine so that I know exactly what I'm burning. I get anywhere between 505-600 calories, depending on if I know the routines well or not.
  • I started going to Zumba at the end of last month. I only go once a week for an hour because that's the only time I can fit it in. According to my HRM, I burn between 503-556 in one hour, depending on the dance routine she does and if I'm familiar with it. Once I get the moves down I should be able to move more and burn…
  • Just hang in there! I know it can get discouraging when you don't see the scale move. But those are the days you have to push yourself even harder to stay in this. Keep exercising and staying within your calories, and change WILL happen. You've got a million members on MFP who are living proof! You can do this!
  • MFP gives me 1,200/day too. I think that's the lowest it will give a person because I was eating that before I lost my first 10 lbs. After I lost 10 lbs it said it was going to recalculate my goals but my calorie level didn't change. Stick to 1,200 but make sure you eat your workout calories too. That should help.
  • Hmm...not sure I exactly had a "moment." I knew for a long time that I needed to do something to get my butt in gear. I lost 60 lbs in 2007 before my husband and I got together. I was at my lowest weight of 136 lbs when we first moved in together Jan. 2008. Since that time--living together, getting married--I had gained…
