  • Hello. I've never posted to this community before. I turned 60 in November and it seems like my metabolism came to a grinding halt the very same day. Very disheartening. My extremely stressful job finds me reaching for the wine bottle instead of the barbells when i get home in the evenings. Until recently i was an avid…
  • I'm 60 and have been on MFP for several years. I've mostly taken this journey alone, but I'm now ready to share a bit more of myself in terms of accountability and mutual encouragement. Please feel free to add me as a friend.
  • Tiffany (or anyone else reading this post, for that matter), I just turned 60 and can hardly believe I'm that old! I don't look or feel my age at all. I'm 5'2" and weigh 138. I know that isn't too bad, but as I've aged my once firm body had gotten soft all over. My BMI registers in the "at risk" zone for heart disease and…
  • Steel cut oatmeal and a cup of coffee during the work week. Poached eggs, turkey bacon, rye toast and sliced tomatoes on weekends ... and the occasional Bloody Mary. :o)
  • We are as old as we perceive ourselves to be. I just turned 60 and am having a hell of a time reconciling myself to that fact.
  • I love my wine. .. shooting to lose 12 lb by March 21 (friend's wedding day ... want to look good).

  • Turning 60 in November and pledging to reach my goal weight well before then.
  • I am so sorry for all you have suffered. We don't always understand God's plan. Please don't ever give up. I know you'll persevere. I see determination -- maybe even a little defiance -- in your eyes in thr pic you posted. The healing starts now.

  • I really needed to read a "success story" today to keep my spirits up ... thanks - -and CONGRATULATIONS!
  • Since I posted this I've discovered I have some cartilage damage on my right knee. My doctor told me to lay off the eliptical but OK'd walking. I think I'm going to start with 5 Big Miles. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks, all!
  • One thought is to give up your time. Some ideas: pledging so much money to a charity for every mile walked during Lent; delivering a bag of groceries a week at your local food bank; volunteering to walk dogs at your local animal shelter, crocheting caps for children with cancer while watching TV. ... If you have a…
  • Kinda ... I tried creating my own exercise category, but then it is accepted and counted toward my daily calorie count as cardio, and I feel like that's overstating it a bit. I work up a sweat, no doubt, but seriously doubt my heart rate goes up much during a massage. Maybe I'm just being overly analytical? I think your…
  • Thanks for your thoughts on this subject. I have been counting the calories toward my daily intake, so no worries there. Unfortunately, it's that last little entry that sends my count just barely over the bar. LOL. Guess I need to exercise more!
  • I'm a member of the Planet Fitness in Corpus Christi, Texas. It just opened a few months ago. I like it because the people who are working out alongside me look a lot like me -- which is to say, not perfect but earnestly trying.
  • 130. I'm starting at 145.
  • I'm 56 and neither act nor look my age, or so I'm told. I'm loving it.
  • It's too early to get discouraged. There are just too many variables to take what you see at face value after only 2 weeks. Water weight alone could be a cause ... please don't give up. I'm only 2 weeks into the program too and have only lost 2 pounds. However, I FEEL slimmer and walk with my chin raised just a little…
  • Great way to put it in perspective. I have managed to not slip yet, but then I'm only 10 days into this ... I cheated a tiny bit this morning by stopping for an Egg McMuffin and already am gearing up to work it off this evening.
  • Such a beautifully expressed reality check. Thank you.
  • I'm joining this group because walking is essentially all I am doing at this early stage. My husband and I are avid hikers, and walking is an easy way to keep limber for those weekends when we are lucky enough to get out into the wild. Luckily we live in a part of the country where winter is virtually nonexistent, so we…
