VLCDs are torture. They're also a great way to screw up your metabolism. My husband's metabolism is damaged and we're working to get it back to normal. He stayed on a liquid 500 calorie a day diet for one year. Have you ever gone a year without solid food? It's torture.

You can also choose to include more healthy calories in the foods you already eat. For example, adding slivered almonds to your oatmeal in the morning, or adding avocado (a very healthy fat) to your salads and omelettes. Also consider eating more times each day rather than having two or three big meals. :-)
