I think it depends on how much you have to lose. If you have 50 to 100 pounds to lose it can take longer to notice a difference, but if you are closer to your goal weight and fitness you might notice right away.

My name's Angela. My ticker says I have a bit under 100 pounds to lose, but once I get to 100 pounds lost I think I will still want to lose a few more. I'm a busy work at home mom to a toddler and I've been very active here on MFP for 3 weeks now. Feel free to add me! Best wishes to you!

Congratulations on your achievements! You look great!

You look beautiful! Congratulations! :)

I want to lose 100 pounds and I just started 2 weeks ago! I've found a great group of friends who are so motivating and encouraging. Feel free to add me if you like. :) I'm so thankful to have found MFP. The support here has been just what I needed. You can do this! Best wishes...

Hi, so sorry no one has replied to you yet! I just became active here on MFP two weeks ago and I am the heaviest I've ever been. I want to lose 100 pounds. It's a very high, scary number when you look at the whole number like that. But I'm trying to break it down into smaller goals - like 8-10 pounds a month. If we set…

I'm not addicted to walking, but it is my favorite exercise. Now that I have a toddler it's really the only exercise I can do without paying a babysitter. We try to take a walk every afternoon when the weather is nice. She loves it of course, and I'm starting to enjoy it more now that I'm watching what I eat and feeling…

I just started here two weeks ago, I've lost 4 pounds and would like to lose 100 pounds. It's overwhelming so I'm trying to set smaller goals instead of looking at the big number. I'm telling myself that time is going to pass by whether I make healthier choices or not, so why not use that time to make healthier choices?…

I'm 35 (already? yikes!) and have one toddler daughter 21 months old! I'm just getting started and working towards losing 100 pounds...

I'm fortunate in that I don't get bad cramping, but I do get super irritable and emotional, I get hungrier, and I retain water, ugh! I've only been logging my food on MFP for a few weeks and am due for TOM soon. My plan is to take walks like I always do and eat back all my exercise calories from the walks if I'm extra…

I'm a perfectionist, and I have to fight the tendency to give up when I mess up or have a bad day. Its like my brain says "I'm not doing this perfectly, so why bother?" It's a challenge I will always deal with. So I can relate to your situation. In the past I've been very "all or nothing" with eating plans. Something a lot…

I agree with this, from my personal experience. My parents are both very active and healthy and have what might be called a "good" metabolism. While I was living at home with them, I ate what they ate and did the things they did. I was very active. But I was always a bit chubby. One or two nasty people commented about how…

I'm so glad you are feeling better! I am too, in spite of a bad weigh in. I like to keep thinking "One year is going to pass anyway, think how much better I will feel if I use that year to stay within my calorie goals." Even if I don't lose 100 pounds in one year, even if I only lose 75, 50, or 60, that will still be much…

Hi Angela! Welcome! I'm Angela too. :)

That's a great NSV! You have come so far, and you've stuck with this over a month! If we take this slow and steady, think how far we will be one year from now. It's hard when we feel like we have so far to go, but months from now we will be so glad we've stuck with it. You've been a great cheerleader to me, and to other…

Yep I agree, you've made a huge amount of progress! You look great! As a side note, I love the clever use of books in the first photo! :)

I've observed from personal experience that the heavier I am, the longer it takes people to notice. When I lost weight the first time, in my 20's, I was still in the 100s and people noticed right away. Now that I'm unfortunately in the 200s, it seems like I have to lose 30 or 40 pounds for people to notice. I do agree that…

Great suggestion, thanks!

Way to go! I'm 5'-6 too, but I'm only just getting started on my journey. I still have over 90 pounds to go. I wanted to say that you carry your weight well - in both of your pictures I think you look smaller than your actual weight! :) Great job & best wishes!

I don't have much advice because I am the same way. No matter how much I lose I always see my imperfections. I would say maybe we shouldn't look so much at tabloid magazines, fashion shows, celebrity news etc because that can make us feel very negative about our bodies by comparison. Celebrities have a team of people…

What the others said. Do you have a before picture? Take a picture today and look at them side by side. Are there clothes in your closet that are too big now? Or clothes that fit you now that were tight before? Is it easier to walk around, go up steps, cross your legs, etc? Try to find all of the small things that you have…

Thank you thank you thank you for sharing! My goal is to lose 100 pounds and sometimes it seems so overwhelming at the beginning...you are very inspirational. It's true, even if it takes 2 years to meet goal, those 2 years are going to pass anyway, right? So why not make the time that passes count towards your goal? You…

Very inspiring! Thank you!

You look great, and so happy too, congrats! I hope to be able to follow in your example shortly. :)

Heh. I can totally relate. When my daughter was 6 months old I was finally ready to watch what I ate and try to lose some weight. It worked well for 3 months and I lost 30 pounds. Then she started teething at 9 months. She has been the worst teether that I know of - she is just miserable with teething. Her sleep schedule…
