I also subscribe to the neck up/down theorem: Head = suck it up and go. Chest = lots of liquids, hack that crap up and live to fight another day.

Still haven't received my Average Guy jacket yet. Anyone else?

Just to play devil's advocate, what if we run 20 miles, but eat greasy pizza and drink beer? :)

Tapering now, longest left is 8 before the full on 10/12. I think I'll just grab a new pair of Adrenalines (both of my current ones are shot), and maybe add the Sauconys after the full. Thanks everyone.

I've been told by my wife that she misses hugging when it wasn't like hugging a skeleton. She's not wrong, I carried a boatload of fat in the chest & shoulders, and have lost ~10" from that area. She's entitled to that opinion, it's fine. I like not feeling like a rhino.

As the Carson the Wise said, you've got multiple moving variables so you can't know for sure. I'm sure it'd be a mix of less body weight to carry around, increased strength, and aerobic capacity.

So how many calories are in 4oz of body lotion? I can't find it on the food database. I'm cutting out alcohol for October, may as well cut back my nightly shot glass of Body Shop moisturizer.

Ok, the last of my craft IPAs are gone.

"You have nice legs for a skinny chick on crack." True story.

Got a couple more IPAs to clear out of the fridge tonight & tomorrow.. (pushes in stacks of chips).

Welcome to the club, your jacket is in the mail. I'm horrible. Been horrible for 10+ years. 2.5-3hrs a night is good for me, no joke. I can pass out within 3 minutes (due to pure exhaustion), only to be woken up by something ridiculous like the wind or something, and I'm up the rest of the night. I've cut out coffee,…

Running is not responsible for the gain. There's got to be something else going on with fluid retention. Is your sodium intake insanely high?

A trip to Belize has been ruined for me forever.

"Elliot, if we're gonna go that way, you're gonna need a bigger knife."

This should end well...

Thanks for posting this. I'm so focused on a training plan recently that I've forgotten why I started.
-
I went through something similar a few weeks back where I fell behind on my training plan by about a week, and tried catching up over the course of a couple days. Each run felt like I was punching a time card. I finally realized playing catch up was wreaking havoc on my passion for it, so I decided to write off a couple of…

I absolutely think the mental toughness aspect can be developed, and even needs to be developed. My long runs for marathon training were as much mental as they were physical. Working up to 22 miles has given me the confidence to be able to go the additional 4+. Of course, any abnormal circumstances can wreck havoc with…

I wouldn't call it sympathy weight - more like lazy-getting-older-and-sitting-on-my-*kitten*-eating-like-garbage weight. But yeah, the whole domestic thing doesn't help. Both of my parents are morbidly obese, and I was headed in that direction. My wake up call was seeing myself in some pics and realizing that my physique…

The sound of dozens of Garmin watches starting lap 1 at a race start line is music to your ears

Given the volume of training you've done, I wouldn't worry about the long run so much the week before. Technically, you should be tapering as Daj said. The training you've done is cumulative, I don't think the short one the week before will hurt you at all. Also keep in mind that you've done a majority of your miles with a…

Thumbs up to LoraF83 for the Chi mention - worked great to keep you from overstriding, focusing on cadence. It's amazing how much speed you can pick up from a higher volume of slightly shorter strides.

I pimp out the Brooks Adrenaline to anyone I can. Love those shoes. Also heard good things about the Saucony Omni for overpronation. Regarding stretches, check this link: http://www.runnersworld.com/tag/itbs-iliotibial-band-syndrome

I do my best messaging when I'm busting out sub-7:30 miles. Just saying.

I have a FR610 with a HRM and footpod. I weather them for every single activity. I'm a slave to the numbers. I leave the watch on the heart rate page 90% of the time to ensure my effort is where I want it to be. Interestingly enough, my 22M on Tuesday had me averaging ~145 bpm through the first 10-ish miles, then gradually…

Will definitely take a look, thanks Carson. ATT949, seeing as how you're a user, have a question for you - I'm seeing that the distances are off by almost exactly 10% from what I logged via the Garmin. Looking under the specific lap info, every lap is shown as "0.9 miles", not 1.00 as was logged in the Garmin. Do you see…

Interesting timing. I do a very similar route every day around my office, which includes several .5 mile laps around a closed street loop. All summer, there have been a pair of border terriers that are usually in their yard when I'm out, and definitely that don't like my presence as I go by their kingdom. They don't appear…

It can be done, but it's not the smartest use of calories. Eating complex carbs, protein, etc, are much higher quality calories and will keep you feeling more full for a longer period.
-
I've been following the RunKeeper 3:45 full marathon plan (more or less, I'm actually doing a bit more than what it calls for) but it's a solid plan.

One of the key takeaways I've got out of McMillan's, and from the hardcore runners here, is that I don't do my slow/easy runs slow or easy enough. Definitely something I plan to address after my first full.
