Craft beer. I'd be like 125 lbs if it weren't for those beautiful brews.

Like Dave said, it's largely due to statistics of people being on their feet for that long and the risk of injury increasing as you tire, especially if you're new to the distance. Though as VM said, if you're able to whip the miles out quicker, you may be ok with going further if you feel good. The plan I did called for a…

He probably thinks his *kitten* looks fantastic in said jeans.

Yep, most relaxing minutes of my day.

If it involves that snake oil salesmen, I'm sure it involves crawling around in a person-sized mockup of your colon.

Just look at me. What do you think? Don't answer that.

How was I not in this group before? I'm in for 200.

For me it was when I could go 2 miles without my lungs burning up. It became some quality head clearing time.

Some people go with the neck rule. If you sick from the neck-up (headcold/sinuses, you can do your work. If from the neck-down (upper/lower respiratory) then skip it. I have the same issue, I'm horribly susceptible to bronchitis, and got whacked with it pretty badly 5 days before my first marathon.

Is it after a specific amount of time you're on your feet that the headaches occur? I tend to lean in the blood chemistry/electrolyte category as well.

You're in the right place. You'll find all manner of obsessive people here.

Most people follow the 10% rule, don't add more than that amount of mileage week over week. What is your weekly mileage at now? When adding additional frequency, perhaps cut back some of the duration/distance for 1-2 of the other ones and go from there. My experience is that the 10% is a good guideline, but there have been…

My local store says they have no problem taking back a pair. I've never had to so I don't know the statute of limitations on a return, but if I did need to bring a pair back, I would make sure it was within a few days/runs.

Guy has self esteem issues. Knocking other people down to make himself feel better. And sadly, you're the easiest target because you're right there, and he thinks you will put up with it. This guy needs to get his house in order. Take care of yourself.

How has your training gone? Obviously you can do the distance. Is it a new course, or one you've done before? Have you set this race as a PR goal? Some nervousness is normal, and probably a sign that you've taking your training serious enough. I enjoy hitting courses I've done before, they're perfect progress measuring…

I've only had experience with the Garmin HRMs. Similar experience to the OPs, Sometimes they were fine, other times I could have up to 50% error rate. What I found is that some of the dropouts/spikes can be a result of static on your shirt, especially non-cotton technical/running shirts. I found that even running the shirt…

You guys are so unsupportive.... I quit running. True Roberta, I was getting over Bronchitis at the time. I actually was pulling a faster pace for the first 8 until I hacked up about 3 lbs of lung butter and made myself slow down. If my health were optimal, I probably should've been able to come in ~5min quicker. Victoria…

Oh, and the name "Carl". It usually ends up coming out like "Curl". I'm stupid.

I have a hell of a time with "patronize". Is it a "long" or a "short" a? I've heard it said both ways. Yet despite how I say it, I'm usually told that it's the other way.

I've only got one full under my belt. I think that works against me as well. A more doable goal might be to shave a good ~20min off the next one, and then bite off another chunk of time in a subsequent. Or of course, I can wait until I'm 45 and the time drops by 10 mins. either way :) Edited for more info: I'm not…

She can also leap tall buildings in a single bound :) Amazing time she pulled today.

For what it's worth, I had a few of my long runs go awry when training. You don't have to follow the plan 100%. Adjust as needed. There were a handful of times during the heavy training weeks that I would take 2-3 days completely off, as well as push back a long run by a couple of days, or even a week. No one single…

OP: I can see where someone being optimistic like you might take realism to be negativity. For what it's worth, you have a far more altruistic reason for running than I do - I do it for myself, my health, and my mental well being. So you've got a better motivation for it than I do. Motivation can carry you a long way. Many…

Very interesting read, thanks for that Dave. I'll try to defend the Garmin 620 here. I've had both the 610 and the 620. When I first got the 620, I ran with both the 610, 620, as well as an iPhone 4s on the same few runs. Both the 610 and 620 were were within 0.03M over the course of 6.25M. The 4S overestimated by about…

It depends if you're looking simply for GPS tracking, or a bit more data with heart rate zone training. It's entirely usable without the HRM, but I love it with the extra data. I'm an engineer by trade, and I'm a huge nerd for the numbers. If I had purchased my garmin without the HRM, I would've ended up getting it anyway.

I'd like to see more bacon runs, kind of like color runs, but where you get peppered with bacon instead of paint.

This guy for the win. And Miss Maple for the otherworldly badonkadonk.

Way too revealing. I like a woman who hides her goods under nasty *kitten* sweatpants or pajama bottoms. Pretty much the look that most of the hotties at Walmart have going on.

I've started working in an hour of classes at work, an Insanity 3-block workout, and then an hour of HIIT core strength/cardio mix. I found that while training for my first 26.2 that my core was pretty weak and my form went to hell as I got up over 18 miles. I'm hoping this will help. I would do the sleep thing per Carson,…

I want to fight your nephew. He sounds like a bully.
