Naturally thin people disgust me. Because I wish I was one :)

As long as you've built up adequate mileage prior, you should have little problem with this. Many people do a long run of 13+ miles every week. Best of luck!

Mentally, 16. Physically, I guess 16. I'm in better shape now than I was then.

So I see this guy regularly in the gym multiple times a week. He sees the amount of miles I put in. Obviously I'm there with a purpose every time. So he hops on the treadmill next to me last week, starts yapping loudly to "himself" (me) for 5 minutes about the impressive cardio workout he was going to do. He hops on and…

With the right layers, I can go out as low as ~5F if there's very little wind. Started one today at 19F but pretty solid 30-35mph winds made it feel much more like 1F. Layers help.

Happens to me on every run. Seriously, every one, no joke. I think it's static from whatever moisture control shirt I'm wearing. It seems to dissipate within .5 miles, though it's lasted as long as over a mile. It's not your chest ready to explode, trust me.

I wouldn't. This coming from someone who ramped up far too quickly after 6 months and had some serious IT band issues as a result, so I'm a bit jaded. After that, I built up gradually over the course of ~2 years until I did my first 26.2. Not saying it can't be done but in order to make the entire experience of training…

Since Feb/Mar of 2010, so 3.5-ish years, with a couple of 2-3 month breaks for injury, surgery, etc. Generally at 40-50 per week now. My yearly totals as follows 2010: 249 2011: 879 2012: 1451 2013: 1679 (so far, will probably hit 1850+ total)

Great feeling isn't i? I've only just recently done my first, but am already scoping out others. Please feel free to add me. That goes for any other runner types I'm not already stalking :) pete

I have the same problem. I'm down 45-50 depending on the day, and still look in the mirror and see the same lazy slob I was before. Good work man, you look good.

South of Worcester, about 45 mins from town. Used to work in town, and still do on occasion, love doing long runs along the Charles.

You'd better hope I won't make an appearance - I'll blow you both out of the water :)

I'm down ~45-50 depending on the day, am within ~5ish lbs of my goal weight, and still look in the mirror and see a lazy, overweight slob who can inhale a can or three of pringles in a single breath. So I'm not sure, unfortunately.

Best I can do is a 10 mile run. ~1:20 ish

While I'm not a competitive runner, I definitely like having a race to look forward to. Always nice to measure progress against myself.

Not at all. I started at 38. Couldn't do a mile without vomiting. Literally vomiting. Just did my first 26.2 a couple of weeks ago. Plenty of people on here that have started in their mid-late 30s and are doing great. And of course, there's Carson. From another planet. One where apparently everyone runs very well.

You get out of it what you put into it.

That's actually a good question. I never do any distance less than 5K. I should probably try an all out sprint at the local high school track and see what i can pull.

A specialized running store is the way to go. One item to note though, is that the people at my local store are very helpful and will spend a lot of time with you to ensure you're happy. As such, I will always buy from them if I put them through the trouble of using their time and expertise on me. Even if it costs more.…

This. Times 1000. Until I'd seen some truly less than flattering pics, I never realized I was actually as large as I had gotten. Now that I'm down ~50, I still only see that heavy, lazy guy sitting on the couch inhaling a tin or three of Pringles.

I never really did anything specific targeting speed until ~3 years in. I sped up regardless though through simply doing more miles. It builds up your aerobic capacity, lactate threshold, and allows you to tune your gait for the most efficient stride. How many miles are you doing weekly? What is the breakdown in terms of…

I run most of my races without a support staff so handing off clothing isn't really an option. That being the case, I've got plenty of old technical tees that are, shall we say, not the freshest... I wear those (with a dose of Axe body spray as a service to those around me) until the start, when I ditch it. I start…

Give it a few days and you should be fine. The worst of it will be a couple of days after, and you'll feel fine within two days after that. Best of luck!

C25K. There's a mobile app. Best thing out there.
