  • Definitely get fitted. I went to my local running store and they recommended Saucony for me as I over pronate, I have wide feet and I have plantar faciitis (fallen arches). I couldn't afford to buy them at their store, but I found last year's model on Zappos for a lot less money (the sales rep recommended this to me when I…
  • my daughter is 7 and has defined abs because she's just an active kid and she's skinny enough to see her musculature. her BMI is high. my 4 year old's BMI is also high. i don't put too much stock into it. and thankfully, neither does my pediatrician. he always tells me, 'look, we have policies and i have to tell you about…
  • We are fortunate that we can afford parochial school for our kids and their school lunches are the BOMB. Balanced, healthy and delicious. I wish they could take their program to the public schools. And what about community gardens in the schools? Using student power during the summer to tend the garden? Maybe teach middle…
  • So what CAN I eat that won't kill me? MFP seems to be full of advice on this topic. :grumble:
  • This. I tell my kids it's ok to be mad, but I'm not going to watch them have a fit. They can rejoin the family when they are ready to be nice.
  • i'm with all the others who talked about bra size. I'm a 40DD right now, but I can wear a 42 D and a 38DDD. It's all about the ratio of band width to cup size. Your boobs haven't gotten 'bigger', it's just how bras are sized unfortunately.
  • i grill tons of burgers during the summer and freeze for winter. i will freeze about anything...including cooked meats. however, if it's just plain old chicken, steak, etc, I try to undercook the portions i will be freezing so they aren't dried out from the reheating. i also pre-measure, cut, dice, slice, meat that is…

  • i enjoy the sun too much to be with a redheaded guy.
  • on nice spring days, i'll also take my kids to a local high school track and bring their bikes. they ride with abandon around the track or play in the field and i walk or jog. we have great trails too, but this way, i don't have to pay too close of attention to my 4 year old. i can see him from every angle and i can crank…
  • one more suggestion - whenever i go to the bathroom, i do squats or pistol squats. while i'm waiting for my lunch to heat, i do calf raises. I'll also occasionally drop and do a few pushups (but I have my own office too). gets the blood flowing, it makes good use of my time and i get a little resistance training in.
  • oh, and as for temptation - we have an entire drawer devoted to candy in my office. as well as 12 boxes of girl scout cookies, oreos, muffins, pistachios, etc. i allow myself 1 dip into the chocolate drawer at 3 PM and I log it. sometimes, i'll go for the nuts too, but again, i log it. you don't have to completely deprive…
  • I know the feeling. If you have a spouse, significant other, etc. - you could do what we do and that is alternate nights at the gym. MWF, I go to the gym right after work - he feeds the kids, does the baths and homework, etc. T, TR and Saturday mornings are his days and I handle the kids. I also rely on my crockpot A LOT.…
  • oh, and air popper plus nutritional yeast. you boost the nutritional value of the popcorn and it tastes like parmesan cheese.
  • And another reason I think the late night snacking is hard is because of our schedule. With our kids going to bed around 830 or so, my husband and I spend the next hour or two after they go to bed cleaning the house, washing bottles, making lunches for the next day etc. So, by the time I sit down to watch one show with…
  • to each their own. I don't have any. Have always considered it. On the other hand, I have friends who have ink on their faces/necks, forearms and can't figure out why they are discriminated against in employment. Not that discrimination is ok, but it's definitely a consideration given the culture of business.
  • i'm sorry about your struggles, but it seems like to every suggestion, something else pops up - btw, i'm vegan; btw, i'm lactose intolerant; btw, i don't like the texture of avocados; btw, i don't like the texture of yogurt; btw, gluten intolerant, etc. etc. etc. it just seems like you aren't really looking for a fix. what…
  • you can never eat too much peanut butter. which is why i'm on mfp trying to lose weight. at any rate, some people don't like PB2, but I use it in yogurts and smoothies, etc. as a lower cal, lower fat version of peanut butter. all the flavor for about 45 cals. i do NOT like it mixed with water as a spreadable. but mixed…
  • Also, if you were just looking to vent and not for advice, suggestions, etc. you might have titled your post as 'Rant' or something along those lines. Otherwise, don't get too sensitive when the hounds are unleashed.
  • why is the husband not making his own breakfast and lunch? perhaps he could do a couple loads of laundry at night so you can squeeze in a workout. i work 60 hours a week, i have 2 small children and i've had a wedding, birthday, holiday, etc. every weekend since christmas, plus kids activities, etc. i still get to the gym…
  • i eat them, i just log them. i tried cutting them out and felt like a miserable failure when i couldn't stick with it. i do what one poster suggested - i log them first and decide if i really want to waste that many calories on chocolate, ice cream, etc. if you really want to break the habit, it can be done. i did Dukan…
  • strong male hands. no long lanky fingers. i also love my hubby's chest hair and the little patch between his shoulder blades. i love to spoon and let it tickle my nose.
  • ^^^ Me too! :)
  • This ^^^^ I use it in smoothies so I can get the flavor or peanut butter without the calories. I am not delusional. But for now, it's an acceptable substitute for this peanut butter addict.
  • I've got the same thing. Love it. Only thing I would make better is it's ability to transmit in the pool. Other than that, it's great. Once I got it, I realized how much the machines at the gym are off on calorie burn. It's not unusual for there to be a fluctuation +/- 250 calories burned.
  • ^^^ this. i have no 'diet' anymore. i've done them all. i have decided i feel better not eating a lot of grains. so i don't. but i love fruit and so i eat fruit. i've taken the things i can live without most of the time (bread) but i allow it every now and again as long as i count it in my calories. last night i was…
  • when I plateau, i go low carb to jump start the loss. i do that for about a week and then slowly bring them back in a week at a time. for example, week 1 - i will eat only lean protein every other day alternated with lean protein and veggies (of the green variety). week 2 - lean protein & veggies every day, fruit every…
  • no such thing as better fat. i too cook things from scratch. i don't want my kids filled with preservatives and chemicals. so when i decided to lose weight, i realized that i was actually being a better mom by teaching my children healthy eating. don't get me wrong, we still use plenty of fats - i prefer butter to…
  • Are you doing an Atkins style induction? Or are you doing low carb/high fat (LCHF)? It depends on what specifically you are doing and what your carb/fat targets are for the day. I was doing Dukan, but was stalling out. So now I'm doing more of the LCHF and it seems to be working for me. There's a FB group with great…
  • i look at it as my 'bonus' - if i'm craving something sweet, it gives me a little wiggle room, but i don't eat more than half back. i know what others 'say', but this is what works for me.
