  • One week into it now. I've gotten 15+ minutes of guitar practice in every day this week. My fingers are still pretty sore and I can't go for more than five minutes at a time. But I've been able to get five or six of those five minute sessions in per day. Just waiting for those darn calluses to hurry up and form :)
  • Got the strings on and 15+ minutes of practicing Mon, Tue, and today. Made the mistake of ordering medium gauge strings though. Should have gone with light gauge until my fingers are back into guitar shape. I can only hold the chords for a couple minutes of practice at a time. That's ok though I spend the rest of the time…
  • Tuner and strings showed up today. Re-stringing guitar and first 15 minute practice tonight.
  • When I was 28, (51 now), I bought an acoustic guitar on a whim. I ended up taking lessons for three years, then played it off and on over the next 10 years or so. It's been probably almost ten years since I played it. I've been getting an urge this last year to pick it back up and now I've stumbled across this thread. I'm…
  • People that walk up to the dumbbell rack, grab a couple and do their set right there in front of the rack while you are stuck waiting to get to the one's right next to them. I hate interupting someone in the middle of a set.
  • I'm the same way. I eat pretty much the same breakfast and lunch every day and never get tired of it. Bananna for breakfast and a turkey or ham sandwich for lunch. Snacks are the same also, either yogurt, small bagel, or a roll. Dinner's vary though.......oh and can't forget my nightly cruzan rum cocktail that never varies.
  • Update: February results ****************************** Love this thread because the timeline matches up perfectly with my goal. I'm on my anual yo yo train. Doh!, did it agian: I put 20 lbs on between September and end of December (third year in a row). SW Jan 1 - 182lbs Goal Weight -160lbs Goal 1/31 - 177lbs (176.8…
  • My amateur layman's understanding. Not meant to be scientfically precise. The calories you intake aren't enough to fuel your body for the day (deficit). So your body goes to fat reserves (and muscle) to make up the difference it needs to fuel.
  • I've been back more than a few times over the last five years.
  • Shaking during planks is normal.....at least for me. I'm in pretty good shape and have done other core building exercises over the years. Just switched over to planks a few weeks ago and I shake every time.
  • Once I start the weight loss I keep going till goal is hit. That hasn't been my problem. My problem is "quitting" on maintenance. The last three years I feel like I've either been in diet mode or in binge mode, with way too short stints of maintenance in between.
  • 51 here. Even though I've been back a few times over the years this is the best app I know for losing weight. I'm always open to friend requests.
  • I've never been a big breakfast eater. It makes my stomach queasy for some reason. When in deficit mode I just eat a banana until lunch. When in maintenance, a bannana, some bread, and then a snack around 10am.
  • Mine was hereditary and diet didn't change it much (high 200's). I opted for statins. No side effects for me (YMMV). Not everyone suffers from side effects.
  • Way to keep it up over an extended period of time. Well done.
  • I'm 51 and have been back to MFP several times over the years. I had one big drop about seven years ago ( 45 lbs ). Since then I've had hic ups where I put 25 back on , took it off, put 15 back on, took it off, this time put 25 back on and am trying to take it off. I sent you a friend request.
  • I weigh every day, but I've learned not to react to the variations from day to day. I record once a week and it's usually the average for the week, unless there was an obvious anomaly day that I discard.
  • Red Yeast Rice pills took care of my chronically high cholesterol. Over the counter and no side effects. Talk to your doctor about them. My doctor didn't have a problem. Been taking them almost ten years now.
  • I'll give you my experience as a fellow "old guy". I'm 51 and tried a bulk three years ago at 48. I was in good lifting shape and wanted to improve my body fat composition without going lower in weight. I ended up adding about a pound a week for 16 weeks and followed a progressive overload program. The bulk part was a…
  • Calories In and Calories Out. Regardless of which machine you use, record what you eat, record what you burn exercising. If your calories out exceed your calories in on a daily basis you will lose fat over time.
  • Welcome. 51 here, but I did my intitial big weight loss at 45 (50lbs). Since then been I've been back a few times for the occasional 15 to 20 lb hicups along the way.
  • Are you logging your calories and exercise?
  • Not while trying to lose weight. I've done MFP a few times over the years and am usually on the 1 pound per week goal. If I have a cheat day the scale doesn't move that week and I have to wait another week to see a loss. So I feel like it costs me two weeks mentally. This time around I'm going to try a re-feed week or two…
  • I think what he is saying is the calories per gram or per ounce are different between the two powders? Now he's mixed them together and is wondering how to record it correctly. Op, if it were me I'd just add extra calories to my entry to give yourself some wiggle room. If the calorie info is the same for both powders, then…
  • Welcome. What are your goals?
  • You sound like you have the right attitude. I'd caution that wholesale changes in lifestyle all at once can become challenging to maintain over time. I agree with momepro. Small changes done over a period of time have a better chance in resulting in a bigger lasting change. Good Luck.
  • I know goal is BF%, but what are your starting and goal weight numbers? Curious how much you're looking to lose.
