IF will do wonders for your insulin resistance, as will lifting weights. I've been doing IF 16:8 for the past month or so alongside resistance training. In all honesty I haven't really lost much weight but this was to be expected given the amount of crap I ate over the Christmas holidays. It's sort of what I planned…

Wow. That sounds great! Gotta give both those a try. Thanks KnitOrMiss and Happymom221!

Thanks for that detailed reply! What are fat bombs exactly???
-
When I was tracking my macros before I went off on holiday, I estimate my fat intake was around 58% - 60% on average. In order to be more keto adapted my understanding is that I need to eat more fat. The reason I have upped my carb allowance to <50 is because I will be doing a lot more exercise than I did before my…

Up to 8 yellow flashes today so seems to be working. Not far off red. Yippeeeeee
-
Hold the phone! I used it tonight and it seems to be working again. I'm getting one flashing yellow light now and it's been calibrated to Sport mode instead of standard. I think that means moderate ketones?
-
That's what I'm thinking too. I contacted them yesterday and I'm still awaiting a reply. Thank you.

I have to be honest, I'm getting really frustrated with this thing. After calibration when the light turns solid blue, I blow into the unit but after about 10 attempts it hasn't registered once. The light remains solide blue. The support documentation is non-existent. Does anyone know what is wrong or what I could be doing…

Fantastic. Thank you!

Thanks Gale. That seems like too much hard work. Fair play to you! I'm hoping I can get the Ketonix working as it should, therefore I wouldn't need any of these, but thank you for the suggestion nonetheless
-
Dan - you really ARE the man. Thank you! This is extremely helpful. The Ketonix website seems to be lacking quite a lot of important information - unless I am looking in the wrong place. I'll test the Ketonix as you have suggested. I'm hoping to get some consistent results. Some of your blogs look like they would be…

Thanks for the replies guys. I'll give it a few more days and try find out more information on how to use it properly.

It's not fat you should fear, it's carbs :D

I use Biona Organic Raw Virgin Coconut oil. 800g for around £13 and it's unbelievable stuff. fine for cooking with and has a slight coconut smell to it (hardly surprising) but certainly doesn't taste 'coconutty'. I actually use it as a moisturiser as well as it's really good for your skin. can also be used as conditioner…

Thanks TeaBea. Those links are incredibly helpful. Much appreciated!

Best of luck prendlin! I honestly think 500/600 calories is pretty generous as it's only two days a week. I had a tuna sandwich this afternoon and I'm still feeling stuffed after it. I started my fast at 8pm last night so it ends at 8pm this evening which means I can have a fairly decent dinner after this time as it will…

I really like that approach actually. As I'm only starting out I'm going to go with the 600 calorie per fasting day recommendation but I have every intention to do a complete fast over a 24 hour period. I would definitely like to progress to this stage. A few of my friends do this regularly and they say it's something…

Thank you Gibbs! :-)

No you're not doing it wrong. Some folk can go 24hrs without eating anything at all but the 5:2 method based on the book allows 500-600 calories in any given 24hr period. If you are following this then provided you stay under the calorie recommendation for fasting days then you'll be fine.
-
That's not true and I'm not getting confused. I deliberately selected the sedentary profile so that my calorie allowance would be at it's lowest. So no, I am not eating my exercise calories.
-
Thanks for that NahrasWay, appreciate that! The 5:2 approach which I am using at the moment seems to be working well. Even if the food intolerance test turns out to be nonsense, I still learned about some supplements which I am certain have made a difference to my energy levels at the very least. I no longer get headaches…
-
Thank you. I never thought of hypoglycemia. I don't think this is the case because the headaches have now completely gone and I have far more energy than I've had in quite a while. I'm certain this is because of the additional supplements I've been taking; namely spirulina, chlorella, sea kelp and probiotic capsules. I…

Thanks. Yes, since I started recording my diary as accurately as possible over the past week or so I kind of knew I was going to be a bit over this week as I attended two birthday parties in consecutive days. Despite this however, I still lost over 3 pounds which I am extremely please about. I don't expect my diary this…

I wish it was that simple, believe me!
-
Sorry but that is total nonsense. Starvation mode is a myth and nothing more. Since I adjusted my diet this week (thanks to the help of MFP forum members) and having spent almost two weeks on plant supplements I have lost almost 4 pounds - in a week. This is following the 5:2 intermittent fasting diet. 5 days I ate around…

Hey Black Rose, First of all, sorry for your loss and second of all, well done for taking charge of your neice and nephew. Give yourself a big pat on the back for that! Here's my opinion. Some will shoot me down for it and others won't. Of course, it would do no harm to seek advice from a doctor but before taking any…
-
Thanks for that. I actually don't think it is a thyroid issue. This was suggested by the food intolerance testing person as a possible cause of my fatigue and afternoon headaches. Either way, the supplements I'm taking now have more or less completely diminished the headaches and fatigue; for now anyway. I agree. I think…

I wish that were true but as it turns out iodine deficiency is very, very common. It used to be in the soil naturally but due to cheaper methods of farming (i.e using tap water to water crops) iodine is a lot less than it used to be. Table salt does have some iodine but nowhere near an adequate amount. There is some…

I like this approach. I've started the 5:2 method. The plan is to start the 24hr fast (with 500 calories) at 7pm and finish at 7pm the following evening, followed by a day of normal eating (within my TDEE of 2,494) and another 24hr fast.
-
Thank you for the recommendation. If things don't improve over the next few weeks then I may well just do that. I've been a little naive and haven't recorded calories. Now that I've started this and also with the addition of food scales then I should get a true reflection of the calories I am taking in. Let's see how it…
