About 5 or 6 runs per week, always with hills on trails. 2 days are interval training for an hour each, and big runs are 2- 3 hrs on Sunday. It changes depending on upcoming races. 40 -80k/week.

You cannot change others; you know how hard it is to change yourself! You are not responsible for others' healing or levels of awareness. The only person you are responsible for, ultimately (barring any kids you have) is YOU. A good way to see this simple truth might be to visualize yourself at a time when you were really…

Take 3-7 days off training. I'll bet you're overtrained a bit. You wont die from not training and I will bet that you come back healed, motivated and ready to go. Cheers, Erik

Watch for crazy spikes at the beginning of a workout; if the strap isn't wet at the contact points it can be erratic until you sweat (Garmin bad for this). But if you're already sweating or you wetted the strap then you're getting a good reading. HR guides are just guides, geared to inactive people I believe. I'm 48 with…

Exercise makes you hungry, so it's not in itself a good way to lose weight. Counting what you eat is a way to lose, gain or maintain; it's that simple. People love to complicate this. The value of this website is based on the simplicity. Try easier exercise if you think that you could benefit for other reasons ie: physical…

There is no reason to eat before any run, even a big race, and some would say especially not before a big race. With that I'd say prepare all your gear the night before; lay it our ready to put on. If you really drag *kitten* in the morning, have a coffee ready to go on your coffee maker- first thing you do when you…

An athlete knows that there is time to heal; meaning having the mental strength and discipline to back off sometimes and give your body a break. Muscles don't grow under stress, they grow during rest. And obviously your immune system is working on something. Give it a break and let it do its job. Fitness is about being…

I am a fit, fast runner. Let me say that whenever I see someone who is overweight or not a great runner out on the trails or at a race, I feel that they are the ones that deserve the most respect. I usually give a thumbs up if I am paying attention :^) "The miracle is not that I finished, but that I had the courage to…

I haven't posted on the forums much as I see so much misinformation on these and other forums and can't be bothered arguing. But a barefoot thread is different as there are people using their brains IMO. Just ease into barefoot/minimalist footwear. Take your time, speedwise and distance-wise. If you've been in shoes all…

Interval training once per week will boost your speed faster than anything. IE: Light jog for 10 minutes followed by 10 sessions of this: 1 minute very fast run followed by 1 minute very slow jog. 10 minute light jog home at the end to cool down. There are tons of variations on this. Google it and see what you come up…
