Sorry, not trying to pick on you. I know we are all (most of us anyway) just trying to help. :flowerforyou:

I agree it matters. Just not for this. There's no need to invent an extreme example like eating only donuts as the alternative to eating clean. I agree that food affects your health, but she wasn't asking about that, she was asking about losing weight. I think that confusing the issue by asserting that you need to cut out…

You don't actually have to eat "clean" to lose weight and reveal your abdominal muscles. All you need is a calorie deficit. Why make it more complicated than it really is?
-
Strength training preserves or builds muscle mass. Leanness is a matter of body fat, and only a calorie deficit will allow you to lose fat.

Love that site! What is his name here?

I like this for general info http://www.aworkoutroutine.com/the-ultimate-weight-training-workout-routine/ And this for bodyweight http://www.reddit.com/r/bodyweightfitness/wiki/faq

If the article is from a journal with a reasonable-sounding name, it probably has been. If it's from a blog, website, newsletter, etc., it probably hasn't been. Also check to see if the article cites references - it doesn't mean it has been peer reviewed but shows the authors have at least done some research. ^^ Ditto what…

I like the idea, I used to have a "free day" once a week -- I think it helped me comply with my deficit the rest of the week and gave me that mental and physical break. I used to write down things I wanted to eat but was saving for my "cheat day" and even just knowing that I could have it in a few days helped a lot. I…

I did that once -- well the car ahead paid for mine so I paid for the one behind me. It made me unreasonably happy.

To be fair, strength training is great but it isn't going to affect subcutaneous abdominal fat. OP, it's not a matter of building abdominal muscle, but of losing the fat there through a calorie deficit. So yeah, keep doing what you're doing, plus strength training if you can. Not just core work, but full body strength…

Crap I can't think of anything! You guys have set the bar really high. I will do something tomorrow. Good topic. Oh I gave my co-worker a ride home from the dentist after she had a tooth pulled even though I had to stay late at work to make up for it.

No exercise will help you there -- only fat loss. Obviously exercise can help with fat loss (and general cardiovascular health). Strength training (bodyweight exercises like pushups and pullups or weight lifting) will help you maintain the muscle you already have, but no exercise alone will get rid of abdominal fat.…

Thanks for posting!

Are you trying to lose weight? You seem to be at a good weight.

He makes a good argument for water retention being the cause of the plateau, but I also wonder if there could be a hormonal component, since metabolic and other hormones (thyroid, cortisol, leptin, testosterone) are negatively affected by weight loss, especially at a high deficit. Refeeding can elevate (or in the case of…

I agree he has to want to do it - you can support him but you can't do it for him, make him do it or trick him into doing it accidentally. Have you talked to him about your concerns for his health? If he understood that his health was at risk, that you are very worried, and that you are scared he is going to develop…

Just enough almond milk to turn it a lovely shade of chocolate brown. Of the non-dairy milks, almond has the least intrusive flavor I think.

Just for the sake of discussion... She's 29 years old, 237 lbs, not sure how tall but let's say 5'5". Using an exercise level of 6 days a week on IIFYM.com TDEE calculator, her TDEE is around 3000. She's eating 1500, which is a large deficit, and hasn't lost in 2 months. It seems to me more likley she has reached a plateau…

On this site, your net calories should equal your calorie goal. That's why MFP increases your allowance when you add calories burned through exercise. The point is not to create as large a deficit as possible, but to achieve a deficit appropriate to your weight loss goals. So yes, eating more (or exercising less) would be…

Christianity is not analogous to other religions in the US, so attitudes toward it are not going to be analogous. That said, I think there is skepticism on this site for any restrictive diet plan, especially if it is seen as being promoted through books or other products for a profit (or if it uses fuzzy terms like "jump…

There are a few groups already, like this one: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/10936-the-daniel-fast But they haven't been active for awhile. You can search for groups using the "groups" tab at the top of the page. You might get more support on Warren's website if there is a community there. Good luck with whatever…

From what I have experienced and read, it contributes very little, even when done correctly. http://www.swimsmooth.com/kick.html

For arpiagape1 That quill you wield, keyboard from which you loose A hundred perfect words, and let them rise Into this crazy cloud, it brings us proof That not all fitness pals have simple minds, And not all posters only come to say They'd pass, bang, marry, or delete, Or argue o'er what fat and muscle weigh, But some…

I guess we're in the same band. I can play the kazoo. On a good day.

The White Chips. I think that's already taken.

Look into Total Immersion swimming. I used to hate freestyle because I was doing it wrong. TI teaches you how to streamline and use your core and weight shifts to move yourself forward more than your arms and legs (ever wonder why aquatic animals have a long sleek body without those flailing arms and legs?). Kicking…

Oh says Red Molly to James "That's a fine motorbike. A girl could feel special on any such like" Says James to Red Molly "My hat's off to you It's a Vincent Black Lightning, 1952. Richard Thompson Most of the day it was the 12 days of Christmas tho...and unfortunately I only know one line.

I usually lose about 2 lbs overnight.

It would be better if MFP alerted you on what was to be the day of your death and then you could go over calories guilt-free. Or maybe the day before would be better.

It probably depends on how much "work" the victim has had done and what kind of drugs they are on.
