  • Kale chips are actually really tasty. I've also taken to some dried tomato "chips" seasoned with oregano and red pepper flakes at the farmer's market. Green tea with a small bit of honey is nice in the morning.
  • Go to a dentist. Also floss more.
  • Yep. I don't bother with places like BWW, Friday's, Applebee's, etc. The menus are full of nutrition landmines and the food is not worth it. If I'm going to blow my limit, it should be for something actually tasty. A local BBQ place (tho chicken + veg isn't all that bad), some legit chinese food, etc. Life's too short to…

  • I've done Intermittent Fasting before, however I didn't do the entire day. Rather, I'd condense my calories into a 6 hour window. So basically an 18hr/6hr split. It worked pretty well for me, though honestly a big part of it is that it just made it easier to plan out calories as I didn't think about eating except when I…
  • If you're feeling strain from kettlebell swings in your knees, odds are you're doing them wrong. Power should come from your hips, and you shouldn't be hyperextending your knees at the end of the movement either.
  • Even assuming it's garcinia cambogia in those caplets (a few recent studies have found that mislabeling is rampant among herbal suppelements), it won't do anything. Seriously, the odds of it being something else that could be actually harmful probably outweighs whatever placebo effect that could be derived.
  • Pigeon pose, lizard pose, and couch stretch are three exercises that can open up your hips significantly. Foam rolling and using a lacrosse ball/softball will help open things up as well.
  • I believe studies have shown that the amount of calcium lost by ingesting lots of caffeine is minimal. As in, 1 tablespoon of milks worth of calcium. Don't want anyone being worried about their daily coffee =)
  • If you're just starting out and not doing anything overly complex (e.g. no snatches or overhead squats) then a flat soled shoe is fine. If you want something that is good for running and lifting, check out inov8 flites, reebok nanos, and nike metcons. The nanos and inov8s you can get cheap online or at outlets. Metcons are…
  • The gym *should* have a foundation/on-ramp series that will teach you proper form and how to scale the movements. If they drop you right into a workout, that's a serious strike against the gym. Crossfit can be amazing, but there are some awful coaches and gyms out there too. I went to my brother-in-laws gym one time, and…
  • Nothing legal and safe works. 99.9% of weight loss pills are just caffeine which your body gets used to incredibly fast.
  • I"m not vegan, but got Thug Kitchen (a vegan cookbook) as a gift and quite enjoy the recipes I've gotten from it.
  • You just paid a lot of money for caffeine. The only effective fat burners are dangerous, questionably legal, or both.
  • Yohimbine can work if you are doing fasting along with it. But, in some it can cause some pretty serious side effects. Not worth the risk IMO. Anything else that works is illegal to use or requires a prescription.

  • Strength training.
  • Don't fall into the trap of trying to do the same as everyone else. A lot of crossfit movements are pretty technical and shouldn't be brute forced. It's OK to go light for as long as you need. Look for gyms with trainers that have more than just the L1 Certification. It's a weekend course and in no way proves competency.…
  • This kind of obsession over a pound or two of water weight isn't really healthy. Unless you're planning on a modeling gig the very next day, just eat a pickle. So what if you retain some water?
  • Go to a sports store and try some stuff out. It really has to do with your strength. Bands could be perfect for you, or they could be way too easy. Keep in mind a lot of the stuff in P90X is high reps.
  • Yes, you should have a routine. That's how you will be able to track your progress and make noticeable gains. What routine you choose depends on your goals. Strength training, look up starting strength, stronglifts, etc. Bodyweight/calesthenics, I've heard good things about convict conditioning. Even if you want to just do…

  • Whey protein is just a high-protein food source. Unless lactose causes you issues, it shouldn't cause you any issues. Also, unless you raise your own cows raw milk is generally not worth the price or safety issues.
  • Most paleo recipes will work.
  • Slow cook them in some kind of sauce, then shred. I agree with freezing any portions that would be consumed after 3 days.
  • Are you looking for basic whey protein or mass gainer? If I'm bulking, I'll do whey protein + dextrose with whole milk after a workout.
  • Body weight stuff mixed with sprinting and other high intensity cardio.
  • Start off by sticking with fresh vegetables, fruits, and meat. Then work in the processed foods you like as you verify if they're soy free or not. As far as going out to eat, you're just going to have to research and put some faith in the restaurant staff to know their ingredients.

  • Nothing wrong with pancakes as an occasional treat. I doubt OP is downing stacks of pancakes every day.
  • Impossible to say. If it concerns you, best to talk it over with a doctor.
  • Be aware that real maple syrup is significantly more expensive than 'pancake' syrup. I find I don't need to use as much because the flavor is better, so it balances out.
  • Protein and creatine, and how to take them are the source of so much terrible broscience.
  • 5g a day of the cheapest creatine mono you can find. Any time of the day, once a day. No cycling necessary unless you want to lose some of the water weight associated with creatine use (some people notice 2-4 pounds of extra weight, generally dropped a few days after ceasing use of creatine).
