  • Regular porridge oats. We buy the Sainsburys Taste the Difference oats - as they are nice and 'chunky'. However you can buy Quakers or Scott's. Whatever. Add a bit of water and microwave for 2 mins, stirring once in the middle. Then add your fruit. The sachets are not what I term real porridge - they are all sugary, and…
  • Love, love, love celery. I use it in a lot of things. Stews, pasta sauces, soups - celery soup and other veggie soups. Roasted in the oven with other veggies, such as onion, carrots, courgette. Totally changes the taste and texture. Raw as a crudité to transport hummus and other dips to my mouth filled with cottage cheese…
  • Curry spices differ according to what type of curry you are making. Some will involve more use of coriander or cumin, others tamarind or cardamom or cloves.
  • I wear a Buff. http://www.buffwear.co.uk/buff-headwear/original-buff Keeps my hair in place, and my ears warm :)
  • Something like a fish stew or curry can be good. You can make it with less oil/fat - and add extra veggies on the side. This one looks good http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/532640/summer-fish-stew-with-rouille Or for simplicity make a parcel using parchment paper or tin foil - and place some lemon, spices, herbs, onion…
  • I won't be trying it. But I love watching it- and the results he and the other guy who he got into it, were amazing. Just shows what good food can do for you.
  • Are you in the UK or US? Sizings differ between the two. michikade has it right though. Measure under band - say that is 32 Then measure around fullest part - say that is 37 You would be a 32 E (iirc) Do NOT measure underband and then add 4 or 5" which is how some shops measure - Marks and Spencer, I mean you.…
  • Yup. As above. Fruit is healthy - but does contain a lot of sugars- hence the calories., I would advise to enjoy fruit, but don't forget to log it. Maybe try more veggies instead. Green leafy vegetables take a while to eat, are bulky and have far fewer calories than the starchier veggies like carrots and sweetcorn. I just…
  • If you like them, then you get them. I personally prefer the black and grey print. They are wild enough for me (but I am 45!).
  • As said up thread - moderation is key. I am older than you, so the peer pressure to drink alcohol isn't there, but I do like wine. Over the summer I was drinking most days - and the calories sure do add up. So since the start o f September me and my husband pledged to only drink on the weekend.(it starts Friday evening ha…
  • No, but I am in the UK - as in the previous post we also have strict gun control. No where is totally 'safe' to run. However when I run alone I stick to busy routes, I don't wear earphones, and I carry my mobile phone in case of emergency. Plan a route, inform someone of your estimated time of return home, and be aware of…
  • No, I don't take any supplements. . From what I have read you do need to be careful. Some vits and minerals can be a bit dodgy if you have too much, and others next to useless. I had a quick peek at your diary. There is one food group missing - vegetables :) . But you know that. Veggies don't have to be dull - by cooking…
  • I didn't get in. My magazine arrived today - with a big, fat SORRY on it. Meh...
  • There are two listed as sparkling spring water -I just searched Highland Spring. The second one has 10 cal - however seeing as Sparkling is misspelt anyway - I doubt whoever posted that info is correct. Tick the first one - which says 1l. And halve your amount. 0 calories. But I was correct re the sodium.
  • Just plain water. With bubbles? I don't add them to my cal count. Just tick the water cup at the bottom. There shouldn't really be enough cals to worry about in water? However, you may get sodium I guess.
  • Thanks Marika. Good luck. :)
  • Yes. of course. That's where the name comes in....
  • I have one of these http://www.sweatshop.co.uk/accessories/bags-belts-and-wallets/ifitness-mini-lycra-belt-29238.html I like to take my phone out with me. It fits snugly in there- it's quite a small pouch, which stretches. I then put a house key in my back zip pocket in my running trousers. p.s. FANNY PACK makes me…
  • You can view lots of workouts on line - on You tube. my DVD player isn't working, so I have been working out with various Denise Austen workouts on You tube. It mixes things up too. If you buy a dvd you feel obliged to use it, but with the free workouts online you can pick and choose.
  • Wow! It just shows what a difference it wil make. well done on your swim.
  • No- I do not think they expect everyone to finish in 45 minutes. Unless it was a race only for professional athletes. However some of the fast runners WILL have finished by 35 minutes or so from set off. So the awards will probably only be going to the Speedy Gonzales of the day anyway. My first 10k race took me 1 hour and…
  • I love PB. There are some people out there, I hear, who don't like it.
  • As fit as you want. I am 45 and only took up running at age 40. I am still not brilliant, but I persevere. :) There are some people at my parkrun who are in their 70s. And they are faster than many other runners. Just think of it this way - you have another 50 years left in you? Keep moving, and you might make it longer.…
  • That's funny!
  • Both are rank. Water is the way to go. (closely followed by wine of course!)
  • Agree with Roxigirl Any of Jillian's will give results. I have recently been just finding workouts on You Tube - currently doing a few by Denise Austen. They aren't over tough though, just enough to keep you moving a bit.
  • this is a a timely thread. I was also wondering how accurate the calculations are/can be. As an example - this morning I went for a run. My Garmin says I burnt 579 calories. - Now that knows how fast I ran, up how many hills( It is very hilly around here) and my weight. I don't have a HRM on it however. MFP calculated that…
  • I have cut down the booze to weekends only. So that is my only dietary change for the weekend.. Plan to go out to the pub later in fact :) However, this morning I have a longish run planned - so that should earn me enough calories for a couple of glasses of wine. Can't be perfect all the time :)
