I cannot speak for others, but I know for me it is the only way to lose and maintain my weight without suffering cravings. I am insulin resistant, which means carbs (particularly refined carbs) give me a blood sugar SPIKE followed by a blood sugar CRASH which leads to cravings for more carbs. The complex carbs in whole…

Those sound DELICIOUS. I might have to make up a batch right now! ETA: OK, I just made a batch of these, with minor substitutions (truvia for the agave, about time birthday cake whey protein, etc.). The batter made 6 "regular size" pancakes, 180 calories. 20 carb, 18 protein, 4 fat each. They are very dense, almost like an…

All of the "diet plans" out there that are low fat/high carb, REGARDLESS of the source of the carbs. Yeah, that doesn't work for me and the majority of the overweight/obese population who are insulin resistent. The source of the carbs DO count! 100 calorie packs of cheezits are NOT the same as 100 calories from a banana!

I just got chard at the farmer's market yesterday and am planning to saute mine with a little EVOO, garlic, onions and red pepper flakes; it will be a side to my bun-less burger and probably some roasted potatoes (sweet and white).

For most people, anything less than 1800 is going to cause a reduction in milk supply. That was the information we gave our clients when I was a L&D nurse.

When I am in maintenance I weigh every day; however, when I am losing I weigh once a week. I find the fluctuations to be frustrating and often the excuse to abandon program so I'd rather avoid that and weigh once a week. I am 5-5 and I am aiming for 145. I don't like the way I look when I am too skinny. Fat is a great…

I don't subscribe to this "get rid of this one thing (these three things) and you will be slim" mentality. If it is edible, I am going to eat it and enjoy it....especially if it comes from the earth. Mayans/Incas/other ancient civilizations ate corn as their primary food source and they didn't have problems with obesity…

I don't think you folks who are coming here saying "that's not a binge" are being really helpful. A binge is defined by the feelings surrounding the intake of food, not the ACTUAL intake of food. Just as one can binge on things that are healthy, one can binge and STILL have the calorie intake for the day be within normal…

I don't usually give anything up but I think I will follow the example of a previous poster and give up swearing. Evidently I swear so much it even bothers my teenage children!

My body ACHES from doing a Jillian Michael's workout video, so I have to take it easy today; I will probably walk. Been doing really well on the eating side of things so I hope to see a nice loss on Friday.

Absolutely agree with this. The lap band surgery is not "less invasive"; both surgeries can now be done through the laprascope and require very little time off work for recovery. If you are looking for the surgery with a proven track record, years and YEARS of post op data is available for the gastric bypass. I had mine 10…

(Not a breast feeding Mom but a former breast feeding Mom and former L&D nurse) If you are breast feeding, you need MORE than 1200 calories!! If you continue to take in too few calories your milk is going to dry up. A bare minimum would be 1600 calories; 1200 for you and 400 for making breast milk. That is a bare minimum.…

I think you are over thinking this.Sugar is ONE FORM of carbohydrate; it is a high proceeded, simple one that has a very profound effect on blood sugar, especially the blood sugar of overweight people. It is better for your health, and for your blood sugar control (meaning, to avoid BS spikes and the BS drops), if you get…

Agree, agree, agree. Many people who need to lose weight are "carb sensitive" and a snack like popcorn is not likely to last and may lead to more carb cravings later. A higher protein snack will likely carry you through to that dinner you have planned.

what kind of surgery did you have? what kind of iron are you taking? I have had good experience with the HEME-based irons (not ferrous sulfate); I get mine from a bariatric supplement website. I have heard that some people become SO anemic they have to have iron infusions. Why do you not take Calcium? If you had any…

Ask to be tested for C. Diff; it is RAMPANT in hospitals. Hope you feel better soon.

I had a great week and weigh in on Friday....minus 1.5 pounds. Trying to improve my exercise consistency so I purchased a new exercise DVD which I will break in tomorrow. My youngest daughter loves my homemade blueberry scones so I made those today but with some changes; I used fat free half & half in place of the heavy…

Thankfully our local chinese buffet has a sushi bar, so I keep my focus there. But I rarely go to a buffet of any kind, so the once in a while when I do things are ok.

I agree that the exercise machines and the estimates of calories burned are often not accurate. Having said that, I DO occasionally "eat back" all or part of the exercise calories MFP assigns me, but I do so ONLY if I am hungry at the end of the day. I don't eat just because I CAN, kwim?

No...because clean eating isn't eating all green vegetables. It is very easy to go over your calorie needs if you have a diet heavily focused on sweet potatoes, legumes, lean meat, avocados, EVOO, nuts, quinoa....all staples of a clean eating diet. I eat clean 90% of the time because when I do I feel FANTASTIC; but I still…

I agree with everything Mr. Taubes presents....and no, I don't think that makes this site irrelevant.

I usually have a pretty structured eating plan during the week so that I can relax a little on the weekends. And by "a little" I don't mean going hog wild crazy!! It means going out to dinner and choosing a sensible meal (heavy on the veggies), indulging in my one beer a week, and maybe (maybe!) sharing a dessert with…

My brother is super morbidly obese and his blood pressure is normal. There is a lot more that goes into health/heart disease than weight.

I find this works REALLY well in maintenance but not-so-great during the losing phase. Had a great V-day....hubby brought home a SMALL (4 serving) red velvet cake for the girls and a beautiful native american painting (similar to one I had admired) for me (and our new house, under construction). I did not indulge in any…

Here's the bottom line: all the exercise in the world isn't gonna do SQUAT if you're eating crap all day. I didn't look at your diary, but something in your post about being a "picky eater" and not eating vegetables leads me to believe that your diet is likely not very good. You are a grown up; you can LEARN to like new…

Good for you for taking this important step. I had my surgery over ten years ago and have been able to maintain my 100+ pound weight loss pretty well...with a few "bumps" where I tried to forget I had surgery and THOUGHT I could eat like a normal person. Three times I did this and three times I gained from 20-30 pounds!…

I am eating chocolate pudding spiked with whey protein powder 'cuz my husband didn't get me any chocolate. I did get a nice piece of artwork. And I gave my kids AND hubby chocolate-filled hearts 'cuz they are all normal weight and I am the only fat one and that TICKS me off!!

Hubby knows I am working to take off a small weight gain so I do NOT anticipate any obstacles because of the holiday! I am one of those "addicted to the scale" and am trying something new this week: not weighing every day. I am here to say it TOTALLY improves my attitude; I don't let what the scale says decide my behavior…

Here comes blunt: your diet SUCKS!! Where are the fruits and veggies? One green salad and a 1/2 cup of mandarin oranges does not even come CLOSE to what your body needs. Ditch the 100 calorie packs. You're already taking Dr. Pepper (which I understand is an addiction and therefore is best for some to wean SLOWLY)....that…
