I would take the first and last numbers you posted each week (weight, navel ") and ignore the rest. As said above, too many ways to miscalculate those numbers. To me, your schedule looks like a lot of exercise with no rest days. If you are eating at a 545 cal deficit, I'm guessing you're around 1,200-1,300 cals per day?…

Just as an FYI - Craig Ballantyne emphasises a 3 day a week strategy with his Turbulance Training, so keep that in mind before you start designing a 6-7 day a week mix of weights and interval training. Such a workload can be tough to recover from in terms of rest and sufficient calories. Alan

I'm not going to sugar-coat it - YogaX is tough, but only for 45 minutes. Then you get into balance poses and stretches, do some ab work (also tough) then stretch and cool down. If you can somehow get through the first 45 you can make it to the end. I find keeping the front leg straight for reverse warrior helps conserve…

Sounds good, I'll look forward to your thoughts. As a reference point, the estimated calorie burn for the workout is 596-866 calories over the 41 minute duration. Not bad if it is true :-) Alan

Here is the article from Men's Health. The workout they reference is a high-intensity cardio/lifting program, so not classic weightlifting - I'm going to try it once I finish my P90X in 6 weeks. Alan The Great Aerobic Hoax For decades, we’ve been told that the best activity for burning calories and fat is aerobic exercise.…

Azdak, Thanks for posting, it helps me understand the issue better. That being said, by any chance have you seen or read the article in a recent Men's Health which discusses this exact question? There is some new research using "new methods" which seems to indicate that the calorie burn from weight training could be up to…

I'm just finishing week 7 of my first round, so a bit ahead of you in the schedule. I tend to come here to log my calories (in and out) but keep the P90X stuff to the BeachBody site. I am a member of a group over there. If you can't get something going here check out the BB site, there's always new groups starting up. Alan

Thanks for the reply, but this is why I'm confused. If I eat 2,600, and burn 851 (as I did this morning) that nets out at 1,749 - does the net number matter, as long as I eat above the BMR i.e. eat 2,600 and burn 800+? Or should the net be over the 1,900? Thanks, Alan
-
Bump, and looking for clarification for myself as well. My BMR (based on 3 different methods) is around 1,900. My activity factor is around 1.2 (desk job) so basic daily energy is 2,280 Exercise (P90X) adds around 820 on average, so TDEE is 3,100 - correct? So, to maintain a small deficit I should eat in the 2,800 range,…

Thanks for the suggestions and pointers. I currently eat Dempsters Whole Wheat @ 70 calories a slice, so it is hard to go much lower without eating the wafer-thin bread like the Weight-Watchers stuff. I would rather have the good bread and 1 less snack than go the other route :-) Alan

Hi Catherine10, I am actually from Dublin so I know it well, though it has changed since I was last there I'm sure. The city itself is actually quite small, so is very walkable, but I would recommend a bus tour ot give you a good idea of what's there. For specific points of interest I would check out Trinity College,…

Thanks Lauramg, I got my first bit of motivation tonight when I updated my diary and saw my calorie count for the day - it's a bit of a shock to see it right there. Made me leave the pie in the fridge, I'm going to have to earn that little piece  Alan

Well Michigan gets it pretty bad in the winter as well, so we can certainly relate there  At least most of the snow is gone, but it's -17C with the windchill tonight. Thanks for the welcome, and stay warm yourself! Alan

Just wanted to stop by and say hi to everybody. I joined the site today having heard it mentioned at another site, and I think I will get a lot out of it. Looking forward to chatting with new folks, and tracking and sharing my progress as I go. Cheers, Alan
