All of the above are excellent suggestions (moderate drinking of course) I am a puzzle person myself, the 1500-2000 pieces kind; and a reader. depending upon the natural of his surgery, he may be kept busy with physical therapy, which is a good thing too. He may also enjoy building models-- cars airplanes, tanks, etc.

OP-- Personally I don't think slight variances over or under matter. You could look at your net calories consumed and expended weekly and average them out. If on average you are hitting 1800, then it shouldn't be a problem for you. The downside of "slight variances" is in the actuals. How "slight", how often, and sweating…

Wow. You must see it all with the owners. I took an into to agility class with my pit and it was quite a work out and lots of fun for both of us. She's powerfully built and excelled at many elements and a couple of the others -- running in and out of the poles in a line were a challenge.

If you have a tablet, you can purchase the app "You're Your Own Gym." You use your body weight for weight training. You can build your weight training program and track your progress with it.

I use Endomondo Tracker for cycling. I have two apps on my tablet -- JEFIT Pro for managing weight lifting work, and You Are Your Own Gym. The latter is great for weight lifting work using your body weight and you don't have a gym available.
