Destiny, I think you have lots of good advice here. I can only emphasize the importance of fit and really thinking through the kind of riding you will do and the availability of bike paths, "friendly" roads, etc. Sometimes you get lucky and will find a decent bike at a thrift shop, but I wouldn't buy anything just because…

I agree with Brainyburro's assessment and recommendations. Underlying Spousal/significant other issues appear manifest themselves when one partner is changing. And the issues have nothing to do with fitness or weight goal efforts.

First, I would check with a vet . I don't know where you are planning to cycle with your pooch, but where I cycle dogs tethered to a leash with their Mom or Dad cycling are pretty much a pain. Some of them lunge towards whom ever is going by, and take up the width of the bike trail. But whatever you decide to do, enjoy.

Mostlywater makes a valid point re fatigue and heat, and more especially if you are running in humidity. And another poster made a good point about alternating days with weight training. Do you run the same route daily? I cycle 20 miles daily and discovered and felt increasingly tired and worn around 16 miles. I altered…

Hi, I'm 4' 11" and stay within 1400-1600 daily. I cycle 15-20 miles a day, and will soon add weight training. I struggled with losing until I upped my calories. Please feel free to add me if you are at least netting 1200 cals, active, and have an open food diary.

You and your husband look great. Enjoy your health and fitness. Your kids are adorable. Lucky them to have parents like yourselves.

if you want, tell yourself you can't sit down and read or watch television until you throw a load of wash in or stack the books and papers. Take odds and ends at a time. I'm assuming that your living space is disheveled, I live more or less that way and am comfortable with it. I wouldn't let it get to the point of having…

I had really great teachers in HS and liked most of my studies. Among my favorites were: Algebra, Geometry, some aspects of Physics, and Mechanical Engineering. History, European and Latin American English-- grammar, poetry and fiction I liked PE too, especially field hockey

Well said! Congrats on your accomplishment of fitness and great health!

Not to derail your carb question, but I am 4' 11" and I consume between 1400-1600 cals daily. I cycle 20 miles and lost 4 lbs and 2 inches off of my thighs, and an inch from my buttinsky. Are you netting 1200 daily?

I could go for 12 tbsp of PB, and on cheat days add the dilly bars. Cucumbers make me burp.

Well said. I would add that one of the best ways to beat the blues is to help others. It's the best way to bring light to your own darkness.

This is about what my experience was too. High quality silica purchased either at a reputable health food store or on the internet is pricey for the incremental results.

Your husband made a valid point re "insane." Why on earth are people so concerned about what other people think of what they are eating or not eating. You can't control what other people think anyway. Let it go and do what you want to do.

You are an inspiration. I bet you have lots more energy to take care of your little ones too! Enjoy your good health.

I agree. Well put. Being a Mom transcends all the rest of the junk.

I think Americans have alot of hang ups about nudity and the human body in general. Spas and beaches in other countries are full of people not so hung up be they "model" ready or grandma and grandpa. My German friends who have been in the spa business since the Roman invasion of the fatherland (as one of them likes to put…

What is "BRM?"
-
Not necessarily. My RMR is 1240, my BMR per Katch McCardle is 1371.

I agree with a prior post, Breathless with Jean Paul Belmondo and Jean Seberg far better than Gere version in '93 The Vanishing -- original French-Dutch version far better to the Kiefer Sutherland version Cape Fear -- original version with Gregory Peck and Robert Mitchum far superior to the Robert DeNiro and Nick Nolte…

I use the TDEE - 20% method combined with the rule of thumb method -- eat somewhere between 1400-1600 cals daily. No, I don't feel like a rodent in an exercise wheel No, I don't punish myself for overeating No, I don't think in terms of exercise efforts being wiped out by "eating back." No, on the motiviation to accomodate…

When I was in high school, my Dad once said, "you'd have more boyfriends if you would loose a few pounds." To which I responded, "I'd have more boyfriends if I wasn't valedictorian of my class."

I'm pretty much like this. I'm 4'11" and I cycle 25-30 m iles daily and recently started strength training. I net between 1550-1650 daily. I eat some but not all of my calories. I'm 60 so stay on the "shy" side of my TDEE and calorie counting.

I was bullied throughout most of my school years. At the time (early 60's and 70's) there weren't as many obese kids as there are now. My folks didn't help me much. I recall when I was about six my mother, who had an uncanny resemblance to Kathryn Hepburn -- the patrician waspish angular face, slender -- asked me why I was…

You can also use recipe sites like allrecipes.com. Search on the food item and you will find its nutritional data. The restaurant preparation of the dish and the all recipe dish may not be exactly alike but it at least you will have something to go by.

I also use Endomondo for cycling, and recently purchased ($4.99) JEFIT PRO for my tablet. I have an HRM for swimming.

Fantastic accomplishment on your part. Sometimes having weight issues is the glue that helps friends stick together. Although it is unspoken they may feel that you are or will "abandon" them with your success. They may even be "rejecting" you before you "reject" them. I personally am not so quick to leave deep and long…
