I weigh every day but I don't log unless I've seen a loss (usually once a week) AND unless I've seen the number on the scale one more than one day. That way I know it was probably not a fluke and I did actually lose that weight. I like to weigh myself daily simply because it helps me track if I'm retaining fluid and need…

I have a tatt planned whenever I am halfway to my goal weight, on my left calf the Korean hangul for "Taekwondo". Maybe not the most unique, but it's very meaningful to me and something I've wanted a long time. Still deciding if when I reach my goal weight if I'll put the hangul for one of the tenets of Taekwondo on my…

Thanks everyone! I do think I will go ahead and give it a try once I can kick this cold I've had all week. I do enjoy all of the different genres of music that were mentioned, and I enjoy moving and shaking when a good song comes on, so why not? :)

Thanks for the replies! I don't really have any way to take video of myself squatting with the bar, as I go to the gym alone and I can't get guests in. I also can't afford a personal trainer, so I've really got to figure this out myself for the most part. Sidesteel, no offense taken in the slightest at suggesting I may…

Thankfully I don't have to pay for these classes, they're included with my membership. So technically I could just try it out whenever, but before I jump in headfirst, I wanted to know what I'm getting myself into, lol.

I love this thread so much. Also, I've already decided that as much as I love my husband and am loyal to him, if I ever run into Tennant in person somehow, i'm probably going to jail for sexual assault. lol

I want to feel good about myself for the first time in my life. I've always had body dysmorphia because I grew up in an area where my BONE STRUCTURE made me considered "fat" compared to all the bikini-wearing girls. At my smallest when I was an athlete and was at a healthy weight, I wore a size 9 (29-30" waist). Now that I…

I suggest ditching the treadmill as soon as possible! I hate treadmills with a fiery passion. I've found that I love tracks a lot more for running, either indoor (at a gym) or outdoor (some high schools/college campuses have tracks that are open to the public). Also, you could take the suggestions others have made and just…

I would, because as much as it sucks to get started, and the whole time you're thinking "ugh i'm so tired, is it almost over?" at the end, you feel this sense of accomplishment, and your body just feels BETTER. The more you do it, the more you feel good all the time, and after awhile, when you DON'T do it, it feels alien,…

I feel your pain on the lunches!!! That's been my downfall for so many "diets" in the past, is getting sick to death of feeling like all I ever eat is sandwiches. I've found making extra food from dinner the night before and taking it to lunch works wonders for helping fix the "I hate sandwiches" feeling. Also like others…

Thanks for posting this! I think i'm going to have to deload a bit on my squats (boo) because my form is wrong. I actually had someone at the gym (another woman in the weights section!) come up to me and tell me that my form is off and I may end up hurting my back, because she did the same thing when she was starting to…

I work a sedentary desk job, but on my breaks I go outside and usually walk several laps around the building, either talking to hubby on the phone or not. I don't count that. Also, depending on how much walking we do, I don't count it if we go to the mall and walk around like we do on weekends (yes, we just walk around the…

There were two turning points for me, and even with those, it still took me a couple months to get it together and really change. I knew I was overweight, obese even. I was depressed about how I felt, how I looked, and watching the numbers on the scale go up and up. I had recently been diagnosed with PCOS and my doctor put…

QFT. :P that is exactly me too. Lol

I usually just kinda stand there like an idiot for a minute, lol. I have lately taken to watching the second hand on the clock like a hawk so it looks like i'm really serious about my exercise (I am, but in all honesty I don't know what else to do lol).

Calories. I did WW for awhile too, and I found that overall, it's too easy to "cheat" the system with it. I found pretty often you could find things that for one item it's 1 point, but if you eat 1 and a half of it, it's ALSO 1 point. So if it's still the same number of points, why wouldn't you eat more? With calories, if…

PLEASE listen to the people here giving you advice, and eat more! You may need to lose the weight, but if you ever want to make it a permanent change, it needs to be a change to your lifestyle, not a diet. As in, whatever you're doing to lose that weight, you need to be able to live with doing that or close to that the…

My husband noticed it before I did, lol. After around the first 10-12lbs lost he was pointing out how he could see a huge difference, and I didn't see it. Most people haven't said much about noticing my weight loss, but i'm hoping that i'll get lots of compliments when I go out to see my family next month :D

I like them quite a bit as an after workout food. I never get the salad (or the dressing, didn't know they had a salad dressing lol). But I do get a burrito bowl with no beans (I can't eat them, they make me sick), brown rice, meat, tomato and corn salsa, and cheese, sometimes sour cream. That runs me about 640 calories,…

More seriously though, lol... My goals are: -Lose another 43 pounds and/or get down to 25% body fat, whichever turns out to be healthiest for me. -Build up my strength and be able to squat/bench press in the over 100lb range (more if possible, i'm just starting out!) -Earn my black belt in taekwondo -Run a 5k in the next…

Most people around here will recommend you lift free weights that are heavy for you (as in, you can do 2-6 reps with it in a set). You won't get bulky or super muscular, but it will give you the "tone" that you're looking for. I started with Stronglifts 5x5, I love it so far, it's simple enough to remember and it truly…

I love doing taekwondo, and the feeling when I execute several perfect kicks in a row and make the pad go SMACK! each time! Also if I can do that and knock the pad out of the targetholder's hand, lol. That makes me feel like a beast!! I love feeling strong too! :)

Making exercise a part of my schedule, not something I just do whenever I get around to it.

I started at 230. 200 was when I started freaking out about my weight, but I had other health problems preventing weight loss and I got to the point I was so disappointed in myself that I was too depressed to try and stop the scale from going up, up, up. But, i'll get there. My ultimate goal is 170lbs or 25% body fat,…

Thanks fivethreeone, I had heard it called a squat rack before, so I mistakenly assumed it was the same thing. :) My bad, learn something new every day :)
-
You don't HAVE to have a partner to do stronglifts. The catch to that is, you need to have a power rack (also sometimes called a squat rack), something that will catch the weight if you can't get it back up and have to drop it. Most gyms will have this, it's pretty basic equipment. That's going to be the answer you get for…

I started out using dumbbells when I started doing strength training, simply because I was not strong enough to lift a barbell yet. But honestly, if you want to really make progress with deadlifts, you NEED access to a barbell in my experience. It is much harder to do deadlifts with dumbbells, and not having that single…

I've found that doing cardio-type exercises helps burn fat. If you can do it, I highly recommend martial arts or some sort of boxing/kickboxing. You will burn MASSIVE calories doing those, and they're actually very fun. I find that doing taekwondo helps give me the added motivation of learning the new moves, improving, and…

I've actually found taking a daily probiotic helps me with feeling gassy/bloaty. You might try that. :)

I know everyone else has already told you this, but eat more, for one. You need to eat at LEAST 1200 calories a day to prevent yourself from starving, and probably more if you want to have a liveable lifestyle change. You don't want to diet, because as soon as you quit "dieting" you'll go right back to 200lbs. Instead,…
