Barre class - What to expect?
Hi all, one of my friends has been trying out different exercise classes, and has found that she really likes barre. She's invited me to try it with her as my first class would be free, and I'm interested, but unsure what it's about. I've heard that it has aspects of yoga in it, and I happen to really dislike yoga. What…

Staying motivated and not burning out
Like many people on these message boards, I struggle to stay on the wagon when it comes to living a healthier lifestyle. I usually make it 2-3 months and then I'm sick of eating smaller portions and making healthier choices, I want to eat whatever I want in any amount I want, and next thing I know i'm back to the starting…

21 pounds lost, and so much gained!
I know compared to many of the people on this forum, this is small potatoes. But for me, this is HUGE. I have tried more times than I can count to lose weight and i've never been successful at losing more than about 10-15lbs at a time before quitting and gaining it all back and then some. The most i've ever managed to lose…

The hardest day...
Do any of you have one or two days of the week that always challenge you to stay on track? For me, it seems to always be Fridays and Saturdays, especially Saturdays. My work schedule right now is kinda wonky, I work Tuesday thru Thursday 8:30am to 5pm, and then Fridays and Saturdays I work 12:30pm to 9pm. By the time 5:00…

Ideas for bag lunch vegetables
Hi all, I was hoping for some ideas here. I've been including a fruit or vegetable serving with every meal for the last couple months. However, I've kinda noticed that with the exception of dinner (and very rarely breakfast), it tends to always be fruit instead of vegetables. I figure it's due to the fact most fruits are…

C25k too much too fast
Hi all, I'm trying to get into running, and everyone and their cousin recommends Couch to 5k to get started. But I'm obese category II, and I have a lot of issues with my tibialis anterior muscles getting strained if I do too much too fast. C25k is, for me, too much too fast. Right now I can just manage running 1 minute…

A real kick in the pants...rant
I've been working really hard to change my lifestyle for the better in the last 2 months. I've increased my exercise from almost nothing to going out and doing moderate exercise 6 days a week. I've actually slowly started incorporating running with my daily walks. I've made good changes in my diet and I don't feel like…

Obese and thirsty with high intensity exercise
Hi all, I'm just wondering what you all do about being thirsty when trying to run/power walk/do other moderate to high intensity exercise. Before anyone suggests it, I'm not diabetic, I've been tested repeatedly and this is an issue that I run into only when exercising harder than casual walking. I have to bring at least a…

crock pot recipe substitution, will it work?
I'm trying to go through all of the recipes I have and make them healthier for my husband and I, but I've come across one I'm not sure about. I have a recipe for baked potato soup that is made in the crock pot, and one of the ingredients is 16 oz of sour cream. I have found that I like subbing greek yogurt for sour cream…

NSV: Falling pants!
I woke up this morning and put on a pair of jeans that were always my comfy pants at my highest weight (read: a little looser than all the others). Thankfully I am working at home today, because I took about three steps and those dang pants fell down around my ankles, lol! My husband then fell down laughing at the…

About to hit a big scale victory-Reward ideas needed!
I'm currently just about 3 pounds off from having lost 20 pounds, and at the current rate i've been losing over the last month and a half, I should hit the big 2-0 in a couple weeks. That is 1/3 of the way to my goal weight, so that's kind of a big deal for me. I'd like to reward myself in some way (other than food), but…

Correcting imbalances?
I started trying to do the stronglifts 5x5 last year and I liked the program, but I ended up stopping after only about a month because I lost access to my gym. Now, I have access to a gym again and am guaranteed access for the next year. However, I had a free session with a personal trainer, and when I asked him to take a…

Tell me about Zumba!
My gym offers Zumba classes a couple times a week, and I was thinking of trying it out. However, I know very little about it, besides the fact that it's a type of latin dancing cardio exercise. I'm pretty out of shape, but I'd like something more interesting to mix up my cardio routine, so i'm not just doing it all on the…

extra lifting after 5x5 sessions
I was just wondering, is it okay/recommended to do any other lifting after doing the 5x5 sessions? Like, if I wanted to do dips, or bicep curls or something? I feel like my arms are the weakest things ever and I want to build them up, but I don't want to overdo it with me ALSO doing stronglifts. Thoughts?

Starting with Dumbbells?
Hey all, I've just started trying to do stronglifts 5x5, and I was just curious for some "expert" opinions. :) I have a gym membership that has a squat rack, and lots of equipment, but I can't work with the 45lb empty bar. It's simply too heavy for me. I can, however, use the large selection of dumbbells they have. I can…

Random question about yogurt
To those who eat fruit on the bottom varieties, how do you eat it? Like, do you mix the fruit from the bottom into the yogurt or do you just eat the yogurt on the top, then the fruit on the bottom? Or do you just eat the top and not the fruit? I ask because I've always loved FOTB yogurt, and the way I always ate it was…

Snacking when home!!!
For about 2 months I was mostly good about sticking to my calories and whatnot, but the last week or so, I've been really falling back into the bad habit of snacking too much after work! I'll be on my best behavior all day, and then when I get home, I eat dinner, and then 30 mins later i'll be snacking. It's not because…

What food can't you be trusted around?
I have discovered today that I cannot be trusted around caesar dressing! I just got a salad from costco and was going to be very reasonable about it, just dip my fork in the dressing and then stab my lettuce, and it wouldn't have been too bad caloriewise. I started out okay, and then somehow from there degenerated into…

which should be done first, weights or run?
I'm currently going to the gym 3 days a week, and when I go, I usually am doing stronglifts 5x5 and then running on the indoor track. I'm not sure if this is the best order to do the exercises in though, or whether I should be doing both in the same workout at all. What are your thoughts? I'm feeling that my body is going…

having a hard time with squats!
Squats have literally ALWAYS been the bane of my existence. I seriously have always struggled with this exercise, any time I do them I'm literally in so much pain and barely able to walk from the soreness for a week. I want to do the stronglifts 5x5 program and went in today to do it, had little trouble completing the…

question about starting running
Hi all, i'm new around here but I wanted to get some opinions on this. :) I'm really wanting to start incorporating running into my exercise routines. The problem that i'm encountering is that all the "beginners guide to running" articles, programs, routines, etc. I find have plans for running 3 to 5 days a week, and…

Here for the long haul!
Hi everyone :) My name is Angie, I'm 27 years old and live near the Kansas City area. I am married and own three cats, named Roy, Amani, and Zeldar (was Zelda, but we found out recently that what we thought was a "she" was actually a "he", so we added the R to make it sound more masculine lol). I started my current weight…
