There are so many great tips here. I know how easy it is to feel discouraged. I agree with everyone else that going below 1200 calories will be a bad idea -- and will also mess up your metabolism. I, too, am a Diet Coke person. I prefer it to most other drinks -- and I do drink too much. Studies do show that our bodies…

I am also Karen, so maybe I'm Karen2. I once said that if you had a room of twenty women 50+, at least three would be named Karen (or Caren, Caryn,...) I am in Pennsylvania near Gettysburg. It's good to read everyone's location.

Hi Susie. I'm new too. I've been on MFP for almost two weeks and this is my first post in the group. Looking at all the success of the other ladies in the group is encouraging. I love MFP. Today I had a burger (We're on vacation and everyone wanted to eat at a special trendy burger place.) so I just ordered it plain and…

I'm 61-- still working. I have 3 children & 5 grandchildren as an incentive. I've lost weight on "programs" before only to regain it all (fast!) I'd love to have more MFP friends.

First, congrats on your weight loss. In my life, although I weighed over 200 pounds only when I was pregnant with my last child(and then only 215), I think I've probably lost and regained about 400 - 500 pounds, so I've been to the weight loss rodeo often. I agree with the advice to "focus on yourself." That said, it also…

I walked longer today than I planned to.

I have a classic beer belly -- but I don't drink alcohol. Like some others on the list, I get big front to back -- not side to side. It's awful.

I am older than you, but my history is sort of the same. I have lost and regained 35 pounds in less than a year. I lost 50 pounds with Nutrisytem 3 years ago. I don't know whether participating in the message boards can be helpful, but I am trying it too. I just started on Sunday, July 7. Good luck! Are you using a…

Rain, rain go away. I walk outdoors usually, but went to the mall to walk today.

I started late, but I'm up to 8. Vaca tion i coming -- with lots of hiking I hope.

I'm in, but starting late. Does anyone have a suggestion for a pedometer?

That's encouraging. I am a yoyo dieter. I always get to goal, then 6 months or a year later, I'm back up. But I'm not giving up and giving in. This time, I figure I need to eat real food so I can keep eating the same way for my whole life. I love seeing all the positive results.

I just started and I know what you mean about the shock of reality when you see how many calories some things can cost you. Good luck with jogging. Today I walked for a long time (I'm a nature person and have to walk along a stream at least once a week :)) and was surprised to see that calories were added to my total --…

Hello. I'm new too. This is my first day. I don't know whether I am organized enough to remember to post every meal. Good luck.
-
I like the idea of planning ahead and posting the meals for the next day. I'm used to putting the menus for when I'm having a lot of people over on the fridge, so that will work for me. How do you get the weight loss tickers? I haven't really looked around the site yet.

Twenty pounds in two months sounds really great. I hope I can keep remembering to log everything.

Thanks for the ideas, everybody. I know I did well on a very restrictive diet, but I think w/ MFP I can eat real food and still lose weight. I need to look for a food scale; I hadn't thought of that.

Your success is inspiring -- so don't worry about posting often. You look wonderful, and getting your BMI down is fantastic. You'll have lots of years to enjoy a healthy body. Congrats!

I love this thread. Just for today, I won't fall back into my diet coke habit, and I will appreciate having clean water to drink right at hand.

I am new.. sort of. I had a hard time starting. Now I am really focused. I started on my goal of giving up diet Coke for February.. Three days in and doing ok. I had a horrendous headache the first night. I'd like to lose 8 pounds by the end of the month, and since I just started, that might happen. Created by…

I'm starting I guess low carb. At work, everyone is doing the Ideal Protein, but it seems so restrictive. Carbs are a trigger food for me...as in I really can't eat just one. I am really new..I don't know how to "add" anyone.

Portion control and moderation. I might post those words in my kitchen! My problem is that if one cookie is good, then ten would be awesome. :( I'd like to lose 50 pounds, so I am in this for the long haul.

I'm new too. I'm not sure what I want to do. I lost about 45 pounds on Nutri-system, but gained it back. I am just cutting calories now, but I think I might want to do Atkins.
