  • I usually drink a glass of water and then wait a half hour. If I'm still hungry after that, I eat. A lot of times the "hunger" goes away with water and time, because (for me at least) it's not about actual hunger, but more about just wanting to eat. Also, find some good healthy snacks or desert substitutes. I love having a…
  • Lose slowly (allowing the skin to adapt), weight train to tighten the muscles (apparently that helps the skin too), and moisturize to make sure you're skin is in it's best shape. I would say also eat lots of fresh fruits and veggies, because all the vitamins in them really help you have healthier skin and hair.
  • I used to think it was the weight, but I have a friend who is a good 100 pounds heavier than me (which is HEAVY) and she has always had guys going after her. She's now married, but before she would go out with 2 or 3 different guys a week. Now there are some guys who will stay away fromm over weight women, but she had NO…
  • Even with a small stomach, it is easy to up your calories. a PB & J has 300 or more calories! add some olive oil to what you're cooking and you've added 100 + calories with just a table spoon. A little avocado or cheese quickly adds calories.
  • That was the first thing I checked :(
  • This one used to do + or - 0.2 of a lb sometimes, but 9 pounds is HUGE. Maybe it's time to get analog.
  • Well, I replaced the batteries, and it didn't fix the problem. Any other suggestions?
  • I always wait for the zeros before stepping on it. I think it's probably the battery...now I'm hoping it doesn't show some massive gain when I replace the battery.
  • Thanks. I'll try getting a new battery.
  • I did week 1 day 1 today...we'll see how I do. I'm excited about it.
  • Congrats! I remember when I hit one-derland. I called my mom. I actually cried I was so happy. Keep up the great work!!!
  • I would say don't even bring the bad foods into the house. If I'm going to have something sweet or junk food, I have to go out to get it, and I just don't (and your son just can't).If you decide that the family can have a treat, buy just enough for the family to have one serving so there's not more food sitting around…
  • I like to make omelettes and breakfast burritos on the weekend. I also sometimes make breakfast potatoes with eggs and turkey sausage mixed in it along with veggies. Cheese blintzes with fresh fruit are also yummy.
  • I bought one without the chest strap at first...the calories burned could NOT have been accurate...30 minutes on an elliptical and I only burned 10 calories? No matter what I did, it didn't work. I bought the Polar FT4 and I love it. I never even notice the chest strap. They're really comfortable.
  • I have spent the last 5 Thanksgivings alone (probably more)...my family is 1200 miles away and I can't afford to go there for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. I tend to spend the holidays (other than Christmas) alone. It does get depressing. I hope you have a great day regardless!
  • Apples or sugar free apple sauce, pumpkin and pumpkin pie spice, just about any kind of fruit. Carrot cake oatmeal is yummy. I haven't tried chocolate oatmeal yet, but plan to. I prefer to make steel cut oats (they're a little better for you). I make them in the crock pot with flavoring already in them then freeze…
  • I love yellow curry and Tom Ka-Kai soup. I would suggest using the recipes above, but I also add extra Turmeric, Ginger, Siracha (hot sauce that has a rooster on the bottle), substitute light Coconut milk, and then add tofu and lots of veggies.
  • I started at 222 and am now down to about 175-180 (I got down to 169 and then got off track...now back on). I still have A LOT to lose as I'm only 5'1. Feel free to add me.
  • I agree...take her to a doctor/nutritionist. But until then (I know it can take time to get an appointment) here's what I found: So, it looks like 1600 is still on the high side, but you don't want to change too quickly. Even if she's at the size of a 6 year old, her highest caloric intake would be 1600. Caloric needs jump…
  • I've had chronic kidney infections and kidney stones for the last few years. You'll feel better probably within a week (depending on your body it could be 3 days or a week) and then you can eat normally again. The biggest thing is to make sure you stay hydrated...lots of water, no soda or coffee (or even tea), and a few…
  • You will have loose skin. I've lost 50 pounds and have a little, but not too much...yet. I still have 50 or so to lose so I'm sure I will have loose skin. I'm losing slowly as I was told that gives the skin time to adjust (I've been working on weight loss since January and really a bit before that). Make sure you…
  • This is only my opinion based on what I've gone through, but I think you should up the intensity of your workouts. Part of what you're considering workout is just walking around, and for most of us, that's just part of our day. On a normal day, I walk around about 4 miles a day not including any work out. You should really…
  • You're probably overestimating the amount of calories you burn. I got both a HRM and a FitBit and have found that I burn A LOT less calories than MFP says I would and even less than the cardio machines tell me. For instance, my workout today MFP would have said I burned 1200 calories or so but my FitBit and HRM said I…
  • In response to the "dainty eater" comment- For me it wasn't a matter of how much I ate, but what I ate. Today I don't feel great and have had a hard time getting 1200 calories in (Usually I do better) Now before I started trying to get healthy I could eat those 1200 calories with a combo at some fast food joint (or really…
  • I'm a teacher as well and have been in several districts in both California and Arizona. The guidelines for "healthy" food sold at school are not as good as people think. Our schools have free breakfast and lunch for students (because of our socio-economic status). I start my classes (band) when they open for breakfast and…
  • I put myself through 9 years of college working in a restaurant. I usually didn't eat during the shift if I could avoid it (I didn't want to miss out on tables and therefore MONEY). There's always SOMETHING that you can have if you have to eat. Otherwise, bring in a protein bar. You said they let you do that. There are…
  • Some fast things that aren't too bad: - fruit and a boiled egg, -Quakers Weight Control Oatmeal (takes 1 minute in the microwave), -Jimmy Dean Breakfast D'Lites, -steel cut oats that you make ahead of time (I like to add apples or pears for sweetness and flavor), -Turkey Sausage (although it has a lot of sodium), -Cereal…
