I have a protein shake every morning. My tummy doesn't like solid food too early in the day.

It's called the 3 week stall. Not 100% of people experience but A LOT of people do. The thing is, it's unlikely you are consuming more than 600 calories a day at this point. Many are still in the 400-450 range. There's no way you can be eating that little and not losing weight. BUT there is a way that the scale won't show…

But if you do want to know how many I burn... It's between 1450 and 2000 a day. Depending on how active I am. Most people I know who had WLS are middle-aged women who go to the gym or otherwise workout about 3x a week and do something of moderate intensity. And their maintenance calories are anywhere from…

It doesn't matter what we do. Yo uhave to figure out how many calories you are burning and then don't eat more than that (on average). And what I burn isn't what you burn. There are a couple of ways to figure this out. One way is to get your Resting Metabolic Rate tested. You breath into a machine for 10 minutes while…

In studies on starvation, it took a long time for the participants to get to the point where their metabolisms had lowered by 40%. I think it was 6 months but it might have been sooner (can't get to my resource materials to look it up). But it was MONTHS not DAYS and certainly not 1 day of lowered calories. Plus, these…

Greek yogurt! I add my own fruit to control the sugar. I also like to bake and I'm working on coming up with healthier versions of my favorites.

I eat out a lot (except lately because money is tight) and I lost a ton of weight and have been maintaining for a couple of years now. IMO there is no such thing as Good Food vs. Bad Food. Every fast food place my family goes to, there is at least one item on the menu that fits into my nutritonal goals. For example, at…

I heard it's when you are ovulating. But according to this article, it varies all the time: http://www.livestrong.com/article/295115-calories-burned-while-on-your-period/

Hey, what's up everyone? I'm still tracking but I am not as accurate as I used to be. I keep forgetting to put stuff down and remembering it later.

At 3 weeks post-op, it's almost impossible to eat more than that. Here on MFP you will have people tell you over and over that you MUST eat your exercise calories because we have to fuel our bodies. But what they don't seem to understand is that we do have a good source of energy -- our body fat! The body doesn't refuse to…

I weigh daily. Okay, I probably miss a few days here and there. But mostly every day. It keeps me accountable. Plus, studies show that daily weighers maintain their weight loss better. The only exception is that there was a two week period in there where daily weighing made me nuts so I had dh hide my scale and just bring…

I'm 3.5 years out and I'm very happy I have the sleeve. I feel like a normal person for the most part. The only difference is that I can't choose to gorge myself. One bite too many and it's all over! But I don't have to worry about eating something that agreed with me one day but doesn't the next like people with bypass…

I use it in baking. (I rarely eat peanut butter anyway.) I like how it bakes better than regular peanut butter! I order mine online from various sources. Would love to find a local source.

Happy Birthday, Barbie! The people who administer the benefits at my old company are so incompetent. First they cancelled my health insurance even though I'd paid my bill on time. Then I called and they said they'd reinstate them and call me when it was done and send me a new certificate of coverage. But they didn't. I…

The best way to calibrate a scale is to put something that's a known weight on it and see what it says. Like a 10 pound bag of dog food or 5 lb. bag of flour. But it really doesn't matter. Pick one and stick to it so you know how many pounds you've lost. We don't have an LCD display on our forehead so no one knows what the…

When I was working out, I easily got 7000-10000 steps. The days I didn't were long bike ride days (so no stepping was happening, just pedal stroking). But now I average about 5000. I hope to go back to walking at lunch again starting next week so we'll see what that does to my step count.

I am now a confirmed geek. I am making cake pops for my son's Magic the Gathering tournament and I'm going to use different colored sprinkles to make them look like "mana icons" from the game. Though I guess I'm a total geek because I don't know what "mana" means. I just know people will look at them and say "Magic, the…

Hi everybody! I'm 3.5 years out and just plugging along. It's nice to see some new members.

Both. It depends on the recipe. Mostly I do add water so I can measure it out to match the recipe. But sometimes I just add the powder.
-
I use PB2 in all my baking. I like how it bakes better than regular peanut butter! Lori - PB2 is a powdered peanut butter that has a lot of the oil removed. You add water to get it back to peanut butter status. I buy it online.

The 1 g of protein per pound of body weight only works for people who are a normal weight. If you weigh 300 pounds (as an example), you don't need 300 g of protein because probably half of that is fat. I was told to get 1 g of protein per pound of *goal* weight and some sites say per pound of lean body mass. This is only…

Yeah, when I was eating 120 g a day, I was also eating 1200 calories a day. No one specifically said that was okay but my surgeon did say "keep doing what you are doing" so it was implied, right?

I'm bored at work. Sigh.

Well I've got fat cells in my pani -- the kind that won't go away even if they are completely deflated. I guess that's a disadvantage of waiting until you're older to have the surgery -- more fat cells. Also, I don't like wearing shapeware that much. Plus I am in athletic workout type clothes a lot and they show…

So your clothes don't fit better?

Posting just to mark my spot. :flowerforyou:

I think it's more dangerous too. Because of being under anesthesia so long.

I agree with her about the calories but not the protein. There is no evidence that eating protein will dehydrate you. Now, eating "too much" protein can be hard on the kidneys but when we say "too much" we're talking about mega doses. Not 1 g per lb of body weight or less. My program generically recommends staying under…

They only work a small set of muscles. They cause you to flex the back which is bad for your back. If you do them wrong (and most people do) not only do you risk hurting your back, but they aren't even working the small set of muscles they can work enough to make it worth the time to do them.

There are some studies showing that taking ibuprofen (advil) OR acetaminophen (tylenol) for muscle soreness will lessen your fitness gains. There are some other reasons not to take them as well but that's the biggie for me. I think another reason is that pain is a good behavior regulator. If you are getting shin pain while…
