  • I've done low carb, low cal, low whatever.....I actually found that after the first few days on low carb, I felt great and had lots of energy. I can't do that anymore because I find that I binge on carbs the second I go off it and gain everything I lost back. To answer your question....I believe that when you are eating…
  • cut a small piece off for today, fit it into your calories and put the rest in your freezer or throw it away. I used to be part of the 'finish what's on your plate' generation but not anymore. I've worked hard to be where I am and I'm not going to feel guilty about not eating an entire cake :) next time I would agree to…
  • I did the C25K program as a full time one pack per day smoker :) I would regularily run 5k's a couple times per week plus do bootcamp 3 days per week. I'd have already had 3 cigarette's before my 9am bootcamp class!! In all honesty, I think I pushed myself harder BECAUSE I was a smoker. I am 45 days smoke free and am…
  • Congratulations!! I am on day 45 of being smoke free....:):):) I was a pack per day smoker and quit cold turkey. It was ugly, but I am well past the worst of it and am so grateful to not be a slave to it anymore!! Plus, I've saved over $400 in just a month and a half! Holy Sh^t!! :) You can do this! There is a Quitting…
  • Great to know! Easing my way down starting today! :)
  • thanks for the advice everyone!! it's all very helpful :) going to back to Sarah, I haven't changed my ticker but I've gained 10 lbs in the last 5 weeks. based on the numbers, I'd say about 6of that is actual weight gain....and 3% bodyfat :( I had thought that my TDEE was around 2100-2300 per day but I'm actually thinking…
  • I actually had the opposite problem....I think that I pushed it harder in the gym and running BECAUSE I was a smoker. Perhaps I thought it wasn't so bad to smoke if I could run a 5k, etc. I almost figured that as soon as I quit, the clouds would part and I could easily run a 10k, taste everything, breathe easier, and so…
  • I never thought of it that way....I'm an all or nothing kinda girl. Maybe aim for 2200 this week and 2000 next week. I still shake my head and laugh at that! I LOVE that I've found this lifestyle, and thank you Lucia for your dedication on getting the word out and saving so many women like myself who thought they'd have to…
  • bump....just what i need today!
  • Start with a nutrient dense healthy breakfast....omelete with cheese and avocado with toast and butter. That'll get it up there! I've also recently become addicted to a half/half steel-cut oats, quinoa breakfast. I make it with milk, honey and cinnamon. Eat it with a half banana and that will also add up quickly as well.…
  • Thanks for the tips! Actually, your desk drawer looks like mine! LOL My problem is that it seems to be non-stop snacking lately....!! :)
  • I would also add that if you're not weighing or measuring your foods, you may want to do that for a bit. You may be eating more calories than you think if you're adding things like nuts and seeds especially. You'd be surprised at how small the portion sizes are! :)
  • I am 42 days smoke free! I was a pack per day smoker and quit cold turkey as well. It wasn't easy, and it sure wasn't pretty!! It took me a few weeks to start feeling like a normal human being again, plus I made the mistake of substituting my nicotine cravings with sugar (to get that 'high/rush' I think). That perpetuated…
  • Wow way to go! I am 42 days quit....It has become much easier, and it's not constantly nagging on my mind. How did your night out go? We had a group of 11 go out for dinner on Saturday night, and 5 of the 8 smokers of this group have all quit when I did. Most of us did it together, but 3 of us still smoke. I have to admit…
  • Congrats!! Day 2 was the absolute hardest for me....my friends' had a challenge on day 3. Keep at it! It gets easier :) My stats: 42 days, 12 hrs, 17 min 850 not smoked and saved $382 :)
  • really??? that is probably one of the more ridiculous things I've ever heard of!! I know SO many people who live high risk lifestyles....and they are hetero...go figure!
  • 37 days 751 cigs not smoked $338.02 saved! :)
  • yes the Allan Carr book is amazing!! plus there are a few websites that have been helpful for people too. just Google quit smoking and you'll see some support sites. www.whyquit.com is one I believe. unfortunately I am hearing more and more about smoking related illnesses in my age group (40), and not chancing one of these…
  • Yes it really does suck!! However, once you get past a lot the expected 'relapse' stages, it gets easier as you go along. I was told last night that there are a few time frame hurdles. 3 days, 3 weeks and 3 months. Seems to be the consensus based on some of the posts in regard to cravings and caving. I am a few days into…
  • Awww don't despair! I had decided to go cold turkey and muscle through the discomfort for the first few days....OMG it was difficult!! I don't think that I would do that again should I ever have to! LOL I had tried the gum a few years ago and it burned my cheek. I didn't like it at all. I also tried the Nicorette inhaler.…
  • 23 days and 30 minutes...lol Still think about it a lot but not so much as a craving. when I actually think about lighting a cigarette, I know it would taste gross. there truly were only a few of my 20 per day that I really enjoyed. the rest were just necessities I suppose :) I was really hoping that I had a solid plan in…
  • This was me too!! I was very defensive about smoking. no one could tell me what to do, and I name off tons of healthy people who smoke! lol I'm on day 18 and am only JUST starting to feel like a human being again ...it's been a difficult and strange road. your husband's support will help immensely, as well as support…
  • Yep, there's always something! My husband and I are a second time arounder's as well, and have a blended family and ex's and court dates to go with it too! LOL There are really great resources out there which help change your mindset. Allan Carr's Easy Way to Quit Smoking is and incredible tool!!! It really resonates with…
  • Omg I can SO relate!! I had just commented this morning that I feel really tired lately and didn't know why, and my husband said that it's probably really draining to be such a B+*&H!! haha He said it lovingly of course :) And truth be told, I am very lucky and grateful to have such an understanding family! My 8 year old…
  • Yay!! Happy Smokiversary! :) I am on day 15 of quitting cold turkey. I am just today starting to feel like a normal human being again....it's been a pretty rough ride!! Congrats to you and everyone doing the same!!
  • don't worry about it....that happens to everyone now and then. you are here to make a lifestyle change, not crash diet. the key is consistancy and smart choices overall. eat a low calorie sensible dinner later and start tomorrow fresh. no biggie! One day over isn't going to derail your efforts. btw, what are your calorie…
  • ^^This!! I'm soon to be 41, and wish I had just enjoyed the body I had in my 20's instead of stressing about what wasn't perfect! After kids it's a whole new ball game, so enjoy! I am probably in better shape than I was in my 20's now, and continue to strive for health and strength over how I look physically. Don't get me…
  • I've done that a few times...even walked around the block since I was already bundled up :). It does help but I was still ultra irritated! lol. I'd just go and hide somewhere with a book for a bit. they all knew to leave me alone. Haha
  • I'm in Ontario as well and am heading out for my run shortly :) My feet and face are usually the only things that get cold...
