  • i don't think it's health related because I just had my physical and got bloodwork last month.
  • Great job!! I can't imagine doing your fastest mile...on the last mile...uphill!! Impressive!
  • I'm in for 50. I should be hitting 100, but I'm not there yet, so I will start with an attainable goal and hope to build from there :) Nice to be back!
  • Pacing is something that I am currently working on myself. When I am trying to go out for a easy or long run and I need to slow down, I have only found two things that work for me...hills and slow music. If I can't get myself to calm down just by trying to run slower, then I hit the side of my neighborhood that is hilly…
  • Thanks! Signing up for a flat course soon is exactly what I was thinking! Too bad my favorite flat PR course is holding it's 5K the same day as my sister's wedding. I'm the matron of honor so I have to be there that morning to help her get ready (is it bad that I've been running through my head possible ways I can still do…
  • I got a pr! Only by a few seconds but I'll take it! New pr is 28:14
  • Not sure what you should use for your half...but Injinji toe socks work great for minimizing blisters in rainy, wet conditions. My favorite socks outside of those would be Balega hidden comfort.

  • You were dehydrated, because that's what happens when you lose water, but it doesn't sound like you were at the point of medical emergency or anything. That being said...one of the symptoms of dehydration is weakness/light-headedness and that can certainly make it more difficult to run. As you stated, hydration is a…
  • It's not a good idea to run with a fever because exercise/running will just make your temp go even higher. If you don't have a fever later and the sickness is just from your neck up you should be ok to run assuming you still feel like it. Sickness from the neck down is generally a no-go. Hope you feel better soon!
  • I have a 5K coming up on Saturday. I am not looking to PR because it has hills and my current and previous PR are on extremely flat courses. However, it would be amazing to break 30 minutes on a course with hills as I have never done that. My best time on a hilly course was around 31 minutes so I'll be looking to go under…
  • April Fools?! ;) Cute story...lol!
  • Congrats to you and your son! Sounds like an awesome race...except for that whole Tennesee Volunteer Stadium part  I wish they would let us run on the field in Athens...but the finish there is just a lap AROUND the inside of the stadium. Still cool though.
  • If you feeling absolutely fantastic after your first half, then you could probably go with plan 1. I personally would not be able to do either of them. 2 weeks isn't a lot of time in between and I personally need more time to recover and rest than either of those plans allowed. If it were me I would probably do an 8 mile…
  • Great times in all of the races--congrats! And also I can only imagine how amazing it must have been to see Legat setting the record. Sounds like an amazing day :)
  • Oh no! Please don't tell me this...lol! I got my garmin because my nike plus app was so unreliable. If it was cloudy at all it would tell me I had done 7 miles when I knew it was only 3 (yes it was that bad!). My garmin hasn't lied to me yet, but I haven't had it very long so I'm hoping that day doesn't come. I know…
  • The other day I ran 4 miles at a 10 min pace, which was steady state per mcmillan and I was pushing and it was what I would consider a tempo. I guess I didn't really realize a tempo could be less than 2 miles so that is good know. I just always figured they were about 2-4 miles, even though I know some people do much…
  • LOL! No runner girl or bubbly numbers...but I do have a magnet with my running group's name on my car (Moms RUN this Town) and the letters are pink ;) I also have TWO 13.1s on my car, one is a magnet...the other is a sticker specifically for ATHhalf because...it was Athens...and I'm a bulldawg...duh! :D
  • Not really...the training times it gives for my 5k PR 28:18 seem really fast to me. The easy pace is ok. The slow end of the long run pace seems ok, but the tempo is what scares me :/
  • Are you racing each of the 5Ks full force? Or are you holding back a little since there are 4 of them? I would think if you are not racing for a PR then the few seconds you would shave by wearing your flats would not make that much of a difference. You could always wear your flats for the first one or 2 as suggested above…
  • great information Dave! That has been my biggest struggle. I am getting a little faster because my mileage is picking up, but in my head on race day I am still slow...I get so nervous I will run out of gas that I am scared to push. I'm thinking the only way I pr'd my last 5K was because they shouted go (small race) when I…
  • Hi :) I'm Lori. I've been running for about 2 years. I did several 5Ks, but was not able to run one all the way through until Sept. 2012. My time was 30:29. I'm not sure what happened, but that would remain my p/r for several months. I finally broke 30 last April with a time of 29:23 on an extremely flat course. I wasn't…
  • Good luck on the chickfila half. I'll be doing Athhalf in Athens in October. :) There is the twisted ankle half in Summersville, GA in May, but I think that's over an hour from Atlanta...northwest GA...
  • I'm very interested. I've fallen in love with 5Ks and am focused right now on improving my times. I would like to get into 10Ks next. I have ran a few halfs and plan on running 2 more in the fall, but the 5k is where my heart is right now. :) *edit to add...i would categorize myself as intermediate, not experienced. I've…
  • As far as your first question...I have no idea. Your second question though...I don't think that it is safe to draw that conclusion. My husband and I both work outside of the home and we have very different meals for breakfast and lunch. We also have very different snacking behaviors. Even though we eat pretty much the…
  • I sprained my ankle 6 weeks before my last half marathon. I could not run on it until 2 weeks before the half and it was still painful so they were very short, slow runs (except the 10 mile race I did 2 weeks before the HM, that I also did very slowly and walked a lot of--because I did not want to let someone down--another…
  • I'm scared to do a downhill race...won't that shred your quads? I guess that is only if you are holding back though...I agree it would be fun to go super fast downhill the whole time! Good luck with the trek up! :)
  • I never eat before long runs because I would have to wake up too early...usually just roll out of bed for my 5:30am runs. But...I used to not eat before races--any race, 5k, half, whatever. I would eat clif shot blocks or gu chomps. For my last few races, I started eating half of a piece of peanut butter toast and I felt…
  • Also this...I don't play chicken with cars anymore. I used to be stubborn and think I had every right to be there and they should see me. Then I read an article about a runner getting mowed over in clear daylight. Now I've started thinking, what if the driver is texting or turn around to check on their kids in the back…
  • Yes. I live in Georgia and you cannot run on the road (if there is sidewalk present) if there is car within 100 feet of you. A friend of mine got a warning from an officer for this the other day. I only run on the sidewalk on very busy streets. This is why I do my long runs VERY early on the weekends. So I can have the run…
  • I totally do this! I would run up and down my street just to get the extra distance because I had to be even...if not even then it had to be 3.12 or 6.2 so it would be even in kilometers...ha! I am trying to get past my OCD now. My friend was in shock the other day when I stopped at 5.98...she was like "are you seriously…
