Hi, I started going to the gym recently and had a trainer set my programme up after my induction. He said that carbs are the body's main energy source and are important, especially if you're going to the gym. I'm not surprised you don't feel like going if you've almost cut carbs out of your diet, you'll probably have very…

Gin and slimline tonic, 56 calories per glass :)

I've made sure everyone knows I don't want anything to do with chocolate! :)
-
Gin and slimline tonic, with ice and a wedge of lime... looooovely :D 56 calories!

The type of fat to be concerned about is saturated fat. I would really recommend not going over your daily allowance. When it comes to dressings for salads, just look for lower calorie versions - it's surprising how much better for you some of the "lighter" dressings are, yet they taste just as good as the full fat ones :)

This is a great quote and made me laugh :)

I've basically worked out what my weight should be based on my height to get my BMI down to 25 so it's in the "healthy" range. That might be a bit too simplistic and, to be honest, my goal weight is a weight I haven't been at since I was about 12 years old! Maybe I'll have to rethink my goal weight later if it looks…

I've had three people mention it to me today, which is great for my motivation! When you see yourself in the mirror every day, you don't really notice the difference. It's great when others do though! :)

As others have said, there's no need to cut out alcohol completely. When I go out I now have gin and slimline tonic instead of beer - it's only around 56 calories per glass! I also have the odd glass of wine. As long as I stay within my calorie goal each day, I think it's fine.

I wouldn't make a habit of it, but it sounds OK to me. Over the week you'll still have had the correct number of calories. I went 1000 over one day last week but was under every other day... I lost 2lbs :)
-
I've just had a bowl of beef and mushroom soup with a nice ciabatta roll :) There were more calories in the roll than the soup!

Welcome! I'm sure you'll find this site and everyone on here really helpful. Good luck!

Hi, As Mandy said above, a heart rate monitor is what you need. I have the exact model she mentioned - the Polar F6 - and it's great. It comes with a chest strap that sends data to the watch and will tell you exactly how many calories you have burned. Cheers, Dan x

I would LOVE to go to Las Vegas! Hope you have a great time :) x

I wouldn't worry about it too much. If your scales are out, they've been out the whole time you've been using them, so you've still lost 91lbs. My scales fluctuate a bit too... I always get on them at least twice - I keep going until it come sup with exactly the same figure twice in a row, then use that as my meausrement.

2lbs a week is great! Think of it this way... if you lose it too quickly, the chances are you'll be losing muscle and not fat. Plus you're more likely to end up with loose skin. Keep doing exactly what you're doing. Looking at your ticker you have 64lbs to go... at 2lbs a week you could be at your goal by next summer! x

You should definitely eat them. I joined my local gym recently and had a consultation with their nutrition expert. He explained that it's important to replace the calories you're burning by eating more, otherwise your body will go into starvation mode.

I change mine quite often but at the moment it's the chorus from Take That's new single, "The Flood" :)

I recently bought a Polar HRM and it's great! I went on a hike up a mountain last week and was able to see that I'd burned 1,875 calories! Absolutely fantastic for motivation. I've started to wear it whilst at the gym, running and playing football.

Wow, fantastic before and after shots! You look great! x

It definitely is Atkins.
-
That is absolutely fantastic and very inspirational! Tomorrow I'll be exactly 8 weeks in - hoping to have broken the 30lb mark! Reading stories like yours is more than enough motivation to keep going! Well done :)

I followed WW for a few months last year and had some success. However, with MFP being completely free I don't see any reason to follow any pay-for plan. In essence WW is exactly the same... you're tracking calories and saturated fat, but using some special calculation so you only worry about "points". With MFP you're…

Hello and welcome! I'm 7 weeks in and 29 pounds lost! I've found the help and support on here to be really helpful, so you've made a great start by signing up. Good luck! x

Absolutely fantastic! What an inspirational before and after!

I agree, it's probably due to you gaining muscle if you're working out 5 days a week. I hit a very similar problem last week... 7 weeks in, stayed under my calorie goal every day, lost every week for the first 6 weeks then I put half a pound on. I was incredibly disappointed! Decided not to let it get me down though...…

As I read your post I couldn't help notice the huge "Cor Blimey!" Groupon ad at the top of the page featuring three GIANT cheeseburgers!

I used to drink red wine at home regularly, as well as a few beers or G&Ts on nights out. I've now practically cut out drinking at home, although I have had the odd glass of red wine as a treat, (staying within my daily calorie goal though). Also, when I go on a night out I now have single gin and slimline tonics. I've…
