  • You're welcome! Good look on your first 5k - if you're anything like me, you are going to be hooked! I've done a 5k every month since completing the program in August, most recently this past Sunday! Most importantly, HAVE FUN!!
  • or RunningintheUSA is another good place to look
  • I usually use coolrunning
  • Yes! I must have played through this game a dozen times!
  • Look at her CRIMPS! I loved my crimper!
  • I think that's awesome!! I wouldn't bother with the camelbaks, just make sure you drink plenty of water in the 48 hours or so leading up to race day (so start now! lol) and you should be fine for the 5k. Most races have water/snacks at the finish, and some have a water station partway through the race. But with the…
  • I know you can do it! I was scared for the one too since it seems like such a huge jump, but if you take it slowly it's really not as scary as your mind makes it out to be :)
  • Well done everyone for getting out there and running today! Now that this is over, I have a Hot Chocolate run in a week and a half to look forward to and I am PSYCHED! That course is going to be a lot hillier than this one was (very flat!!) but I live in a valley and run hills regularly so I'm pretty confident :)
  • Ok! I'm anxious to hear how everyone's races went! It was a chilly 27 degrees out for my race, and I think there were about 400 people there (walkers and runners). I burned myself out on the first mile (I think I was mostly trying to warm up...my toes had gone numb!) by running a 9:14, which is very fast for me!! at the…
  • I don't know if this will help motivate you or not, but out of all the lifestyle changes I have made in the last year and a half, including losing the weight, changing the way I eat and the way I think about eating, getting in shape, etc. - going through and completing the c25k program has by far been the most rewarding…

  • Haha! That's awesome
  • I'm super excited too!! Of course, I forgot to send in my reg form/money, so I will have to register on site, but since it's a smaller race I don't think it will be a problem. Eeeek! 35 is a great time! That's under 12 min miles, and a lot of people start out doing 15-16 min miles. My personal goal is to be under 30…
  • Thanksgiving is one of the few days where I let myself eat pretty much whatever I want (within reason...I'm not going to eat myself sick) because I enjoy being with my family and having a good time and enjoying the good food that everybody helped to cook. I don't feel guilty for it. However! I am going to run a Turkey Trot…
  • That's a great idea, and it's honestly the only (well, mostly) reason that I'm doing a 5k that morning  Because I really, really want stuffing. And pumpkin pie. And gravy. And....and......
  • It's so awesome that so many people are doing 5k's this week! Good luck to you all! Make sure to come back and let us know how awesome you are :)
  • That's so awesome!! I wanted to do the Color Run so badly when it was in Boston, but it was all sold out! You are going to have so much fun! Good luck with both your races!
  • That's great! At that point you're pretty much done with intervals anyway :) let us know how it goes! You are going to have a blast! And then you'll be able to tell everyone who asks how your Thanksgiving was "I ran a 5k, and it was awesome!" Phew, yeah pneumonia can certainly take you out for a while, no fun at all. Glad…
  • Congratulations!! That's wonderful! You should ABSOLUTELY go for it! You'll be so proud of yourself afterwards :) let me know how it goes!
  • Aw that sucks!! I kind of did the same thing...I did a Zombie 5k on Oct. 16th at Six Flags, and it was one of those obstacle course ones where you get flags and the zombies try to take your flags. I knew it was risky signing up for a run like this because I have an old knee injury that is very susceptible to re-injury, but…
  • Honestly I think a huge part of the time improvement was the weather and the terrain. My 1st 5k was actually in August, not Sept (my brain is fuzzy sometimes) and it was around 90 degrees out. I had been training on mostly roads and track, but this was a trail run through lots of grass and soft dirt, and my time definitely…
  • On work days, I drink anywhere just about a gallon of water/tea a day (mostly water, maybe 36oz tea a day). Weekends I tend to not drink nearly as much since I'm usually on-the-go, maybe a half gallon or less.
  • Since I pack lunch and snacks for the day (and typically end up eating all of them...I am perpetually hungry), I tend to log everything as soon as I get into the office in the morning. It makes it easier for me to "budget" my food throughout the day and get a sense of how many calories I will have left for dinner. If you…
  • I graduated c25k last Thursday and ran my first 5k last Saturday! I am already signed up for another 5k on Sept 15 and a third on October 13th...that one is a zombie run with obstacles!! I am going to train to do a 10k in the spring and hopefully a half marathon next fall...very excited!!!
  • Have you tried wearing a simple knee brace? I wear one on my left knee and it helps with pain. You can buy them anywhere - I got mine at CVS for maybe $12
  • At the risk of repeating every other reply on this thread, slow down and try intervals (like C25K...I just completed this program, and can comfortable run 3-5 miles at an 11min mile pace). Also, strength training has tremendously improved my running! Everything - legs, core, arms/shoulders...A stronger, healthier body in…
  • I'm in! I typically do 100 crunches/situps a day, so I will double that today!
  • I am SO proud of you! What a wonderful attitude, thank you for sharing
  • There could be a few problems here. You could possibly need new shoes - if so, I recommend getting fitted. It's also possible your running form is off http://www.active.com/women/Articles/5-Elements-of-Chi-Running.htm If it's not either of those things, it's probably just that your legs aren't used to all the moving! There…
  • I suggest you find a local shoe store that specializes in running shoes. They will analyze your gait and form and suggest a running shoe based on that, and fit you for it. They won't just go for the priciest pair, they will help you choose a pair that is good for your running style. And I would suggest that if the shoe…
