  • What I meant by "isn't enough" is that increasing my calories by only 75 per day probably isn't enough to get me to a 1lb per week weight loss. If this week is any indication, it probably won't even get me to 1.5lbs. I probably need to go up closer to 2,500 per day to get to 1.5lbs. I am probably about 18lbs from goal so…
  • So this week I increased my goal in MFP to the 2,325 and stuck pretty close to that averaging 2316 over the past 7 days. I did underestimate my TDEE a little bit because I was worried about the one +5,000 calorie outlier day in that past average. It seems that wasn't an outlier after all. This week I lost 1.9lbs. The…
  • I recall seeing this product on an episode of Shark Tank!
  • Thanks for all the advice everybody. I went in and tweaked my daily goal a little bit and changed it to 2,325 per day. I had an outlier day where I had 5500 calories (Olive Garden Endless Classics :)) and it was the first day of the two weeks I was using for the new calculation. After removing that outlier, I landed on the…
  • Who said I am ignoring anything? I am wondering if you actually read all of my OP. I am using a food scale to weigh most of my food. I certainly don't think I am underestimating my caloric intake, though it is possible but probably not to the tune of 750 calories a day. I really don't know what exercise calories I would…
  • This isn't a new diet. I have been going at this for over a year. I am down a little over 7lbs in the past month. So I don't think it is water weight as that should have been gone long ago. I may adjust my goal to the 2,500 based on the two weeks of data. Is two weeks of data enough or should I look back a month? I suspect…
  • I picked sedentary in the MFP guided setup. I certainly don't walk over 10,000 steps in a day, even though the ice machine at work is a long way away :) If I account for exercise calories, the machine said I burned 300 calories today running for a little over two miles. Add to that the 300 I burned last week and that is…
  • I do understand that MFP doesn't take exercise in to consideration and I don't log my exercise and I don't intentionally eat back any exercise calories. That said, there is no way I am burning about 750 calories a day every day of the week in exercise. I only exercise three days of the week yet MFP is off by 750 a day?
  • I went to Costco today, had samples and a Hot Dog afterwards and was still under my calorie goal for the day.
  • It still won't cure your pets athletes foot or cause them to grow new limbs. Dogs in the wild (wolves, coyotes) are naturally carnivores. They don't get a lot of carbs in their diet and any they would get are natural from vegetation. Many pet foods these days consist of fillers and byproduct. I don't see why a high protein…
  • This is the Snackwell Effect of the modern era. Kind of like the frozen yogurt of the 90s. Just because it is fat free, or labeled low fat or lite, doesn't mean it is low calorie.
  • It would take a lot of water as well as sustained exercise for this to be an issue for most people.
  • Odd how everyone is different. I don't like flavored water, no LaCroix garbage, no squirt in flavorings, no soda. Just plain old delicious water! I love it.
  • I like the Premier Protein bars. Costco has a variety pack with Peanut Butter Crunch, Dark Chocolate Mint Crisp and Salted Caramel. I am not a big fan of the Caramel ones, but really like the Peanut Butter and Chocolate Mint. 30g protein each.
  • Perhaps not with how it is processed, but rather how the soy bean is grown. Soy beans are among the most genetically modified agricultural crop. Modified to allow for the farmers to be able to spray large amounts of herbicides on it to increase yield. I am not stating that there are any proven links between this and…
  • I weighed in the morning of Thanksgiving at 210lbs. This morning after two days of food and leftovers I was up 8.7lbs! That isn't unusual, I can easily gain 18lbs on a two week vacation. Since much of my eating on Thursday and Friday was carbs, much of that 8.7lbs is water weight. Though it is possible that about 2lbs of…
  • I ate, I didn't log and I know I went way over. Too much mashed potatoes, salad, dressing, turkey and desserts. It is a single day. Perhaps another with leftovers. I didn't gain all my weight in a day, I won't lose it all in a day. I have had other days like this along the way and I am still down 55lbs this year and over a…
  • If you have a lot to lose and MFP is setting you up with a 1000 calorie daily deficit, losing weight without a food scale will be easier. The larger the deficit, the higher the margin of error. It is when you get to a 250 or 500 daily deficit that it becomes more important to use a scale. Just a slight inaccuracy can wipe…
  • I would say that if you are already at or over your calorie goal for the day, log it on the next day so you better balance out over the two day period. If you log it for the first day and are over and then hit your calorie goal on the second day, you will be over your goal for the two day period. However if you add it to…
  • A sore throat is the worst part of a cold. I can handle the congestion and cough, but a sore throat makes getting through the day just miserable. I haven't found any medications that work well to help sore throat symptoms.
  • You may want to wait until you are at maintenance for a year. Chances of long term success are not always that high. Just like gym membership aren't a proven method to guaranty you will go to the gym. getting rid of all your old clothes is not a guaranty that you won't gain the weight back. You really don't want to have to…
  • My 3/4 of a gallon of milk turned out about 5 cups of whey and perhaps 6 or so cups of yogurt. I will perhaps freeze some of the whey to save it for another use down the road. Any idea how long whey will keep in the refrigerator? I like the idea of making refried beans. I usually buy the cans of that, but they have a much…
  • I know it isn't a restaurant, but I prefer my homemade double fried french fries. Fry them at a low temp (325) for ten minutes then up the temp to 375-400 and fry for two to three to crisp them up. They make the best poutine you have ever had! I rarely eat french fries from a restaurant any more.
  • I didn't consider using powdered milk, I just used about 3/4 of a gallon of whole milk. I will probably just use the whole gallon the next time as I was worried about filling my Crock Pot too full this first time. I didn't have any issues with needing to insert the probe thermometer. I just used an instant read and checked…
  • They whey had a lot of protein in it, that protein is at 4 calories a gram, so you have to consider the removal of the whey. The hard part to calculate is how much lactose (sugar), also at 4 calories a gram, is consumed by the bacteria. Kind of the same when putting sugar in to bread with yeast. The yeast consumes the…
  • This may seem good the fist time or two, but you may not welcome it the more it happens. There was a recent thread on this topic, here was one of the links posted to that thread. https://www.runnersworld.com/running-while-female
  • I was thinking the same thing originally. I thought, why waste newbie gains while lifting in a deficit. I thought, why not get down to a lower BF and then start lifting in a surplus so those newbie gains would show. The problem is that one loses a lot of muscle mass while in a deficit and not lifting. If you are very…
