  • You have to decide one way or another what you want more, the cupcake or the workout. IMO ONCE and awhile going over because you ENJOYED a cupcake is totally fine. BUT don't say anyone forced you to do it. No one held a gun to your head and shoved it in your mouth. ONLY YOU decide what you put in your body. I have plenty…
  • I don't lose at 1200 calories a day either, it makes my brain foggy too. You MIGHT see a gain the first week but stick with it and likely after your body adjusts to it you'll start to lose again. Remember the important thing is the NET calories, so don't just eat 1500 calories and work out and burn 500 (otherwise you'll…
  • I first started with a round number to lose (LOL) It put me at 165 because I liked the number. As I've gotten closer I began to look at BMI etc to determine my goal, which is now 159 the VERY top of healthy BMI. I figure after I reach a healthy BMI then the toning and working out are what I will focus on and not the scale…
  • If you eat less than 1200 calories MFP will give you that notice. That said the MORE important number is your NET calories for the day, MOST (not all but most) people will find that long term they won't lose weight if they NET less than 1200 calories, which is why so many people harp on eating exercise calories back. Your…
  • Another popular one is HRM= Heart Rate Monitor also if you see someone say 40/30/30, that's the ratio for carbs, fat and protein.
  • Eating back your exercise calories does not make you gain weight (assuming you track them properly). It FUELS your body to heal the microtears you create working out. Your body needs it to build itself up. Definitely start measuring your food out, it's VERY easy to over estimate just a little bit on everything. Make mini…
  • 50lbs? When did you start? that's a big goal and even at 2lbs a week you'd need 25 weeks (6 months!) to lose that. It's taken me almost a year to drop 68lbs. So don't sell yourself short, 8lbs is something to be proud of. It's a start. This is a long long journey. Be sure you are eating enough (minimum NET calories need to…
  • This is something that is on my list as well. The best thing is to reach maintenance and be there for a year to two before doing it (so many people "relapse" in that time on weight). There is a weight which the doctor(s) may recommend you be at before considering it too, most overweight people have to lose to be safe for…
  • I can run farther and longer on the treadmill, also my speed is faster on the treadmill BUT training on the ground is important for road races because the world is not a smooth belt. So your body makes tons of micro corrections for sidewalks and road changes that it doesn't need to on the treadmill. Without my treadmill I…
  • Fresh LOCAL produce is best because it is the freshest, not forced to ripen with zillion chemicals and then trucked across the country in fuel guzzling trucks. They tend to be left on the vine/tree/bush longer to actually ripen there. Support the local farmer :D But after fresh local produce, always pick frozen over canned…
  • 1. Once you get into a routine you'll have a good idea how many calories you will burn for a particular exercise so you can eat back some of your calories before you do the workout. 2. Don't drink, seriously, no one but you decides what you put in your body and if you're friends are going to stop hanging out with you…
  • There's actually several studies that have shown you're better off to do less exercise each day, and then do it more days. It's less of a shock to your body to do it every day, so long term you tend to be healthier than doing it 1 hour a day less days.
  • I actually don't have a problem avoiding junk food in general anymore, it makes me feel crummy to eat it so I don't. I just like the idea of someone planning out a month or 6 weeks worth of my ENTIRE life in food so I don't have to think about it much and just know "Okay I'm eating this for 6 weeks and nothing else". I…
  • Oh definitely checking out that carb cycling. I'm just wanting to prep myself for working on that specific area as the fat comes off I want to see the results. I know carbs is a big issue for the belly fat and I'm willing to work hard to get what I want, I'm not even looking for a 6pack exactly just flat and firm, the…
  • I agree, those people don't work jobs, deal with their families during that time.
  • Only unmarried people assume that happily married people aren't having sex ;)
  • Not a guy but I've been happily married to one for 9 1/2 years (LOL). IMO it ebbs and flows and we have a very active "cuddle" life ;) Very rarely do we have a spell where we don't have it 3-4 times a week but it happens, stress, work, feeling sick, tired etc, can all be part of it. It's not a big deal really and if you…
  • I take the entire recipe of marinade and then if I put in 4 (4-6oz) chicken breasts divide it evenly. It's probably more marinade than I actually eat since you toss quite a bit that doesn't actually soak into the chicken (etc) but it's the easiest way for me to guess at it.
  • Rest day is a bit of a misnomer IMO. What it really means is a rest for THAT muscle group or that type of muscle. Today I don't run, I upper body weights and sometimes I swim on my "rest" day from running. On the flip side then there are days where I don't do weights to "rest" those muscles.
  • I'm a nursing student too. I started last August weighing 242lbs, I'm now down to 174. YOU CAN DO IT! I only work out 30 min a day (5-6 days a week) I don't have time for more, to add on to school I have a 4.5 year old son and a husband, plus work part time. I read on the elliptical machine on days I do that and then I'm…
  • I cried when I finished W5D2 yesterday!!!
  • Tummy, everything else has really fallen into line for me but that tummy is driving me nuts (part of that is I'm a mom :/ ) I swear I only have about 15lbs left to go and it all needs to come off my tummy :( I don't even really have love handles either it's all right in front :(
  • LOL! I'm a nursing student and I LOVE having guys in the class. They bring a different perspective and don't do the catty bull**** many women do.
  • Technically none. Being under today doesn't mean you get to "eat" extra tomorrow. That said it's not really a big deal IMO do to it once and awhile, just log EACH day properly and you'll notice your weekly total will still probably be in line with the weekly goal for calories. Time to start learning some other coping…
  • Are you talking about the Depo shot (it's every three months) and it is the one form of birth control PROVEN to cause some weight gain, plus if used for more than 2 years it starts to make women lose bone mass. You should definitely work out and eat healthy to try and counteract the effects but for some women it's not…
  • MFP's default for protein is actually too low for most people so I purposely try to be over on that. If you search the forums you'll find this to be one of the biggest "complaints" and many people up their protein, which does help weight loss.
  • If you can't invest in a heart rate monitor (HRM) then I suggest not eating your exercise calories back (Or only eating half of them) and then saving for a HRM. It really makes the difference long term to REALLY know what you're burning so you CAN eat those exercise calories back which when you're burning a lot of them is…
  • Neither honestly. I know it's a broken record but a HRM is the only way to really know what you're burning. It depends on your height, weight, sex, fitness level and a HRM would be just for you. Edit: I agree with a previous poster, if you walked 1.06 miles in 19 min you did NOT walk at 5mph (that would be one mile in…
  • Well a plateau is 3 weeks of no loss OR gain. I've never had a plateau, and I started in August last year and am down 68lbs as of yesterday. I have had a week or even 2 with no loss but never 3 (and I only have an older scale so no .5lbs lost, gotta be a whole pound for me to have lost something). I have been VERY diligent…
  • Going into a store and knowing that there are going to be several things I LIKE that I WANT to try on, instead of 2 and I just pick the less bad one. Now I buy things I LOVE!
