Thanks everyone. It is post-op day 2 now and things are much better. The pain and recency of the procedure likely led me to confuse some things. 1) I had two different surgeons, the one who did it was awesome, the one who discharge me (he was being covered by the first one), was not awesome. He came in the room for a…

He was so quick. Said I'd be fine in a day.

There's an awesome book out called "The Glycemic Load Diet" (don't fret about the word diet in there...the book is very well written and basically exists for us insulin resistant folk). I stopped following it and gained back the thirty pounds I had lost in a month :( Now, I'm back on it and it's my second day.

Sounds like a tough period for you. I don't really have any advice because all of our situations are so unique. I do know however, that if people's negativity starts to make you feel unwell it has to change. It has to be confronted, worked on, or left behind. I know, easier said then done but ultimately, people can act…

Whoops. Okay, so I went to the open group and posted my update. Turns out I couldn't even find that for a while until I was pointed toward My Profile and "Recent Posts" section. Okay, so here goes: SW: 228 (August 1st on my own) SW for Challenge: 221 CW: 203.4 It's sooooooooooooo close I can taste it. On September 18 I had…

Hey all, okay so I"m a bit of a dunce on here. I had no idea how to re-find this group lol. So, today being Monday...I weighed in at 203.4!!! My goodness it's so close I can feel it and want it NOW but slow and steady wins the race.

here's a link to shed some light on your question. consider it some "food" for thought: http://www2.macleans.ca/2011/09/20/on-the-evils-of-wheat-why-it-is-so-addictive-and-how-shunning-it-will-make-you-skinny/

Okay. So here's Monday and weigh-in day. I'd like to say I have lost but I haven't. I've plateau'd my whole week and actually went up 1.5 lbs. Although, my blouse now fits me (so I'm losing inches) even though the scale won't budge. I also have been going to the gym this week for the first time religiously, so I might be…

I recommend eating clean: low carbs (like 30grams total for a meal, and 15grams for a snack), low salt (under 1500mg a day), low fat and no processed foods. It's tricky to meet your daily calorie total. Like I'm under 1200 some days but I'm not under eating - it's just hard to get loads of calories when you're eating all…

Hey, I feel your pain. I'm not on 'the other side' of things yet, but I'm making progress emotionally and so far, physically. I have depression and anxiety (they're like two bullies who are best friends) and have had them both for over five years. My weight is largely due to me eating anything and everything that was total…

all diet sodas do i believe. and it's NOT better drinking the regular kind either - you're really substituting one evil for another. regular soda has so much sugar in it you may as well go sign up for type 2 diabetes for fun...and the diet stuff, well it has negative consequences of it's own which are nasty too. if you…

Hello. Thought this was a nice coincidence with my own plans. Originally I had planned for my ONE-derful Party for the New Years but I seem to be ahead of schedule. Here goes: SW: 221 (August 9 2011) CW: 210 MG1: 199 by 2012 About me: I'm 28 and just out of graduate school. Had a completely rough ride throughout it all…

I think I'm eating clean...well clean for me which means no more processed foods or very little of them....little to no carbs, low sodium, low fat etc...learning veggies and lean meats

me tooo!!! i did 20 minutes of cardio today and afterwards i was starving for the rest of the night. what gives??

I am the same way! Unfortunately, the only way I've been controlling my cravings was to cut it out totally. Now, granted it's only been cut out for four days, but once I hit the third day, I haven't had a craving like I used to. Of course, my brain will play tricks on me like telling itself "wouldn't it be nice to get a…

You can get loads of fibre from veggies and not fall into the carbohydrate trap at all.

I agree. A Lap band isn't that magical solution so many people say it is. My friend had one put in and she did lose weight, but at the cost of throwing up all the time. She told me it was because her body can't handle the food she puts into it. So, you still basically starve because psychologically, your brains sees all…

I know this will sound crazy...but I'm used to it by now: I just hate cheese. When I have pizza, I have no cheese on it. You take away the meet, (maybe except for chicken)...you have a healthier option.

Way to go :)

I think it's Daniel Craig in his James Bond persona...yum If I knew how to add a picture, I definitely would.

I just finished my masters (a month ago) and feel absolutely lost and with no direction now that I don't have a thesis looming over my head or mountains of reading to fill my time up. Even my spare time is now not consumed about griping about grad school! Although, it turns out my degree (in psychology) isn't too useful in…

Yeah, I have to agree. I a couple of weeks ago I'd have to say I'd rather go thirsty than reach for a water over Diet Pepsi. Now, I still allow myself to drink but I also try to drink at least 1L of water a day. Something that has helped me is to tell my brain over and over again that soda, juice, whatever, it just a…

I may have missed it, but what is your blood pressure currently?

Addictions are horribly tricky. Chemically speaking, you substituted one chemical for another and now will have withdrawal symptoms for that one. Unfortunately, discomfort and cravings are things that one must experience when trying to lessen their addiction. I know you may have tried this, but one strategy people have…

I TOTALLY understand!!! I am addicted to food and know it all too well! It's horrible!

Interestingly, sugar acts a similar way in our neural pathways as does addictive drugs like heroin. So don't beat yourself up if it feels like a craving because it is! You may even get emotional, jittery, and sluggish without it but if you persist, it will get better with time. I struggle with the same thing and have…
