Addicted to Food

I realized a couple of weeks ago that I am, without a doubt, addicted to food. When the realization hit me I was kinda in shock and wanted to doubt myself but I can't deny it any longer....I am an addict and my fix is FOOD!!! I hate being like this. Why me? But at the same time I know I have an addictive personality so through-out my adult life I have went from one addiction to another. I am a recovering drug addict, clean for 9 years (Thank God for that). I searched for information on over-eaters anonymous or support groups but didn't come up with anything. I guess I am pretty much on my own except for the support I get here on mfp (which is fantastic). I am going to overcome this!!!!

I said all that to say this...my biggest downfall is Sonic's Blasts! I try so hard to fight the urge but I pass Sonic 4 times everyday...and it is about a mile and a half from my house. I have went 4 days without a blast...I am really so proud of myself!!! To most people that would sound like a small thing but that is the longest I have went without one in 8 months!

BTW...feel free to add me if you can help support and motivate me and i will do my best to support and motivate you also:)

Good for you for resisting Sonics! I would never have described myself as having an addictive personality in general, but I have often said to my husband that food is to me what alcohol is to an alcoholic. I have eaten food when out and stopped to throw away the wrappers on the way home to hide the evidence, then had dinner with the family so I didn't have to admit to having eaten while I was out. I've hidden sweets in the house and in the car so that I can keep them for myself and so noone else will know what I've eaten. I know food addiction.

Honestly logging everything I eat, being accountable for every bite, has helped me resist. I didn't eat 1 chocolate bunny this Easter (I don't even have one hidden in my sock drawer!)

I also LOVED reece sonic blast and I always got the large one (because it was a better deal ;)) Another one of my favorites was Sheridans Almond Mocha concrete (frozen custard) They both have like 1200 calories in them. I had certain times that I would get one ( like every thursday afternoon when I went shopping ect. Here's what I have learned, I can have one and skip 2 of my meals or I can have a McDonald vanilla cone for 150 calories or from sonic for 250 cal. I personally prefer to have my meals so I compromise and get a cone instead. And when you've been eating right an ice cream cone feels like a major treat!! Good luck from one foot addict to another :)

I am also an addict, and am a compulsive overeater-both share many of the same characteristics!! I recommend 2 books to read- 'Breaking Free from Compulsive Overeating' and anything else by Geneen Roth!! I agree that logging all my food really hits my addiction head on and prevents me from going numb with binging!! I haven't had a night binge (my previous M.O.) in a week whichis HUGE for me!! Even tonight I was battling the snack size M&M's that I bought today- I ended up just going to bed!! I'm adding you!!
