+1, definitely seek therapy.

The machines are more accurate simply b/c they're measuring your actual input, while MFP is an estimate. I will say that generally MFP is within 10% of what the machine says for me. But I really push it on the elliptical.

That is so not true. The average American only walks 5,117 steps per day (as of 2010). http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/10/19/the-pedometer-test-americans-take-fewer-steps/?_php=true&_type=blogs&_r=0 I would not say she's sedentary. Lightly active seems appropriate. Besides, the sedentary setting is far too low (IMHO) on…

Darn...guess I should return those purses then.... :-\

TOM? I generally notice I gain 1-4lbs before, and then quickly lose 4-6lbs in the week following.
-
I told some people, but others I regretted telling. It's a mixed bag. Honestly for me I think it's best to have like one person who's on the same path and you can commiserate with. Beyond that, I don't think it's helpful. Heck, that's why I haven't added any friends here! The community is helpful, but for me friends on…

i know the feeling! Awwww, fave topic of the week for sure.

i generally hate exercise. There, I said it.

teens are jackhats. Okay, not all of them. I once had a full mcdonalds coke thrown at me from a moving car (45 miles/hr) while I was on my bike. I felt horrible about it for a long time. I've realized though that if they're good people, the guilt will eat away at them later. And if not, well then they will probably end up…

take pics. I didn't think 10lbs seemed like much either until i compared before/after pics and it was more obvious! Also really depends on where you lose/gain first. If you gain around your hips, your waist may not change much at first. Though I think that if you gain more up top, you're less likely to notice a change b/c…

mine was similar. When my BMI (briefly) hit obese I freaked out. I've had some setbacks since then, but that's really it. Also I have high cholesterol (bolstered by thyroid issues)

Lawd, you all are making me hungry. -Tomato sandwiches (tomato, miracle whip, salt) -Peanut Butter/Dill Pickle Sandwiches (Amazing on toasted bread!) -Braunschwaiger sandwiches (with miracle whip and lettuce, or mustard) or get rid of the sandwich, just eat plain! I don't know if it's weird, but it was to my mother,…

OMG you all are making me want to try some of everything.

Pickle juice! Also mandarin orange juice from the can but that doesn't get quite as many looks.

Me? Though I think some of it was due to the mentality of "eat everything on your plate" from my grandparents. They weren't mean about it or anything, I was just always an eager to please child. My parents never required this, only that we finish whatever vegetable was on our plate. To this day I feel guilty if I don't eat…

Even if you don't have a measuring tape and don't want one, you could make due with some twine or some other non-stretchy material. Or a belt. Just make sure and mark where you started so you can see what's changing.
-
How are you measuring your body fat?
-
Animals are great pals! My roommate has 2 cats who, while not quite as good company as my parents dog, helped.
-
A couple people have posted some possibilities, the only other one I'll mention quickly is it's possible your thyroid has completely shutdown. This is probably less likely, but I know my mother put on a ton of weight in a very short period of time when her's gave out. I don't think 46 lbs though.
-
Go to a different ER. Obviously there's something wrong, anyone who gains that much that quickly has to have some underlying condition! How long have you had your lap band?
-
Unless you have been there, it's impossible to realize the depth of despair one is capable of feeling. Trust me, I know I made my own choice to go off track in that time.
-
Thanks. Normally I'd agree, but without going into too much detail, the main thing that pushed me off track was a rather intense bout of depression. It's not something I hope to go through again.

if smoking & eating when stressed means you never learned coping skills then i'd say 85% of Americans don't have any either.
-
i don't drink much anyway (maybe once a month), but I sorta wish I did b/c if that's where my extra calories were coming from it'd be such an easy change! Alas I already drink diet pop & don't drink any of my calories elsewhere (besides coffee + milk and the occassional orange juice). I envy those who can just do those…

I really wish I could love this post.
-
+1 And start eating more. If you're only up to 1600 calories on a good day it's no wonder you're not gaining.
-
My friend just had her RMR tested, you could always do that to get a more accurate view of your calorie needs. Perhaps you really do have a lower daily energy requirement than the calculators are saying. Also make sure you aren't double counting your exercise calories (ie, including them in the MFP/TDEE calculations and…

Starting weight: 161.0 lbs July 8: 161.0 (minus 0) July 13: July 20: July 27: My grandfather died last week and with going home and everything, I just didn't do well the last couple days of the week.

You really need to get your thyroid checked by a doctor. If it's enlarged you almost certainly have hyper or hypothyroidism. Please get checked out, if severe enough it could be life-threatening.
