  • http://www.runnersworld.com/article/printer/1,7124,s6-241-285--14203-0,00.html Was reading my Runners World on the airplane yesterday and read this article on 'disordered eating'. I thought it was pretty good and many of us can probably identify with some of the behavior mentioned in the article. Just a warning to us all…
  • mfp, I"ve been struggling a bit with the exact same question that you are asking. I have reset my calories fairly low as I need to take off a few pounds to get back to goal weight but I am consistently going over by about 300 calories. My body is telling me I think that I just need that at this point. I think its somewhat…
  • Robin, I did give up on my spreadsheet. Had done it for almost a year but when I saw how the iphone app would graph for the week I thought that would be good enough for me and so far am happy with it. What I don't like is that if you you change your calorie goal from week to week, the graphs are alway showing your progress…
  • Good thought Robin. I really should do a summary, if for no other reason than for myself in future years. I'm heading off to work so hope to come back to that in the next couple days.
  • Hello all: I"ve been missing for quite awhile for many of the same reason as others. Maintaining has its ebb and flow and quite often I just need to limit some of my time on the computer. Has anyone else found that using the iphone app also causes you to check in less on the discussion boards? Its that way for me. Just…
  • Yes, I am one of those that was on MFP a few years back, stopped, gained and then started a year ago and lost the weight again. I logged most of last year and maintained since February. Around Sept I got sloppy again and logged only occasionally. I did put some weight back on but then starting Jan 2012 got back to logging…
  • Hi Robin! I like your new picture. Thanks always for the summaries that you do for all of us. Very nice to be acknowledged and youa re so good at welcoming our new friends too. How was your trip with your Mom? Hope it all went well. Even if you couldn't exercise, that's real life and a break is good at times.
  • Yes I do love the weekly chart and as I was manually logging daily totals over into excel to look at weekly/monthly trends I have now stopped that.
  • Checking back in here. I'm glad to see that so many people did so well over the holidays and there are others like me who are doing a quick fix to get back to goal. I've been pretty sporadic over the last 3 months and suddenly when I weighted on Jan 1 I was up 8 LBS! Back to my 1200/day (plus whatever exercise calories)…
  • Wanted to let newcomers to the thread know that we have Parts 1 and 2 which have been going on for quite a long while. Although we just now started this thread under the groups, if any of you want to read some past history about what your fellow maintainers have gone thru, do a search for the older threads. Lots of good…
  • Yes, Thanks Robin for starting new thread in the groups!
  • Noticeable difference. Hopefully seeing that difference will help you with the last 20. Great job!
  • I just buy fewer at a time!

  • I never use to weigh foods but recently got a scale and love it. If you want to stick to any plan you have to be somewhat rigid and what others might think as 'obsessive' otherwise it probably won't work. I don't weigh everything but sometimes snacks and meats. I do it unobtrusively so hubby (who is not into the watching…
  • I agree with Chantal's advise. I am a runner although not as thin as you and I believe that you can still put on weight and run. You just need to figure out your base calories to maintain and make sure that you eat all of your exercise calories back on PLUS more. 500 more per day over your maintenance base should net you a…
  • Make sure its turned on in your settings. Under setting (top right of page), choose the category for News Feed settings and then make sure the box is checked that will show how many days in a row you have logged in. It should then occassionally show up on your wall.
  • Interesting that I found this thread today. I'm going on an Alaska cruise (all inclusive with the alcohol paid for also) for one week followed by a land package of about 5 days so I've been debating what the best strategy for me will be. I'm on maintenance right now but know that I don't want to ruin a vacation by totally…
  • I agree to go up slowly. Personally I keep my daily targets only about 100 more than I was doing when I was losing but I allow myself a few days a week to go significantly over (like with company or eating out). It balances out in the end but then again I've NEVER had a problem of eating all my calories and have to…
  • I agree that not having specific goals other than 'to maintain' can be a bit hard to measure and less rewarding in some ways. On the other hand, since I've been a goal other times in the past and then weight always creeps back up for me, when I step on the scale now and I am still at goal weight it is fairly rewarding to…
  • Maxine, I chuckled reading about your massive binge since I just got back from a weekend where there were buffet breakfasts and I totally binged. I gave up even trying to log anything, made up the day's quick calories at over twice my daily allotment. After returning I decided not to weigh on Monday but today I weighed and…
  • Welcome jerseyshornurse. Looks like you've done pretty good for only gaining 5 lbs in 3 years but congrats on the wakeup call and not letting it get out of hand. I think you'll love the site and support you get from MFP. I was happy to find this thread and there isn't a lot of direct support for us maintainers but we know…
  • There is a weight lifting category under 'cardio' which awards some calories. That's what I use when I weight lift. Its not tons of calories like cardio but its something and much more accurate than zero calories.
  • Robin, I'm right in your range also. Hit my goal of 130 and MFP indicates I should be able to maintain at a bit over 1500 but I find that since I do occasionally go 'over' or have a day of setback a week that keeping it slightly under gives me a little wiggle room. Right now my target is 1450 and I need to see how that…
  • Hi all! Just found this thread and although haven't read all the past posts, I know I will need some help on maintenance as that's where I always fall short. I"m looking forward to chatting with others who have met their initial loss goal and are now working toward staying there!
  • I personally weigh myself daily but many of the weight loss plans recommend weekly so that you don't see so many of the daily normal ups and downs due to water weight, etc. Frankly I think its personal choice. You may post your weight whenever you weigh or when your weight changes. I always post a weight loss and then if…
  • Welcome educator! Hope you end up loving this site as much as I do. tracking food/exercise and calories really does work. Good luck to you!
  • Congrats on the 21 lbs loss!. IF you are eating close to your allotted calories its doubtful you are in starvation mode. I notice a huge difference in 'what' I eat. Are you getting enough protein? Usually adding in some protein with each meal or as a snack really helps that for me. You might want to experiment a little…
  • You are over half way there and I'm betting that there are a lot of people on this site that only have about 10 to go but they may not participate as much as others. I'm your same height and also have never been terribly heavy but I usually get serious when I"m about 10-15 lbs overweight. I think its great you recognized…
  • You want to be close to your calorie goal but its not critical every day. Yes, you should eat some of those extra calories that you earn from exercising but I try not to eat them all if I have earned a large amount that day. You definitely don't want to go below the 1200 and if you earn 600 from exercise than probably…
