Still has 182 calories and 20g of sugar, but only 5g of fat. They freeze well though and are great if you need something in a pinch. But there is nothing to tweak since everything is in the cake mix. I have made this recipe from Whole Foods before, and since it is "from scratch" you have a little more wiggle room with the…

Found this as an FYI. Just confirms what most everyone has told you already: 1. Prepare in advance. Giving blood means a drop in your energy level. Provide your body with the fuel it needs to fight this drop. When you plan to give blood, eat regular meals and drink plenty of fluids beforehand unless your doctor gives you…

Add in some nuts or healthy grains like brown rice or sweet potatoes: good for you and good for a quick 200 calories. But if you are eating right and feel fine, I honestly wouldn't worry too much about it. For various reasons, too many to go into here, you are probably eating more than you realize anyway, especially if you…

Then there is the quick and easy "muffin" recipe: I box devil's food OR spice cake mix and a 15oz can of pumpkin. That's it!! Mix them, and do not add anything else, batter will be dense. Put in muffin tin (makes 12) and bake at 400 for 20 mins.

I also make pumpkin pie smoothies at this time of year. For 2: 1/2 cup each plain non fat yogurt, pumpkin, and "milk" (soy, almond, %, whatever) 2 scoops vanilla protein powder 1 frozen banana pumpkin pie spice to taste ice for texture. Like drinking pumpkin pie for breakfast!!!

One of my faves. I add a bit of chipotle in adobo too... http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/recipes/467 Serves 6 Besides adding a sweet nutty flavor to dishes, pumpkin is a ready source of vitamin A, which boosts the nutrition content of this offbeat chili. Garnish each portion with a dollop of sour cream and chopped…

You can't make it taste like ground beef, because it's not ground beef. There is a bit of a different texture too. I use Perdue and don't have any trouble at all with using it for the same things I would use beef for, however I usually use recipes that specifically call for ground turkey. Turkey chili, turkey burgers, and…

Awesome!!

I honestly don't worry about it....if I ate well during the day and fall short on my calories good for me. There are plenty of days I wind up going over too. I recently read an article that said we were all way too hung up on day in day out calorie counts, and should be looking more longer term, like a week instead. But if…

While I usually like most of the info from Men's/Women's Health, I hate it when they throw information like that out with no disclosure about the parameters that were used in the study. I can certainly get a lot more than 2000 "healthy" calories out of $36.

This!! And I agree that seems like a lot for jogging in place. That's a 2+ mile run for me at about a 10 min pace...

Whole Foods 365 Brand Vanilla. Regardless of the type you buy, that is the only flavor that you need. Many of the pre-flavored powders have added sugar. If you want other flavor profiles, just play with your ingredients. Want chocolate, add unsweetened cocoa powder. Want fruit or citrus, use juice/nectar or the specific…

The date I joined...but I note in my profile abd sugbature that I have maintained a 50# loss for 3 years now.

Everyone is logging some crazy mileage. I feel like a slacker. My hubby finally registered for his century ride yesterday and is on week 4 of his training plan, so he is piling up the mileage as well.

I completely missed the part about losing 25# in 2 months....your body has put on the brakes big time. That is a LOT of weight in a very short period of time. And I agree that you are probably not eating enough at this point. That's the dirty little secret of weight loss...you have to eat to lose.

IMO sugar is sugar. I have recently started weighing my fruit and have been shocked at how much what I would consider to be a small to medium piece of fruit actually weighs. The weight is comparable to a large piece +. For me that is very important because I don't eat a lot of processed/added sugar, so fruit is my biggest…

A lof of people like the Couch to 5k (C25k) program. I just started running in intervals of 2-3 minutes followed by a walk break of the same length of time, and repeated until I had run for a total of 15 ins. Over time, the intvervals got longer, and the rests shorter until I was running continuously for 15 mins and I just…

This!! And while the skin is red, they are still "white" inside But, supposedly that doesn't matter anymore. There are some "good for you" nutrients in "white" potatoes too. I read an article awhile ago that the biggest problem with white potatoes is what people do with them: fry them, "scallop" them, smother them in…

I usually stick to wine, or vodka and soda (love citron, blueberry, and pear vodkas with plain old club soda). Whatever I do, I always drink water too. Flavored soda/vodka works really well because I can switch to plain old club soda and no one is any wiser :-) But the best thing is probably just to limit yourself to 1 or…

Heading into the last week of training for my sprint tri!! One week from today!! I'll start logging some longer rides after next week. Long run tomorrow, so I'm done riding for this week. Here's what I've got: Tuesday: 9 Thursday: 7 Saturday: 9 So 25 this week, 36.25 already for September. I'm in the DC area and we had…

Usually every day, but Friday is my "official" weigh in day. There is no right or wrong...some people do better weighing more often and others less.

I've maintained a 50# loss for 3 years now. 3 years ago I started running a couple of minutes at a time, and taking a minute or 2 walk break, then running again until I had covered 15 minutes. Over time I began to string that all together until I was running for 15 minutes. Then I just kept going. I don't even know where I…

Your comment about walking around the amusement park caught my eye. I actually wore my pedometer at Kings Dominion a few years ago. While I didn't really ever break a sweat, I was shocked at the # of steps that I logged: if I remember correctly, it came out at about 17000. I also wear one when we are out playing "tourist."…

Often people aren't full because they don't eat the right foods. I can eat 1600 and be ravenous or 1200 and be full....and it all depends on what foods I ate that day. Load up on veggies. You can eat a LOT...full of nutrients and fiber and relatively low calorie. Then lean protein: 3 oz per meal. Follow that up with good…

We have a little crepe place at the beach....nutella and banana is one of my favorite combos.

This. IMO sugar is sugar. I don't eat a lot of processed foods so most of mine comes from fruit and dairy. But I still try to limit that to about 30g per day.

Like you said, it depends on what you do. A good burn for me on a daily basis is about 600 cals in an hour. Right now I am usually running, biking or swimming, or maybe a combination since I am training for a sprint triathlon. I can easily burn 1000+ calories when I am in the heart of a training plan for a 10 mile race or…

If you are buying light/reduced fat, or alternative spreads like Better n' Peanut Butter, then 100 cals/tbsp may seem kind of high. But that's actually about average for most nut butters. The problem with Nutella, besides the fact that you can't stop, is that it is loaded with sugar.

Biscoff makes a spread that tastes just like their fabulous cookies. I can stay away from most store bought cookies, but I love the little Biscoffs!! Anyway, I bought a jar of the spread, thinking it might not be as addictive as Nutella....I was wrong.
