  • So...if I have 1200 cals & burn 300 exercising, I NEED to eat 1500 calories to lose weight?
  • I went on a cruise a couple of years ago and only gained 1 lb. Here was my axn plan: 1. Took the stairs whenever possible (avoided elevators unless I was all dressed up for dinner.) 2. Limited myself to 1 dessert per day (for example, if I wanted dessert after dinner, I did not have ice cream or yogurt by the pool.) 3.…
  • Since I am already working out 6 days per week (approximately 7 hours and 2300 calories per week), I have the workout thing under control. So, I am taking baby steps this year... Resolution 1: I will not eat leftovers off of my kids plates. Talk about empty/lost calories that are hard to track Resolution 2: I will drink…
  • My birthday is May 3rd and I would love to lose 20-25 lbs. by then as well! I AM IN! Marcy
  • You can request the salad without the dressing and then add like 1 TB of dressing to your portion. Also, if you avoid the cheese adn croutons, that will help, too. The breadsticks are a completely different story. Good luck resisting them  Oh and Olive Garden posts nutritional info on their website. Check it out. Marcy
  • Same thing for me and it is frustrating. I am going to stick with it, though. Good luck next week.
  • I have heard the same thing...you burn an extra 500 calories per day when exclusively breast feeding BUT you need to make sure you are eating enough so that your breast milk has the proper nutrients for baby. Women who are breast feeding tend to need more water than the rest of us and also you may notice your appetite will…
  • Turkey meatloaf and homemade mashed potatos (made w/ skim milk and 1/4 butter) and steamed green beans.
  • I am a mom, too and I cook for my family. I definitely understand where you are coming from and I struggle w/ the same thing. My strategies? (1) eat a healthy and filling snack (around 150 cals) at about 3pm. This means I am less hungry at dinner and not as likely to overeat. (2) I eat what my family eats but usually I try…
  • My trainer says walking at incline works the glutes, hamstrings and calves more than walking flat. It also increases cardio output. Preferable to not use hand rails b/c you will work harder if pumping your amrs...but if you are using proper form and not resting on hand rails, you are still getting a better workout than…
  • Okay...my husband and I are going to the Dominican Republic for a much needed vacation on Monday. We haven't travelled anywhere alone since our honeymoon and we are celebrating 10 wonderful years of marriage. Now the hard part...I have been living healthfully since January 19 and in doing so, have lost 15 lbs and 10…

  • I just want to share my excitement. My weightloss seems to have stalled over the past 3 weeks (i blame recently starting BCP) but...I stayed the course, kept eating right, recording my calories, adn exercising/strength training 4-5 days/week. I took my measurements today and in 1 month, I've lost 7.25 inches all…
  • I am a working mom of 3 so I know how hard it is to fit in the work outs. If I exercise after work, it takes time away from the kiddos So...I have been getting up around 5:30am and going to the gym until about 7am. I get back in time for a light breakfast, shower and then it is time to get the kids up and ready to go. I am…

  • That is exactly what MFP says for me too! BMR and recc calories AND I plateau every 5 lbs or so. Interesting, huh? Maybe 1200 cals IS to little?!?! Food for thought, I guess. Marcy
  • tkrull- How many calories does MFP recommend you eat? This site recommends I eat 1200 net cal/per day and says that eating that, I will lose approximately 1lb per week. I don't have trouble staying w/in caloric guidelines but several of my friends/family have questioned if this is enough to eat. FYI: I weigh 149 lbs. and…
  • How long have you been at your plateau? I ask b/c I seem to plateau every 5 lbs lost for about 2 weeks. Usually, I push my cardio a little bit and get back to basics (i.e. weighing food, measuring portions.) After doing this for a little while, I get lazy with the scale and estimate my portions. I am usually surprised when…
  • Hello all! I have been lurking on these boards for about a month now but haven't posted much. I started my lifestyle change 1/19/2009 and am...for the first time...excited about it! I have been overweight for a long time (since freshman year of college when I gained the freshman 15  ) For years, I tried various…
  • I read an article recently (in SELF magazine) that said that if you work out 3 days per week for 30-45 minutes, then your normal daily intake is enough to refuel your body after working out BUT if you work out more often or more vigorously, you should eat healthy carbohydrate rich snack after working out IN ADDITION to…
  • You could be pregnant. My first sign of pregnancy was menstrual cramps with NO bleeding. Try a home pg test. Marcy
  • First, I make sure to eat a small snack btwn meals (i.e. apple, banana, orange, etc...) Second, I also find that drinking water helps to curb my hunger. Notice how I didn't say drinking water makes me feel full? I have never found that water subsitituted for food BUT I do notice when I have been drinking H20 throughout the…
  • I always think...'I will love the way I feel AFTER I'm done'.
  • Okay...I think I may win the 'who spends the most' game. I spend about $600-$650/month on groceries and toiletries. Of note, however, I have 21 month old twins so that includes DIAPERS which are mucho expensive. I have noticed my grocery costs have gone down since eating less processed foods and more fresh fruits, veggies…

  • I had a late night, too! AND...I ate Pizza Hut too. I 'only' went 70 calories over my recommended 1200 for the day so I figure any day I get pizza and don't completely blow my diet is a good day. It helped that I had 2 slices of a medium thin crust veggie lovers pizza and stayed away from the large pan pepperoni pizza.…

  • When I went on a cruise my goal was to maintain my weight...not lose it (I mean, let's be realistic, right:wink: ) I achieved my goal and this is how I did it. 4 of the 7 days (every day 'at sea', I took advantage of the ship's walking track and walked 2-4 miles. I took the stairs as often as possible which required 6-8…
