Vegan does not necessarily equate to healthy (i.e. Oreo cookies and soda are technically vegan). I think parents need to make decisions for their children, but there is research to support a whole foods, plant-based diet: http://www.pcrm.org/health/diets/vegdiets/frequently-asked-questions-about-nutrition#VeganKids…

Please read "Disease Proof Your Child" by Dr. Joel Fuhrman. Lots of great research on why a vegan or near vegan diet is optimal for a growing child.

I recommend reading, googling or even searching YouTube anything by: Jeff Novick Dr. Joel Fuhrman Dr. Neal Barnard Dr. John McDougall Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn John Robbins Dr. Michael Klapper Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine A whole foods, vegan diet is extremely healthy!! Best of luck!

Going vegan was the best decision I've ever made. But being vegan does not necessarily equate to being healthy because there is a lot of vegan junk food. I eat whole, unrefined foods. Fruits, vegetables, beans and intact whole grains (i.e. brown rice, quinoa). There are tons of resources. Check out: Engine 2 Diet Eat to…

Watch your sodium levels, eat as much fruit and vegetables as you want, be careful with oils because they are very high in calories for very little food (120 calories per tablespoon). Research calorie density and eat as much food as you want with a low calorie density! Good luck!!

I know a lot of people who eat mostly fruit (raw vegans) and they are not overweight at all. In fact, many of them lost weight eating mostly fruit.

You can really see the change in your face :) Keep going!!! :)

I agree. You can YouTube anything by Dr. Neal Barnard, Dr. Joel Fuhrman, or Dr. John McDougall on diabetes, and you will find a lot of information just on YouTube. My local library also have most of their books, so check there first if you don't want to buy a book!! Good luck!

Steel cut oats with fruit. Fruit salad. Green smoothie. Fruit smoothie.

Just be careful of refined flour products with additional added sugars. I think it really comes down to caloric density. Intact whole grains with the fiber still intact will make you feel fuller sooner without added calories.

Have you ever heard of the Engine 2 diet or the Eat to Live program? I transitioned from vegetarian to vegan in the fall of 2011, but cut out all processed foods on January 1, 2012. I've been listening to stories of people who adopted whole food, plant based diets and how they lost weight, got healthier, and even got…
