It seems that most heavier people in my own circles have this same misconception, that they do need to lose some weight but that they're just "built big" and that their ideal weight is only 20-30 lbs away when that goal would still leave them in the obese category. Edit: I sadly think this is a symptom of skewed perception…

Haha! The hair steals the photo so it's understandable. lol

Exactly that. lol

This, but I'm the dude in the picture. The ultra fine woman is my wife. lol

I don't think the comments you quoted were aimed so much at OP as they were at the first response to OP, where the poster implied that BMI is useless because Arnold was obese when he won Mr. Olympia.
-
This has been my exact situation. A BMI of 28 (around 185 lbs at 5' 8"), is about 20 lbs overweight for me on the BMI scale. I've weighed about that much before I lifted weights and I've weighed that much (and more, frankly) after spending years in the gym building muscle. Pre lifting, at over 180 I had a poochy belly.…

Blocked and reported.

Agreed, I didn't mean that outliers are rare. Just extreme ones, like those who measure as obese but are lean. Slightly overweight but pretty lean is more common, I think.
-
I was referring to the height disparity between myself and the OP (joking about the fact the healthy BMI range for my height is a good 30 pounds lower than for his). I wasn't commenting on my actual weight status. But to answer your question, no I've never wasted my money getting my body fat measured (I'm not a competitive…

True, but by definition, "individuals who deviate heavily from average" are not common.
-
How tall do I have to be to be considered in the healthy range at 194? lol At 5' 8", I'm in the overweight range when I crest 165 and obese at 197.
-
No one would call 1974 Arnold obese...but there's also no one who looks like 1974 Arnold. Arnold being an extreme outlier doesn't mean that it's common for normal people to also be extreme outliers. Is BMI perfect? No, of course not. But as cwolfman13 said, it is a decent starting point for the vast majority of people.…

Stop to consider that a lot (if not most) kids are naturally somewhat averse to low calorie, nutrient dense foods which appeal more readily to adults. They prefer higher calorie, more palatable foods as seen in this post (by design, due to their growth patterns and activity levels). For this reason, it can often be a…

No, but YOU said it was abuse/neglect and cited them as support for your position.

Still, no.

She is very, very wrong. The most successful coaches of elite bodybuilders (bikini or otherwise) would also agree that she is wrong. Just because her coach didn't make her count calories and did have her eat 6 meals a day does NOT mean that counting calories doesn't work or that only eating 6 meals a day will. It seems she…

This is horribly misguided and just plain bad advice.

Anybody mentioned cream cheese on Ritz crackers yet?

And Joseph ran him back out of town which is why you never read about him.

On the flip side, logging the cooked weight could cause you to log fewer calories than you consume if you cook your meat drier than what was used to create the entry in MFP. Better to log the raw weight and not eat all the fat than to log less than you actually ate.
-
Weighing/logging the raw weight is more accurate due to the fact that the weight after cooking will differ based on how it's cooked and for how long. The drier it gets, the lighter it gets but there's still just as much meat there.

Chocolate ice cream is the standard by which all other ice creams measure their worth. All fall despairingly short with the exception of Cookies & Cream.

My sister's cat (RIP) would act the same way over olives as he would for catnip, rolling on the floor, rubbing his face on it, the whole nine yards.

I've seen cats get on olive highs.

How have I never participated in this thread??? This is right up my alley. *Must resist urge to go back and start replying to posts from 2018.*

I was reading through and thinking to myself that they became popular in the early to mid 2000's when I got to your post which confirmed as much.
