If that's anything like beef chilli with red kidney beans I'm there :)

1700 is my default, I kick the butt out of that during the week (I like to run lean during a typical office weekday) and compensate at the weekends to avoid slowing the metabolism. I don't log exercise or booze, I figure they cancel each other out over the course of a week ... Somehow it all seems to be working ... Hmmm,…

Sweet Jaysus, that's a typical Monday for me ;)

I fancy a Snickers bar now.

I'm going to stick my neck out and say no, don't bother. Really not worth the hassle given that you won't get any major benefits compared to any other form of eating/exercising that creates an energy gap. You won't burn more fat, there is no metabolic magic.

I did sub 30 for a few months, it's not that hard once you get used to it. You just focus on a limited subset of foods. I'm glad I did it because it cut out the cravings I had, I wouldn't want to do it forever though ... it's just a tool to be used as necessary. 120g a day I would class as moderate.

I read all that too, it's all a big marketing con, 'eat your 5 serves of', etc. Fruit has been grown to be sweeter and less nutritious. Yer typical apple might as well be a Snickers bar. Been down that road. Look, when it comes down to it, the average punter just wants to know if an apple a day is OK if they are trying to…

Absolutely ... and brussel fracking sprouts. Can't stand avocado either ... yeeesh ...

Mostly nutrition for me too. My exercise is walking, I love doing it but I don't kid myself on how much energy it burns. Mindset too, yeh LadyPakal, an often overlooked ingredient ... Get the attitude right and all else should follow.

Fruit's fine ... Packed with fibre, vitamins and whatnot. Don't stress the fructose, we didn't get fat eating too many apples :)

I did it for 6 months or so, it definitely helped me get my cravings in check and learn what real hunger was. I think my body got used to it though (keto) and I didn't see the point in continuing restricting whole swathes of nutrition. Less food rules work better for me. I think low carbing is a good temporary tool if you…

High strength Vitamin C and a men's multi every morning for general health. I know the benefits may be overplayed but I don't see the harm and it doesn't work out that expensive. I also take magnesium in the evening to aid sleep and relaxation. As does red wine ...

I went through a low carb phase, 6 months or so, 30 to 50g total per day. I think it helped me get in touch with real hunger as opposed to blood sugar swings. It is said to be effective for those who are 'insulin resistant' and therefore have problems metabolising highly refined carbs (like white bread, doughnuts,…

I can ...cheese, ice cream, chocolate and red wine daily ...

Doesn't the gherkin deal with this?

I say eat some food. Food is life, food is sustenance, food is good, food is enjoyable, food is sociable, calories are good, eat some, eat an appropriate amount of them according to your activity level. Water is good too but you can't live off it alone ... Obviously ... Eat food.

It's not a binge if it's every night. More of a lifestyle. Anyway, on topic, no.

I drink a shed load of red and still lose. Doubtless I would lose quicker if I replaced it with water but I find water doesn't hit the same spot late at night. As others have noted recently the problem with alcohol isn't the 'empty calories', it's the food consumed with it and the fact the body has to clear it as a…

After a week of very respectable deficit I have just had a weekend of moderate excess, not really cheating as such, just making sure my metabolism isn't going to die on me.

I did all that primal stuff ( and under 30g carbs a day) for a while, seemed to sort out my being hungry all time. The it stopped working for me and I'm back on 40c/30f/30p ish eating whatever comes to hand. Going OK, cheesecake and peanut M&Ms formed part of my day :)

A pretty common complaint when low-carbing, as well as the salt I would supplementing with magnesium, pretty cheap, risk-free and should help with sleep too. I still take it just before bed even though I'm not low carb right now.

I've never logged exercise or my disgustingly regular and copious alcohol intake and my daily spoon or two of ice cream never makes it to the log. Somehow it all seems to work out OK ... :)

It's an egg, eat it ...
