A potato is junk?

Post number 7, getting slack people.

I made a frittata yesterday with 12 of them, plenty of heavy cream too. Good nutrition on the cheep. ;)

Some people find reducing them helps control appetite and cravings. In some cases reducing them, particularly the refined carbs, can help with metabolic conditions which are hindering fat loss. Some people don't need to. S'all individual innit? :)

I'm a ballpark kind of guy ... I know what is *significant* and I'll track that kind of stuff but the rest doesn't have to be monitored to the nearest gram ...

Checking in. Happy whatever it is where you are. :) Red AND white lined up tonight. Hell, I might even grab a bottle of bourbon.

Terrorists only win if they generate terror ... Nice kitty :)

A couple of hundred $ up front AND a monthly subscription fee?

Congratulations, I quit a few years ago thanks to the Allen Carr Easy Way book. If you feel the need to relapse it's worth a read to remind yourself there are no benefits to smoking. Not stress relief, not relieving boredom, nothing. Good luck with your pursuit of health, go easy on yourself as you adjust to being a…

That kind of covers Oz in general, it was invaded by them originally ;) I'm in Brisbane, love Melbourne though, one day I may well move ...

I'd just like to add that perceptions can change over time. When I went all 'Low carb/GI is the way forward!' I was coming from being a carb-addicted, food craving nut every few hours. Then I did it for a bit (and got immersed in the low carb thing) and was amazed I could not be hungry for hours at a time. This went on for…

Hell yeh, I love beer, heavy gear too, stuff with twigs and grit and WAY too much alcohol in. My mainstay is red wine but I will throw in the occasional large bottle of something Belgian and brutal. I enjoy, I drink, I stay sane ...

I do, I love fat.

I read it and listened to the podcasts. It's pretty solid advice IMO but pushes the 'you don't need to count calories' angle a bit heavy. When cornered he admits that calories ultimately rule but eating the right foods can help the process and address metabolic issues. His explanation of why insulin response is key (like…

I have got no idea why but I instinctively 'LIKE' this post. (Sorry, I'm not a Facebooker, I just follow what the kids do ...) I get out of my freaking tree regularly on red wine and still lose weight. Maybe I'm malnourished. Maybe I'm a dreamer. I'm not the only one.

Post number 5, a new record.

I envy you and your mountains, it would be criminal not to hike.

A stunning example of how simple it is to register and post at MFP. Even a child can do it. Well done techies!

I did it for 6 months (basically no grains, legumes or dairy ... OK, some cheese ;)), which worked really well at first. It seemed to reduce hunger (I wasn't craving food every few hours as I was) and I enjoyed being a bit more creative (can't just "fix a sandwich"). But, it got to a point where I couldn't see any…

My annual weigh-in is due in July. I used to weigh daily, then weekly then I just couldn't be bothered to fire up the Wii Fit (which is probably horribly inaccurate anyway). In the meantime I go by how my clothes fit. My work trousers are a pretty good guide as my waist tends to track with the rest of me fat-wise. I have…

That's me too. I aim for 40/30/30 but don't stress about it if I'm in a decent deficit and not hungry.

Howdy Low Carb Group, Happy Holidays :) I think there is some misunderstanding on both sides of the fence. Some low-carbers will swear that it's not the deficit that is key, there is some metabolic magic in low carbing and it's all about blood sugar, insulin, Gary Taubes, Lustig, Wheat Belly and whatnot. Some 'everything…

I try to keep some calorie buffer specifically so that I can munch some bread just before going to bed. Carbs'll help you sleep, based on proper science with long names for stuff. If I can put some crisps on it too then all the better. Red Rock Deli ones preferably ... yum. I did Paleo for a while, sorry, but I just like…

Hmmm, I fed a fair few million human beings to a hooker last night, she's going to have to Zumba like hell to work those off.

First of all that wine you are drinking wine is a real poison, all alcohol is, hence the priority to metabolise it away by the liver. Secondly, Jack Daniels. Wonderful stuff I try to avoid for reasons many, varied and with consequences colourful. Thirdly, everything increases weight. Don't buy into the Wheat Belly thing,…

Tuna, I could do with mixing it up a bit ...

I log it all, I tend to 'run lean' during the working week so weekends are my chance to eat a bit more a make sure I'm not overdoing it.

Montage ... Team America

I did the low carb/keto thing for a while, it helped me control cravings and learn what real hunger is. I'm back on the eat everything but less of it and move a bit more plan now. I don't need a lot of 'food rules' in my life so just concentrating on that deficit is working well. I try to hit my protein target and let the…

You're under your calorie goal? Do nothing.
