  • If you are a 6' tall male, age 40 that weighs 950 lbs, your TDEE is 8,275 calories. That's a lot of food!
  • Thank you for posting your incredible story and congratulations on your ongoing success.
  • Check with your pool and ask if you can wear a tshirt over your bathing suit. Some pools may not allow this. Definitely go with a one piece bathing suit to exercise. In the pool, no one cares what you look like but a more modest approach is generally appreciated!
  • In, butterfly is on my hit list for this year!
  • It took me years of trying, to be able to run. You can do it, but you need to start slow. If you can't walk the distance, you sure can't run it! Build up by walking. Then walk faster. When that gets easier, insert slow jogs for short distances, maybe 10-20 steps. Then 20 steps walking, 10 steps running. Progress slowly,…
  • Take it slow, everyone is at a different starting point for fitness. If you can't do the workout recommended, then modify it for what you can do and work up to it. When you can do the first workout without pain, then you can advance. It may take you months to get to this point, but, that's ok, just do it at your own pace.…
  • If you like to exercise at the gym ever day, then do it! Every one is different and finding out what works for you is the key to success. Good luck on your journey.
  • In to read later
  • I would not log it as a calorie burn. It is included in your regular daily calorie allowance
  • So very sorry for your family's loss.
  • I have a fitbit one. Started with the Ultra, which failed under warranty and was replaced with the one. No issues so far, works great. I really like the weekly reports, that's what I use to calculate my TDEE and set my calories based on my average calorie burn.
  • Welcome back. I use a fitbit and like it. It only nags if you look at it though!
  • My motivation is my desire to remain healthy. I know that there is no time like now to do what I need to do to stay fit. I'm 57 and not getting any younger. I broke my wrist, requiring surgery 8 years ago and during that time, I was on pain killers and could not exercise due to swelling. I hated being immobile. Don't want…
  • I think that 1,000 calories burned for an hour of zumba is too high. Not sure where you are getting that number from, if it is a HRM, it may not be working properly. MFP gives zumba about 300 cal. / hour
  • Do the race with several friends and be sure to run side by side. Don't forget to stop often, without warning on the course and take pictures, no need to go to the side of the road.
  • Congratulation on your amazing accomplishment. Welcome to the 26.2 mile club!
  • Maybe you need to show him this post? I don't think he would be getting the silent treatment from me, I would definitely let him know how much he hurt your feelings. You've made great progress, keep up the good work.
  • My swim coach teaches Total Immersion style and when I took lessons from her, she introduced me to it. I had to relearn how to swim since I was self taught. It is the only way I swim now, still learning and practicing. She is a distance open water swimmer, has done the English Channel with very good time, so yes, it can be…
  • I guess it's time to start weighing. Good post
  • I swim 3-5 days per week. What keeps me going besides the fact that I love to swim is an annual goal in miles that I am working towards. Also trying to improve my form and speed. Took some lessons a couple years ago from my swim coach and using the Total Immersion training DVD's for technique. Friend request on it's way.
  • I'm 57 and been trying to lose 30 lbs for about 10 years. Good news, I have not gained any and am down 5 lbs from when I joined MFP. I ran my 5th marathon 2 weeks ago and am currently swimming most days of the week to reach my goal for the year. Started swimming distance 2 years ago, took lessons so I could feel…
  • So you are doing a 5K run. There is no such thing as a 5K marathon. A marathon is defined by a set distance and that distance is 26.2 miles. You should consider correcting your terminology if you are going to participate in an event. A 5K is totally doable for you. Good luck
  • If you have no running base and have not been successful in your past attempts at running, why do you want to run 26.2 miles? Why don't you try becoming successful with 5K's which are 3.1 miles. If they go well, work on 10K's, 6.2 miles. The next big jump is a 1/2 marathon, 13.1 miles. It takes a long time for a non runner…
  • Can you swim? Swimming is one of the best full body exercises and is incredible for toning your body. Swim as often and as long as you can.
  • Maybe add more vegetables and protein and reduce the carbs. I tend to split my calories into meals and eat a larger breakfast and lunch and eliminate in between meal snacking. I also use my weekly average with my exercise already added in for daily expenditure and don't add back exercise calories. I don't do well on 1200…
  • Good job playing it forward.
  • My workouts are generally 2 hours a day, 5 days a week. I eat healthy and log. Although I have not lost weight, I have gained muscle, strength and have lost inches. I have went down a size in clothes. The scale is not the best indicator of fitness. I am running a marathon on Sunday so I am not willing to cut down on…
  • Wouldn't you rather be health and fit than skinny? Log your food, add exercise or activity and you will lose. It's up to you to stay motivated, you have to want it for yourself.
  • If you are up to swimming lengths, I have achieved very good results from swimming and consider it one of the best over all body toning you can do. If you don't know how to swim efficiently, consider lessons. I took them and it helped a lot. Back pain is the worst. I have not experienced anything like you have, but I'm…
