I see what you're saying but I wouldn't enter gym machine readings anyway. I've always stuck with MFP estimates for such gym work as I do. I've searched around the threads, and I see this topuc has come up before with no definitive answer. So I've now emailed Polar and asked them to clarify... my hunch though is that the…

OK - so you've got a device like a fitbit that you wear all day? What I'm talking about is an HRM worn only during exercise. It records calorie burn in excess of MFP estimates, and I'm wondering whether this is because I need to deduct my BMR ..

I was recommended to use rice bran oil for cooking, but I can't remember why now! It has a high burn point so good for stir fries and had a list of other health benefits... Anyway I use that, and also keep extra virgin olive oil and some with flavour (avocado, walnut, toasted sesame and lemon are the ones I use most)

Do PM me with his reply - I've got a horrible sort of fascination going on now...

Well ... good for him. Hope it wasn't an April Fool joke on the part of the friend, lol. Gimme a raw egg anytime...
-
Wow! have you ever asked him about why he does it? I felt like the odd one out in this group and couldn't quite summon up the courage to ask questions...

Umm..(sorry for TMI) in this particular context it meant drink at least some of the yellow stuff and otherwise make use of it (i.e.keep it for various purposes), and dispose of the brown solids, not everyone having flushing systems but maybe earth closets or whatever.
-
So glad others feel the same way - I felt a little trapped among aliens earlier, lol
-
I don't know either - I think waste product, flush it. Really weird to talk to people who totally take it for granted - we were talking about something utterly unrelated and then out of this conversation it appeared that three of the group do this all the time and the others were totally unfazed. Just googled and found…

Awesome advice - and I totally agree. There's a virtuous upward spiral. It's still somewhat slippery for me - my life is a liitle like the board game of snakes and ladders, where you climb a ladder (which in real life is rewarding but aslo hard work, getting easier as you go up), with occasional slitherings down an…

I just had a look, and the figures come out about what MFP says. Unlike MFP though it includes your daily activity level; you don't by any chance have, as I do, your MFP level set to sedentary and then add in your exercise separately? I set scooby to sedentary and it it gave me 1535, and then to lightly active which gave…

I don't know the website (curious to have a look tho!) but maybe if you've just found a level that works for you then stick with it?

If it's severe depression then it's a really difficult issue. I know the things that make me feel better; exercise, getting outside, having the house clean, seeing friends, positive activities in the community, cooking, study, writing, reading, watching a film... but then when I'm low I'm unable to actually do them, which…

I should start the exercises now - you might not see the results so much if there's still fat over the muscle, but you will feel the results.
-
You might find that if you ate more you would actually lose more as well as being more healthy - it's always a tricky subject on MFP but lots of people swear by this approach. Search the eat-more-to weigh-less group and have a read. It can't hurt to try seeing as you're not getting the results you want - carrying on the…

Chinese food, sushi, cheese, cider, Sunday roast dinners, Friday night curries, crisps, wine, olive bread, polenta... Counting calories has made me much more aware of what I was consuming - I didn't think I was eating badly compared to lots of people I know, but the evidence stacks up once you start on this path. Plus being…

So much depends on the style and the teacher - best to try classes in both and see what works for you. I'd like to do Pilates but apparently the teacher locally runs it like a bootcamp, which is NOT my style - I'm not in the least competetive. I'm planning to try yoga though.

I aim for min 20g (on about 1500 calories) - this was recommended by a genetics consultant (there's a strong history of bowel cancer in my family). He also recommended getting it from a wide variety of plant foods rather than through supplements, because they're not sure whether it's just the fibre contents in vegetables…

That's pretty much my idea of food hell, LOL. Still, it's a good job we don't all like the same things, or food shortages would be even more rife

Stomach, definitely - and also the area under my arms really bogs me. I never wear sleeveless clothes anymore because I have all this horrible loose fat there.
-
That sounds familiar!
-
Seconded. You ARE amazing and you can get over this.

Mine just grew out - it did take a very long time though. I'd dropped a building block right on the nail bed, which I think slowed things up more than a runner's injury might do.

About 1500-1600. I crave salty snacks and cider...

An ex partner telling me (I was grousing about not being good at anything) that I had a talent for living.

I just blog on sites I'm interested in, and not much at that. I've got a Tumblr account I don't use apart from to follow a few people. Maybe the way to go is google the issues you want to share about and then see which sites have blogging - probably thousands I know!

The swaps you've already made sound like great steps in the right direction. Sounds like it's a mix of confidence and organisation to me. Matbe you could find a simple curry and a simple casserole recipe on one of the sites already mentioned or BBCgoodfood is one I use a lot, and set yourself to learn to cook them, to…

Seems to me that you're more or less on track at 4.5lb loss a month - I'd be happy with that! For retaining more muscle the general advice seems to be to up protein and strength training, so it may be worth a try. But it also sounds like you might be worrying too much about measures which are estimates at best. You're…

My weight's been fairly yoyo - due to lapses. I log gains if they stay on for more than a week, don't bother otherwise because there's often quite a lot of fluctuation.
